  1. Croeso i Bywyd Hela ! Welcome to Hunting Life!
  2. Just knock it on the head and get a .22 Hornet a very neglected ,versatile round.Reloadable to your requirements and your not at the mercy and vagaries of ammunition manufacturers, most of whom haven't a clue of the requirements of British shooters.
  3. Hmm I'm very surprised at that.I wouldn't be satisfied with that reponse and I would contact them again and say your not happy with that responsE.Thats certainly not the view expressed by BASC at the meeting. Is there any special circumstance as to why this condition has been placed on your certificate?
  4. My Ruger had a moderator so very quite with subsonic ammo. Also the 10 round rotary magazine is flush fitting to the stock, doesn't stick out at all
  5. "Apart from the fun element of playing Rambo, I do not see the point of a semi auto rimfire in UK. My own guns hold either 4 or 5 rounds and the rabbits just don't come at me fast enough to need rapid fire !!" Totally disagree with you, one of the best rabbit guns I have had was my Ruger 10-22 ,very compact,10 round rotary magazine.Ideal for use when controlling rabbits from a vehicle, being short and compact, not having to faff with the bolt or constant reloading all the time, which is noisy and can spook the quarry,And yes bloody good fun on the Range!
  6. Well at least one of the posts on SD mentions that the stock was holed, and its obviously possible to get shrapnel injuries even if the barrel doesn't blow.Rather give them a miss until its sorted out. There were 4 or 5 people out of what can only be about thirty at the BASC evening who had experienced these sort of problems and that was only in a relatively small part of Wales!
  7. Have a look at this link http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2009/08/25/why-remington-recalled-the-17-hmr-model-597/
  8. Looks a tidy gun that.Light like the Falconet by the look of it.
  9. I don't think the Country has done well at all.She decimated so many Industries and left so many on the dole,I don't think its ever got over it.Then her banker friends sqaundered hundreds of billions ,which wasn' theirs and they took the bale out from the state! It was the Tories who had us join the Common Market, look where that has got us!
  10. Looks like a chamber problem? If the chamber is slightly oversize the the case will expand too far and split.I remember some Bruno .22lr rifles that came into the country back in the 80's had that problem.
  11. There be a few glasses raised to her passing .She's out of it now,its the people left in the areas she devastated that have to live with her legacy!
  12. Don't know you, but commiserations,I hate funerals.
  13. I've had 3 .22 Magnums a bolt action Marlin, which was rather clunky and basic. Then a Heckler and Koch semi-auto that was a lovely rifle and very useful tool. Then I had a Ruger bolt action , only seemed to like 50 gn Federals though!I only ever used them on Fox when out Rabbit Lamping if I saw one.My "Proper" Fox rifle was a Ruger 22-250 ,which was also my Roe rifle for Scotland trips. That was the best gun for Roe or Fox I have personally owned,The DB'S!Good pics by the way.
  14. If you want to shoot them out of season due to crop damage, you'll have to apply for a license to do so,DEFRA I think.
  15. Yeah, just turned over, the bile was starting to rise again.
  16. I see their laying the "Yellow Brick Road" for Thatcher.Ding Dong,Ding Dong!
  17. Well to my mind at all practical ranges for Fox with a rimfire I would choose the Magnum.Lots of people actually seem to be reverting to that if they don't go the centerfire route, which is more practical for serious Fox control anyway.
  18. I think you have your wires crossed those figures of mine are retained energy not energy loss, the 40 gn 22 wmr has clearly got 25 ft ib of energy more than the 20 gn 17 HMR at 100 yds! What we can conclude from this is that the 40 grain .22 WMR load is the most powerful cartridge out to at least 100 yards, and beyond that adequate data is lacking. I would guess that the 40 grain .22 WMR bullet retains its energy advantage out to at least its maximum point blank range of about 125 yards.
  19. In the land of the Fairies??Stupid comment I live in the LAND OF DRAGONS!, read the post on SD! 40gn .22WMR does out do 17 hmr at 100yds. Energy Velocity is an important factor in calculating kinetic energy, but so is bullet weight. We have already seen that the .17 HMR is by far the faster cartridge, but the .22 WMR shoots a far heavier bullet. Energy is important because it powers bullet expansion and penetration, and is a major factor in killing power. Here is the energy of our comparison loads, in foot-pounds at the muzzle, 50 yards, 100 yards, 150 yards (when available), and 200 yard
