    If the action was colour hardened and had faded there more than likely be traces o fit on the flats of the action when the gun was broken/disassembled,its only cosmetic anyway ,these were very well built guns back in the day.

    50 yards with a well aimed head shot is more than acheivable and up to 100yds no problem if your happy and confident in your rifle.However a .222 or bigger would be better if shooting "Charlie" on a regular basis.

    Any modern shotgun with no more than half choke will do as long as its the correct chamber length for the steel cartridge your using i.e 3 inch or 2 3/4 inch.Baikals are a good cheap option as the bores are factory chromed for hardness and long wear.
