  1. have a look at the section on gaining permission, posts like this just tend to cause problems , we all work hard to get our perms and keep them , not likely to go handing them out to someone on a hunting forum asking fellow hunters
  2. cheers lads and yes tomo i wouldnt live anywhere else ! even though weve had no power for past 4 hours lol
  3. its my weekend of work , the winds blowing, the rains driving and my lamp is charged, the X factor comes on and out i go , juno, my 8 month pup has never been lamping. Theres a part of my perm ive been saving for this night, its high up right at the top of the valley of swaledale , i had a walk round a week ago and decided this would be the venue for her first foray with the lamp, as i drove up the steep track rabbits bobbed in front , but this part is very rough ground, the place we were heading was very well grazed meadow, i parked the car and climbed the wall, it took 5 minutes to convince
  4. an old nick name, a combination of part of my last name and the fact i always had a dog with me !
  5. cheers vin , they just move around the top holes, going in then appearing again a few moments later at a different hole, i know they will get there but its just frustrating that i know the rabbits are there then they start fecking about darting in and out of the nets pulling them down and having a whale of a time ! but not what im wanting of them !
  6. Set of this morning with high hopes, the farm i was going to had a lot of rabbits, id tried to shoot it last season but due to terrain only ever got fleeting glimpses of bunnys and never got more than 1 or 2 but they were there , i knew it ! The spot i headed to was a steep climb, and with ferrets and nets on my back it knocked the pony out of me , i decided to walk round the rough grazing land, the dogs worked there socks of but i needed another couple of dogs up there and most were away with out the dogs even seeing them, after an hour i decided to try the ferrets in a nice little warren id
  7. cheers vin i was thinking along them lines, been a long time since i had ferrets and dont ever remember not having a worker to show them the way , rather than get annoyed i just called it a day, supposed to be going monday so will see how they go then
  8. well it arrived , my first day with no work or family commitments ,gales or torrential rain . First warren was in the farmers garden , well compost heap to be fair, still a lot of nettles and scrub but i cleared best i could and set my nets, the first time out for these ferrets ( podo and kodo) i opted for kodo first, there was 8 holes in total . This was also juno ( my 8 month pup) first foray with ferrets , she watched on in bemusement as i set the nets, kodo went in hesitantly she messed around a little but soon entered the rabbits lair , after about 5 minutes a rabbit hit the nets , excell
  9. cheers lads, shes coming on great totally ignores stock 100% focused on bunnys to the point my mrs wont walk her incase she catches something
  10. ive finally got some time of work to start my season, had a mooch round the spot im going to ferret on friday with the landowner, right in the middle of her sheep and alpacas juno(my 8 month pup) puts up a rabbit courses, catches and retrieves live to hand ,always good for landowners to see things like that , well happy with pup will let you know how we get on , junos first ferreting trip
  11. did parks have russells in the 80s? my first dog when i was a lad was supposedly from him and was 100% machine , i was too young to appreciate him and he was lost to ground, but was a hell of a tough lad .
  12. my border bitch is 10 now and has done everything ive ever wanted , shes a bit slower and steadier than other terriers ive had shes bolted a few foxes from cover but never been encouraged to ive shot over her took her beating , ferreting and general mooching , her temprement is 2nd to none and probably the best wee dog ive ever had

  16. just a couple of pics of my pup in the garden , 6 months now and a good strong bitch , couldntt be happier with her , easy to train and a pleasure to have round the house, recall 100% , this dog seems to know what i want before i do , think we are going to have a good hunting career together
  17. when i was a lad fella who mentored me in dogs used to bring along on occasion an old ladys miniture poodle, it worked in cover with my terriers and nailed a good few rats and rabbits, so id have no doubts the bigger ones are a useful addition to a lurcher
