Hawke map6 scope on s200
HW 96.5 replied to ledders666's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi Ledders From what I gather the map 6 is supposed to work best with 11.5 ftlb in .22 Then the recticle dots give easily remembered 5 yd intervals. With .177 you would use BRC to tell you your distances. See Here... http://www.airgunbuy...p?ID=2496&pic=1 Many people think they need a 9 or 12 x scope but really I use 6x a lot for hunting out to 50 yds. Don't forget a lot of HFT shooters like 6x for the depth of field too. At night lower mag. collects more light as well. so win win. With mil dots at 6x a half mil dot scope to make sense as the there will be less need -
Airgun law walking between permissions
HW 96.5 replied to pmatty77's topic in General Airgun Discussion
One thing to consider. At least around here is we have a poaching problem. Deer, Hares, sheep pheasants etc,so if you are spotted even at 3 Am suspicions can be aroused so easily. Years ago I wandered far and wide with all manner of arms quite freely on my permissions. As there were walkers and equestrian folk it was fun to see their reactions. Shotgun, air rifle, rimmy all generally well recieved bow or crossbow eeek they almost visibly wet themselves. Those were great days for sure. Steve -

Hw 95 Pellet testing 25 and 50 Yards
HW 96.5 replied to HW 96.5's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Cheers Andy I may just take you up on that one sometime as my partners parents are in Halifax. Steve -
No probs mate. just be carefull at the end clicks when counting the extremes don,t force the clicks just count the normal clicks without using force. Steve
-
Shim under the front for shooting high and rear for low. Best to center the clicks on the scope first. Do this by going all the way on the ajuster then count total clicks to full travel. Half the number and set turret to this number. Then your scope will be at center before you shim. Shim at ten yds to within an inch of aim point. Then zero at preferred range. usually 25 yds for a .22 Then you should get the best from the scope. Steve

Hw 95 Pellet testing 25 and 50 Yards
HW 96.5 replied to HW 96.5's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
ocks that's the 2nd time I have got a gun wrong on this forum I would like a 95 in .20 then I could mix and match. Plus have a play with the ballistics and tuning My dream tinkering gun would be a 90 with a full compliment of barrels. Then I could compare cals. and make direct comparisons without stripping it down. Steve -

Hw 95 Pellet testing 25 and 50 Yards
HW 96.5 replied to HW 96.5's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Spot on Scot The gun was tuned by me. I am a born tinkerer. After seeing a pellet staying on top of Si's scope on firing I had to try and achieve it. It took lots of strip down to get it. I still think there is room for improvement. But every time I change something I have to shoot chrono and repeat to verify the results. I found that 11 ft lbs is the sweet spot 11.2 is getting much a harsher firing cycle. I will get there in the end then I can sit back and enjoy the work I put in. Practice on paper is the best way of having the confidence to make the live shot count, plus you ha -
Hw 95 Pellet testing 25 and 50 Yards
HW 96.5 replied to HW 96.5's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Thaks lads it turns out the average size of 50 yd groups was less than 1 1/2" not including the last. so pretty chuffed. Now just need to practice closing those gaps. Steve -
Monday was a very calm day so I took the opportunity to do a little testing with the HW95. The set up was two targets placed at 25 and 50 Yds. The idea was to shoot prone to test 4 different pellets. Pellets used were AA fields, H+N FTT, Acupells and RWS superdomes. The method was to shoot 5 pellets at 25 Yds and then 5 at 50 Yds giving ten shots of each pellet. All the pellets were out of the tin un washed or weighed. The other variable would of course be my ability to stay consistent. The set up The groups @ 25 yds AA Fields 18mm First shot went high and was dis

Spring air rifle shooting.
HW 96.5 replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi mate, Yeah Ive spoke to Soi a few times too. I suppose every one as their own opinions and one man's rubbish is another man's treasure as they say. Dont forget that I asked Tony about the best springer for comp shooting i.e FT or HFT and the HW98 was his answer, for hunting it was a SFS Banshee (original HW95). I think the HW95 is the rifle that Tony can do and get the best results from as I know he rates them very highly as do I after owning 2 or 3 of them in the past. I'm at SFS in a week or so again mate filming and reviewing a new product called Microlon with Tony and th -
Spring air rifle shooting.
HW 96.5 replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
First of all thank's Simon for a great initial post. An inspiration to springer fans of all skill levels. If you fill a book with stuff as well written and as passionate. I for one would want a copy. Secondly it is very interesting Tony would choose a tuned 98 as the best springer on the planet. Some time ago I spoke to Sol and during the conversation about HW95's I suggested selling mine to go for a 97 the answer was the 95 in Sol's opinion is just as accurate. Most of you have seen my 95 in the 98 stock and I have tried various weights in the silencer to achieve the balance of the sh -
Hi Scot Barrel is 16mm on the 95 Steve

It has been a very long time since I stayed out and ate the catch over an open fire. Smoked sqizzer, nice one. Glad you enjoyed the cahange from the 97. Steve
-
Cheers Scot I hope you enjoy the 95 for a change. It's diffferent for sure. Feels very nice with the ajustable fit. Steve

Hw 95's are nice to work on. shoot well too. enjoy

OOPs looks like I got the AA,s crossed. It wasn't even late in the day so can rule out the beer....
-
I have noticed the latest batch of AA fields are more more prone to spiralling down range, usually affecting longer range more than 25 yds. Sometimes we all try too hard and shooting springers has a lot to do with confidence. once confidence is lost I for one just get larger groups untill I chill out a bit. The only other thing I can put forward is has the sound or vibration changed, could mean the internals are ready for a re lube... hope you get it sorted, Steve

Thanks for the nice comments Davy the 97 is about the only full size HW I have not shot at some point but the hw57 was a stormer of a gun. I was weaned on break barrels maybe one day I will try harder to get along with the underlever. The most impressive HW I have shot was a full power HW80 at around 40 lbs it was a right mother to shoot. Power yes but head shots at 45yds would be out of the question. I wanted my little gun back because I could not trust its accuracy. To prove the point I placed 2 used shotgun shells at 45 yds and bet my little 177 could down on in less shots. I let the owne
