  1. The weather is right and the foxes are there so its a case of finding them.... yeah mate, a 6 footer will do me nicely then crack the flask open for a brew and a pork pie!! This digging game cant be beaten.
  2. I bolted a summer fox out of a hollow tree 8 foot from the ground a few seasons ago.... i was starting to doubt the dog and thought he was after a tree rat, i should have known better than to doubt him
  3. The box and collar are on charge, just getting my shit together and sorting through my nets and hopeing for a busy day out tommorow.... lets get some muck on the bank!
  4. The went is a nice little river, the dearne is crawling with mink aswell.... ideal walk out on the summer nights to keep the dogs fit!
  5. Hahaha im not sendin my dogs over by the salmon ladder... the pike are like aligators up by doncitraz!
  6. Yeah when i was still up in durham mink were few and far between, but the river wear is a clean river with a good head of game fish and a fairly healthy otter population... but since moving to yorkshire i bump in2 mink regularly, i think its down to the river don still being heavily contaminated from the steel works, but i do tend to see most on tributarys such as the river e-beck, the went and land drains... great fun!
  7. Due to local flooding i always seem to be at work at the moment... pumping flood water into the river don or 1 of its tributarys, on average im working between 18 and 20 hours a day, so iv decided to take the terriers... and im pleased i did. Being a born and bred fox digging man i have always neglected mink and now i realise iv been missing a trick, today my little uns and me hunted and killed 2 big dog mink, and the hunting was first rate and a great test of the dogs finding ability, and prey drive.... the mink get where dogs cant so if your dog doesnt have the drive to dig on then u migh
  8. The colder the better mate, get out out and try a few earths... if u in an area with plenty of pipes tie the dogs back and and shine a good bright torch down if u see a pair of headlights lookin back at u get a net on!
  9. Badgers tend to have a big kickout of soil or sand, and bedding such as dried grass in the enterence coz billy changes bedding to minimise fleas and ticks, also look for latrines or as us northers call them shit pits.... more often than not hair gets snagged up on stone or roots at the mouth to a hole, and well worn runs directly to the sette.... as far as finding billy in fox earths is concerned, not much u can do about that, iv also found badgers in pipes, bales, rock piles and under an old pumping station.... accidents are sumtimes unavoidable, hope that helps
  10. Sadly its becoming more and more common.... it seems i spend more time backfilling than digging these days. I was out checking a few good spots on permission about 3 seasons back and ended up behind the golf course at wheatley hill, co durham.... this was a cracking 5 hole spot and an absolute banker season after season, on getting to the earth i was f****n annoyed to find a total of 3 digs- non back filled and a dead vixen minus her tail..... i took the time to smarten up the earth before moving on. During this summer i bought a dvd at a gamefair and i couldnt believe my eyes watchin t
  11. How difficult is it to power tune a benjamin discovery, any pointers would help me no end- thanks
  12. At first i thought it was a dog until it came in2 the light, it obviously spends a bit of time in the industrial estate coz he wasnt worried about what i was doing. If the forcast is right and its a cold weekend i might try a few spots i know on sunday morning i reckon!
  13. This year iv got a bitch to start but due to the fact im a self-employed pump engineer and local flooding, work and a lot of the pipes and earths are waterlogged so iv had a frustrating start to the season. But one night while working late in2 the night pumping floodwater in2 the river to prevent toll bar and bentley flooding i noticed a white shape comeing towards me on the bank side between the industrial estate and the river, it walked straight under the temporary floodlights and past the pumping station. It was a good size pure white dog fox. Iv spent my whole life digging, coursing, sho
  14. Well i think il take the plunge and give the b+f a go.... had some good feed back, as well as a few negative reports, but the only real way to judge it is to get a collar on the little fella, and get some muck on the bank- hope u all have a productive season!
  15. Cheers for the input lads... i havent been out for the last 2 seasons since moving from durham to yorkshire..... last dug 2 the peips, and just sold my old grey box 2 a mate, iv got a while til my pup will be ready so il weigh up my options.... thanks!
  16. Iv got a few quid burning a hole in my pocket and need to spend it before the mrs gets her theiving hands on it... fancy upgrading my box and collar so any reviews would be a big help before spendin my hard earned, cheers lads
