  1. Jai, great thread and thanks for the pointer on the Draper fence thing, works really well. Jealous....Would really like geese at some point, can make a very very healthy profit on Turkeys at Christmas (eggs ordered for the incubator this week), imagine a good flock of geese are even better as near enough no feed costs if you've got the grass.......
  2. Yep on smallish plots strip grazing is the way forwards, really easy once they are electric fence trained. My 3 Lleyn ewes are bloody fertile and make good mums, only need to walk them up the lane to a friends handy tup..... Regards Moel
  3. Thanks for the reply, Draper tool on its way from amazon. If you can break even on pigs (or god forbid make a profit) you'll make a fortune with lamb! 20 to 30 acres = a lot of sheep! Regards Moel
  4. Great thread, hope you get the housing issues sorted...... Wonderful to see a neglected patch coming back to productivity. Fine looking pigs. Major progress with that big digger. Best thing we ever did on our little smallholding was get a digger in for a couple of days at the start...... Could I ask, is that a Draper Fence Straining tool in one of your fencing photos, if it is, are they any good? need to do a bit of awkward fencing and the monkey strainers won't work on this bit......and the draper is under £30 on amazon. So whats going on the grass, or are you going to make silage
  5. But some of the 'ordinary' men are just as amazing I had a customer, who has sadly passed away, who once told me about flying fighter cover on the arctic convoys. He would be scrambled and take off in his hurricane from a converted merchant ship with a catapult to defend the convoy. When the fuel ran out landing back on deck wasn't an option so it was down into the water. He ditched in the north Atlantic on 4 occasions. Aged 19. I asked him how he survived, he said "after the first time you made bloody sure you splashed really close to a boat" I asked him how on earth he fitted in
  6. About £1000, which is ridiculous given tbe work involved..... Be really carefull withe tbe backboiler, either make sure it's working fully or take it out, otherwise you risk a large BOOM!
  7. Pete I live in a very similar Welsh building and god it was a damp and dirty sh@thole when we moved in. River sand and lime are much much better for random stone/rubble walls than Portland cement as they let the building breath, is it rendered on the outside and if so what with? I can't tell you how much better our place was when I blasted off the thick peeling non breathable oil based masonary paint some w@nker had coated it in and limewashed it instead, was a different building inside by the time summer had dried it out and has remained dry and damp free. If I were you before

    Amanda Knox

Probably would, but you would be wanting a very robust 'safe word'......
  9. Border or patterdale/border cross Our 2 year old is permanently attached to our border (who is roughly the same age) Great temperament, very loyal (as a builder who tried to move the lads pram without the Mrs say so found out!). Need a firm hand to train as recall isn't to good (very stubborn), great ratter and doesn't go to ground.
  10. Take it back to the old dear whose name and address is on the prescription
  11. Evening Gents Have a problem fox that is causing real mischief with the poultry Anyone got a trap for sale/hire near Mold/Ruthin? Regards Moel
  12. Supersports are great, especially if it is a Brum made one. I've had one since I was 12 (only 20 years or so), totally reliable and mine will be off for another new spring and seals next week. Hope the rest lasts another 20 years of vermin bashing! £100 seems a fair price Moel
  13. Bipods and sprinters don't mix well I'm afraid Regards Moel
  14. Both the Wirral and Runcorn bridge routes are clear (from Cilcain) cant imagine you'll have a problem. Hope who ever you are visiting is doing well. Regards Moel
  15. Great photo Lovely little girl and a cracking dog. My little girl (4yrs old) told her class her proudest moment was when her terrier caught her a rabbit for tea! Regards Moel
