I wouldn't take a 9 week pup out your exposing him to all sorts of nasties, yes some people will come forward and say I did but there are many issues apart from what's the point what will it achieve? I would spend the time in your garden bonding and playing then as soon as both jabs done then take him out.

That's why mine are allowed in the house...Ruby is currently laid against me and Tex is by my feet. Their kennel is just a night time bed / somewhere to go if no one is in during the day Great innit

I know a lot of dogs are kennelled but I have to be honest your missing out on so much, I've been shooting today with my boy we went on rabbits this morn and had 3 and couple of pigeons home for lunch then on the deer, didn't get any home bath the dog I shower, I'm sat on the sofa typing this and he is asleep next to me, with his head on my leg.

I spoke to a guy in a shop and he said there is very little between them and unless im doing 300 yds + its not worth it. I was grateful for that as he could have talked me into a new one.

well done, its all about confidence and voice, your voice is the best or worst tool you have, I can make my dog go crazy tail between his legs tucked up running round in circles going mad or he will sit ears down knowing he has done something wrong and that is all voice. When you make her sit and stay you walk away 10 paces turn and she is still sitting and you walk back and make a big fuss of her she will look forward to that, if she does something wrong and you shout that's when you get the drop to a lay, so as you return to your dog the dog does not know what will happen so on your occasio

To put a video up is quite easy upload to you tube and copy the link under share, it will be something like http://youtu.be/915FdG7qk click on reply then more reply options, in the box type what you want to say then click the switch next to the rubber in far top left corner your txt will look like old typewriter stuff then drop down a couple of lines and click paste, or press ctrl V, or right click paste, whichever you want to do. then click the switch again which will bring you back to your original box, do a quick preview and you should see your video ready to play. Now im sure there are ea

Hi Slipper I did this video a couple of days ago, this is my 2 yr old and although he has the basics I still throw in the occasional whistle to keep him active, as I said before never set your dog up to fail, if you don't think he will sit because he is not concentrating on you then don't blow it, in this video he is working his way back to me so I just blew to see he can still do it. as he matures I will go for the instant sit but you have to allow time for that to sink in. Im pleased with him for a 2 yr old anyway http://youtu.be/W3cbN_sGe5U

Well done they can be so frustrating but are worth sticking with them. Learn internal screaming you will need it

ok then when she lays down put her in the sit position and when she sits praise her and if she lays down again lift her up and just keep doing that, sound like she is a bit shy so be careful keep that high pitched praise and loads of it when she does it right say nothing when she does something wrong, she will soon learn to please

Hi Hily I agree re temperament, I don't know any trainer (and im not a trainer ive had working dogs best part of 35 yrs) who teaches a dog to hunt, we don't teach dogs to hunt we encourage dogs to hunt what we want them too, if you walk into a field with sheep does your dog run after them? no - why? because we have not encouraged them too in fact we growl if they look at sheep. so they switch their noses on to what we want, and training is the same there is a difference in training and playing but playing can lead to bad habits which is ok but we have to get them out of those bad habits.

Im going to edit this to make it simple. A Stop whistle is also a sit whistle but the command means sit and stay, do not try and do this any further than 2 ft away from you until you have mastered it by you. so whenever you are training put the whistle in your mouth, if you don't the dog will read what you will do, Walk the dog on lead on your left close to you using the command heel, and at random on a path, field anywhere say sit and blow once, even if you dog sits to command do this. Make sure you get an instant sit, if you don't get it instant push gently on the bum area don't push down

It is the number of deer, and we do have a lot around here in places, but its getting land is the key what I will say is don't give up, always go out of your way to help farmers and do things, even saying hello goes a long way, stop for a chat if you see them, some farmers rarely go far so a chat is god for them when they are not busy, knock on doors, ask if they like pheasants venison and even if you have to buy it do so and take it round to them. Ive been after one bit of land for 2 years and ive just got it. its about 3 miles of woodland and unshot and full of deer but I have kept at

Hi Guys In reply yes I do take out the white ones, I have to just to keep numbers equal, but they are useful as when they are in woods they give the others away, there is a big white stag and I have watched him many times and about 3 years ago he was caught up in barbed wire and I cut him free, he is in that pic above but as it was taken on my phone you cant see him very well. I do most of the shooting round here but I know there are odd places where others shoot and im hoping they leave him as well. As far as numbers go I try to split up herds as there are a couple where I know there

Well after watching the weather day in day out and getting out for a bit here and there ive not had the busiest season. Ive not done a write up for a while so I thought I would try. Driving down the road past one of the farms I shoot i was due on a certain farm and as i drove to it I always look in the field to the right and have often had a fox for the farmer but on this occasion there were about 20 fallow, having already informed the farmer i was going i left them in favour of the new land i had recently got and was booked into. when i parked i walked down the side of the stream and

I don't mind getting wet, and with a shotgun it's ok but I don't want the rifle to get wet. I am hoping it stops soon but the poor West Country there can't be much wild life surviving that, rabbits will be extinct in that area for a while
-
Don't know about you Rich but I'm well down. I have a wet suit but I'm buggered if I'm going shooting in it, however next week is looking better.
-
Thanks guys, yes he carried on like this for about 20 seconds after I stopped filming and he was working his way left and a rabbit bolted which was perfect for the browning, he came out on the line after hearing the shot and retrieved it to a great fuss.

As I am happy to advise on here I've said a few times there is nothing set in stone to say a dog must be a yr old before you start to train it. I've mentioned on here I'm really proud and pleased how my working cocker has come on. His nose really does work well and he has clicked what the game is all about. Yesterday out rough shooting he showed some enthusiasm in some branches and I grabbed the phone to record it. This carried on for a few more seconds like the footage shows and then a rabbit bolts in a safe area to shoot it so the dog got his reward and brought it back to me. This is in m
