From 5 Shot To 3 Shot Autos
richmcgin replied to open season's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
3 is good 5 is better, i have emptied my 5 on a fox before from about 30 yards and he still ran another 20 yards, true iam a crap shot but if i had only had 3 he may have gone away and died a horrible death, not that being blasted with 5 shots of BB`s in nice!!!!! I also once saw a fox flushed on a shoot, it ran across the guns and they all had a pop at it and i recon half of them hit it, but it still made it off the field. I fully understand that there are those dead eye dick`s that never have a bad day and always kill on the first shot, but some of us are not super hero`s or born snipers a -
Maximum Range Of 22Rimfire On Foxes
richmcgin replied to ferrets88's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
50 yards and closer would be my advice -
Actually i just found a pair of 30mm rings in me shed !!! so 30mm is on the menu again.

I think what you mean is glass bedded, it is to ensure a good fit and eliminate any movement between action and stock. As for how easy it is, well that depends on how good at diy you are, it`s not super hard but you need to be competent. look it up on you tube there is loads of vids on there showing it being done.

funny that cos i had a look at both of them today, the issue i have is that 30mm optiloc rings cost about a million quid

Not sure thats relivent but it will prob go on the 223 for foxing

I am going to traet my self to a new scope soon,The criterior it needs to meet are as follows: I dont do expensive scopes any more as they tend to get abused so it has to be cheap I seem to have devoloped a perversion for twiddling so i want target turrets I am easy on the ret as long as it has some sort of markings for referance I only want a 25mm tube I need good light gathering And I dont intend to shoot much over 300yrds with it so it needs to be good for 400 !!!! Any suggestions????

I have to be honest and say i put hundreds through the 22 before i clean it, but i do clean it at that point i dont do bore snakes very much i do have 2 of them but i dont use them unless i have too. with the center fire i clean it every 20 or so, but if iam testing new loads it gets a good clean before and then every five i will run a brush than a patch through, when iam zeroing i always start with a clean barrel

Is that right Dunc, i thought it was the land owner, and is the law the same over there, is the airgun one that would be classed a firearm here or a normal airgun under 12ftlbs.

I'm A Bit Puzzled. Buckled Brass.

i have had this because my neck sizer was set up wrong. i find that too much lube seems to dent the neck rather than ripple it -
Nice one, and being in the same neck of the woods i know what the weather was like last night so hats of to ya.

Some good points in there. firstly when you have fired 30/50 shots and your group starts to open up it is more likely because the barrel will have heated up and it will hold that much head for a good while, i personally think that this will effect your group more than fouling. your technique seems to be sound i asume your body is not directly behind the rifle but slightly off to one side. you should also pay attention to your breathing either take the shot on a steady exhale or during a short hold, dont spend to much time in the aim, relax and look at the target through the scope for as long

Very much a personal choice but 223 I would normally zero at 150, and the others I would personally zero at 250 or 300 dependent on your usage, personally I dont go for the inch high thing, cant see the value of it. I would zero the 223 at 200 but I find it a pain at that range as I am too fusy about group sizes

Hi dan what rifle was it on, i may be interested. -
If its a berreta it will be ok, i had a 301 for years with out any problem, i have an escort 5 shot at the moment its ok but it does`nt like shorter cart 67mm work fine but anything under and it trys to feed 2 at a time.

Pin a dead rabbit out, and wait for him, dont go chasing after him that can be very bad for both safety and the foxes perception of what is happening, spook him and it may be months before you get another chance at him. I have had dozens like this over the years and i admit i have not solved the problem every time but patients and a couple of dead rabbits normally sees me through.

It's basically a paper excercise. There is no offence for a shooter or RFD where a gun is given to a gunsmith as a S.1 shotgun, sent to the proof house to be certified as restricted to 2+1 and then entered onto an SGC by that same RFD. The only total restriction is with Section 5 firearms where they are always S.5 and cannot be altered to S.1 or S.2, the only way they can be converted to something else is to be totally deactivated. have done this when i sold a 5 shot pump, it was cheep and quick to do.

richmcgin replied to snatchbullet's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Unfortunately my shot gun is a section 1, and none of my friends have that or 223 on their tickets, i do have a friend that is going to have my 22lr for six months though. -

depends how you look at it. for me its another kick in the teeth, for the authority its a safety measure which i understand, but feel it would have been better if i had been able to surrender everything for six months, a revokation means i have to re-apply even though i have been assured that i will get my certs back in the same condition as they went ie open. but i now have the expence of storing the guns for six months.
