Good stuff matey ...several pages back or maybe 50 pages back i can't remember and i'll be fecked if i'm going to look lol,it was when i mentioned a little dog called Ben that lived on beans and toast and house scraps ..Whin jumped in with his views on the matter ..anyways here it is in this picture, the black dog is Nigger bred out of Blue's brother that Hento owned and also the dam which he owned which was a collie/grey x deerhound/grey,Ben the black and tan dog was out of an oven door and a labrador more than likely but the little tyke could kill a bag full of gear ...ATB Andy. Simo exactly the same as me. Feckin grafted all my life and never claimed a penny, now ive mostly worked for my self. I had a real bad accident about eight years ago proper smashed myself up good style, and because i was behind with my national insurance contributions they said i wasn't eligible for anything. I had my house covered by mortgage insurance and had a bit of savings, and i was off for nearly twelve months due to the nature of my injuries and a few operations. Thanks to my family and a kind ex girlfriend at the time i managed to scrape through it, with no help from the benefits agen

An older fella ( well now in is 60,s LOL ) i go lamping with, years ago in the early 90,s. We was going out with the runners and he tells me he had a strange fella knock on the door today. A Russian geezer offering to by his motor a lada riva at the time, so my mate thinks its a joke and tells him to feck off. The rusky only comes back a few days later and offers again for a really good price. So my mate accepts and flogs him the motor and asks in parting why he was so keen for it. And he tells him he was going round buying them up and exporting them back to Russia. Feckin barmy because he li

I assume he'll still have them himself? Somehow i just can't imagine Vic on a computer ..it wouldn't surprise me if he's still running about on the Yamaha with sidecar attached and dog in it? ...best laugh was when he learned to drive,he said i'll be everywhere in now i've got a car and no-one will know me as they all know the motorbike & sidecar?..he only got a feck off bright orange austin allegro and he fell akip at the wheel down South Lakes and ran right over the top of a traffic island so that was the end of that ..ATB Andy. I never went out with vic but did meet him and cha

On the subject of plummers books, to be honest as a young sixteen year old lad back in the day. I loved them and probably back then believed they were true, i wanted to believe Billy Robbins had animals in packing crates up his garden and tom and slade could only sleep to the whir pf the battery charger but as simo said the more you get into it, get decent dogs and start doing a real bit and get older and meet some genuine older hands in the game. You realize it was all a fairy tale, but it did get at lot of us young greenhorns back then into the game. As did the old terrier and lurcher talkab

Catcher i have never caught a pike in my life, am not a fisherman at all. This trouting with the dogs business is just a bit of fun travelling light with telescopic rods, nothing serious about it. The dog loves it, he is soft mouthed on the fish and gently retrieves them back to me. Whats not to like fella, just a bit of fun in the sun mate Cheers Atb

they dont seem marked up / ruined from the pics :hmm: Thanks for the comments mate, i just started him off by teasing him with a dead trout and making him hold one in his mouth and then slowly progressing him to retrieving one thrown for him. Then after that he just took to it and every time we catch a fish he will wade in and grab it and returns it back to hand. Its good fun mate and he is dead steady and just sits behind me waiting for a strike, like i said gives them something to do over the summer and keeps there brains ticking over and they really enjoy it. Cheers Atb

Here,s a couple more pics i took of Hirsty,s pup retrieving trout. The dogs love it and it gives them something to do over summer, and is keeping there brains ticking over and keeping them cool till the season starts. Cheers Atb

Had a couple of hours this morning trouting with my mate Hirsty and the pot lickers, as there is not much else you can do with the mutts in this hot weather. Lady luck was shining down on Hirsty as he seemed to do the most catching LOL. It was Hirsty,s pups first time trouting and after a shaky start he picked it up no problem and was retrieving the fish fine. My collie cross showing him the ropes as a seasoned trouter. Here,s a couple of pics of this morning cheers Atb

As all above have stated a decent little set up there mate, at least you put your hand in your pocket and spent the best coin you could. Over the years i have seen some right shanty town set ups for kennels that wouldn't of kept a rat in let alone my best jukel, so fair play to you fella Atb

I can remember the cumbrian lads i used to go out with mentioned the Shane dog, was Shane a half cross ? If not was there another decent half cross at about that time or a bit later maybe early to mid 90,s Andy that had a well known name for it,s self out west. I seem to remember one cropping up that was talked about but cant for the life of me remember its name. Also Andy what was the best shift you had back then single handed with the old stuff on the coneys ? Cheers Atb
