  1. Political climate in these issues will determine the outcome I am afraid which is a disgrace, too many tree huggers in government lol
  2. Not that I am against shooting pest's I found that on a search of seal shooting in Shetland
  3. YOU MAY HAVE A WEE BIT OF A PROBLEM 8 March, 2007 THE SCOTTISH Executive has agreed to set up a steering group to look at changing the law on protecting the country's seal population. Last week saw a rare meeting of the Scottish Seals Forum with representatives from fishing, aquaculture, scientific and animal welfare communities gathering to discuss the 1970 Conservation of Seals Act. The Act was drawn up to protect Scotland's grey and common seals, who represent around 90 per cent of the UK population of both species. Last year the Sea Mammal Research Unit discovered that co
  4. If foxes are the only quarry why opt for a calibre that is going to cost lots of money. If I were you I wouldn't look past the 22-250 call me old fationed but accuracy is paramount when it comes to firearms. I also have a mate who swears by the .223 but I am old fationed and like the .22-250 accurate and legal for roe in Scotland. With practice you can put every bullet in the same hole believe me I have one
  5. I agree with basil 100%! The younger shooters should be encouraged My advice is to stick in there and apply for your FAC the FAO will give you all the advice on the criteria set by his superior's. I have added a link for a short course on firearms from BASC and not too expensive http://www.basc.org.uk/content/firearms_awareness_course
  6. Liam I don't get it why do you want a larger calibre such as the .243 or 22-250??? for hairs It also doesn't matter how long you have had your ticket either if you can prove good cause you will be granted the rifle you need. I don't think you will be granted such a large calibre for hairs though you would be better going for .17hmr,.22 mag for hairs or even .222 which is a legal calibre for Roe Deer in Scotland if the need arises.
  7. He did say he is going out with a non FAC holder so I took it to be, he has no experience of Firearms and only experience with air guns, which is a hell of difference to a firearm Sorry for the mix up but my Firearms department wouldn't issue a FAC without the applicant showing he had been responsible enough to gain the proper training whether it be from an informal source,BASC,DSC or equivalent. There does seem to be a hell of a difference between police forces and in England the process can take in excess of 6 months.I have dealt with police forces throughout the UK as I run syndicates in S
  8. The boy seems to have no or little experience with Firearms and one definate way to gain experience and safety training is to sit the DSC or go on a BASC training course. He asked for advice on how to make the firearms application easier thats why I said the DSC1 but he definately needs some training prior to being granted a FAC
  9. You have to be 14 years old before you can be granted a firearms certificate and must prove to the police that you have a good reason for possessing the firearm you wish to use, ie. a rifle. You will also have to show that you have somewhere suitable to use it. However, there is no minimum age for a shotgun certificate, though you are not allowed to use a shotgun without an adult supervisor until you are 15 years old. You do not have to show that you have somewhere to use the gun or that you are a member of a shooting club. The police can only refuse to grant a certificate if they think you
  10. How does this price compare to the rest?? basil. Its about 50 quid a year for BASC
  11. Why don't you join the SGA its the cheapest you'll get and you'll have 5 million pound liability insurance for 25 quid a year
  12. all you need is a old 2 stroke engine exstend the exhaust and away you go try the key word serch at the bottom of the topic and type in smoker ill try post pic s of mine tomorow mate I use my patterdale for the ratting and if you go up during the day you can almost guarantee they will be tucked up in their burrows.Like gone bush has suggested I would use a smoker or 2 stroke petrol engine with a wee drop of mineral oil in the petrol to help it smoke. You can use any old 2stroke but I prefer something with a handle on it like an old strimmer or chain saw easily adapted with an hour and
  13. Never witnessed Patterdales in Ireland but have witnessed them in the Midlands,County Durham and Scotland. For a wee dog it has some heart and couldn't find an ounce of difference, they are all born hunting dogs that will go all day long and want some more the next morning.I was down in Derby a few weeks ago and a wee bitch ripped the ligiments in her right front leg and she kept going all day long,we thought she had just cut her pad as she wouldn't put any weight on it but a day later she was taken to the vet as it didn't seem to be healing and my mate was told she had ripped her ligiments an
  14. Its quite normal to have her teats swelled as she is still very young and her hormones are all over the place. If you are worried about it the vet can disperse the milk by giving her an injection, my patterdale bitch has to get this done after every season as she doesn't or can't disperse the milk herself.
