  1. interesting thread, with some very constructive advice, joy to read an' i'll be applying some of this to my own cocker training, doing ok but always good to learn new things.
  2. anyone recording this? available on disc?
  3. sounds great, pity i dont have SKY
  4. ive watched lislet and edward martin, and would agree however i enjoyed watching the EM DVD and would quite happily watch his cockers dvd. entertainment as well as instructional
  5. I'm after that too, not heard of anyone with it yet but have hopes.
  6. in my experience on gun dog forums calling trialing dogs robot dogs generally signals a barrage of counter arguments, i generally stay clear of that debate, hence ducking for cover but maybe its not going to over here.
  7. :hmm: ducks for cover........................
  8. FTW Otterbridge Eagle too i feel once there's a couple of ftch chocolates entering the stud world the stigma attached to them will perhaps fade a little. sadly the popularity of pet chocs has pretty much damned them before they've begun
  9. there was a chocolate in the championship couple of years ago. there are a few out their being trialed, but to be fair blacks dominate the lab world [the rise of the fox red might alter that] they dominate the trials world and thus the stud, plus black is also a dominate gene so dogs carrying chocolate and black genes are generally going to throw black pups. colour is not really that important, but it can be a self fulfilling prophecy. the best dogs are black therefore i best get a black dog.........
  10. good luck, mines coming up to nine.. poser... older and greyer at the marsh sorry a bit photo heavy.
  11. thanks, we've only just started on jumping will mix and match as we progress. where he'll be working there's a lot of five foot walls so he needs to learn to scrabble up them as well as clearing fences.
  12. sired by Timsgarry Valtos out of a bitch from Cheshire, sired by Argyll Warrior. Chyknell Goldstar in there on the dams side too agree Eddie, but he's a year old at the end of the month, i'm cautious with him, and a few trainers ive spoken to suggested at this stage he should be ok. just started this week but always wary of such things.
  13. At the minute Berens focussing on the STOP whistle, left and right, plus jumping. so a few photos of the latter as the others whilst vital are a bit dull to photograph
  14. almost any dog has the potential to fight an' attack another dog. the issue with labs is there's so many of them, 1000s of pups regd with the KC every year plus non-regd that there's bound to be a few nutters in there, plus the daft Andrex puppy ads give people the wrong idea. NOT all labs are lovely cuddly little things. however, any breed can be a bit aggressive, my own lab nearly 9 was set upon by a setter [mine on the lead] a month ago. young setter bounds up tries to hump the old lad next minute few handbags with teeth, ends up with me forking out 90 quid getting my dogs ear sorted. the s
  15. Bought my DVDs very pleased with the quality, speed and the communication from seller. would happily deal again, big thumbs up!

  16. commands can be anything you choose, typical verbal recall would be *name* here, whistle couple of quick blasts in rapid succession.
  17. CKS bred to be lap dogs, seen some rough and ready ones that are great for a stroll with the family BUT if you're looking at something to hunt and use its nose afraid its a cocker every time, like comparing an afghan with a lurcher
  18. nah there'll be a mix of choc, yellow, possibly black pups. depends on what colour genes the dogs carry. if the yellow is yellow/choc and the bitch choc/choc ..it'll be yellow and choc pups, its all down to recessive and dominant genes. VERY unlikely you'll get mismarked pups.
  19. sympathise, am there at the minute with my 10 month old, we make progress stall, rethink then go forward again. but many times ive come home bashed my head with a brick and ranted "i should have stuck with labs"
  20. the WWA [ http://www.westmorla...ociation.co.uk/ ] opted to have their test on Sunday, as a new member on my debut season figured i best support the fund raiser so we went there and watched a variety of gundogs, talked dogs guns etc and had a few beers. Obviously i snapped a few photo too.... bit photo heavy sorry. as you can see its a springer lab fest, altho their was a golden what looked like a chessieXlab and a plucky cocker. black lab clean sweep [1-3 +junior] at the end but good attenance about 40 dogs and a nice day out in the lakes there are worse places to spend the day
  21. improve recall with treats, then stimulate the dog as suggested with dummies or something, get the dog thinking. if its been hunting and catching game training her to work effectively as a gun dog will be quite tricky. however she can still be a fun well behaved family dog, just get her brain going through stimulation and work on the recall.
  22. i used treats on the recall and sit, but not with retrieving. slowly phased them out and now at 8 months continue as before but without treats just praise alone. as i was advised whatever works use it.
  23. work on the recall, then find some kind of narrow passage way send him for his retrieves up there so his options are limited and encourage him to come straight to you, keep that up for a few weeks with no retrieves but the "retrieving lane" then move on to down the side of a fence before moving out into open ground. just short stuff doesnt need to be huge distances and see how he goes.
