No free foreshore fowling in England and believe its the same in Wales, all marshes either privately or club owned. so its membership fees IF you can find a club with vacancies. membership of BASC allows you to book day tickets on select club marshes for a fee. North of the border its free access to marshes, but not sure how it works up there beyond that.

Getting a Springer to hunt, long story.
barraboy replied to kermitpwee's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers

As far as i'm aware it a simple opperation and not a major one..i have had two bitches spayed over the year's..one had produced a litter of pup's the other had not..both where spayed easily with no problem's at all.. My lab was back to herself within a fortnight. As you say not a major op just routine ive always viewed any op where the dogs anesthetised as risky but maybe i'm over cautious. your both probably right and again im being over cautious.

fed right exercised well no reason why any of that should happen, my mates bitch developed a slight heart murmur at 13mths so was spayed [accidental litters could have done for her] she a nice fit bitch but he watches her. however its a pretty major op so i wouldn't unless i had too.

ah well cant please everyone, no doubt while jim was sat typing away at his computer this summer. me an the boy have spent out time helping the club construct and site nest boxes on the marsh reserve, clear out flashes to improve habitat on the reserves, and if its a really harsh winter will also participate in the clubs reserve feeding programme. ah well i forget all wildfowling clubs are interested in is killing stuff. and i hope he grows up to be an animal lover too like most shooters i know. banned i know but still felt a need to reply oh one last thing: i think there's a degre

i'm thinking of getting to the foreshore with my lad [he's 7] early in the season before proper fowling weather comes in to keep him keen. so looking forward to getting out on either 1st or maybe 2nd. altho later in the season and the cries of wink wink is when i really get fowling fever.

rough shooting with a terrier
barraboy replied to stihlkid's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
dont see why not seen plenty of terriers in the beating line, my own would retrieve nicely to hand, just had problems getting him to stop. but thats down to me i never trained him as a gun dog. -
my little lad is learning to shoot with his single barrel .410. he's on easy clays at the minute but first outing today on a slow incomer and he smashed them for fun even with a mighty 12.5 g cart. so yes you can shoot clays with a .410

Getting a Springer to hunt, long story.
barraboy replied to kermitpwee's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
i think it could be a combination of sticky and need for game or game scent. my mates commando ESS attacks hunting like a demon on a bowling green let alone cover, my cocker is less enthused until i get him on scent, ive heard cockers can be a little like this. he'll hunt off scent but without the passion you see in an ESS. could be your sprocker has taken this cocker quirk plus over steadying. just a few thoughts i had. good luck hope you stick with him, time will sort him. -
toby63 its malmos just off the A6 so probably the same one

finished was on about 10 days ago

well the deed is done another Baikal in the cabinet bought Tom a single barreled .410 [baikal .410 IZH-18M-M if you want full googling details] gunsmith away on holiday so although its home it'll be going away soon to have the stock chopped to fit. Was quite funny up at Malmos as he was very particular about just which one he wanted...thanks to all at Malmos, one very happy boy! Once the stock is chopped to fit we should be heading towards the clays shortly after. A fun summer ahead....and then we'll see how he's shooting come the season. [Toms 7 next week by the way ]

ditto, about three years too early for me

the bog roll adverts did labs no favours in my view, they are a powerful dog and if you dont get a grip on them early they'll drag you all over on the lead. not all labs are the friendliest dogs in the world that folks assume. my mate has a GSD thats a right softy there's another lad with a black lab that's not keen on strangers touching in her yet if you asked people which they'd prefer to stroke i reckon 90% would chose the lab. i'd say if the lab cannot be sorted by a pro and they are unable to follow his advice then they have very little option, a 70lb dog is a dangerous thing if its not r

colour doesnt bother me, but if you do have a preference you might as well stick with it and get the dog of your choice as its going to be with you for a decade or more

nowt wrong with the black an' tans

agree with Stroller, Openshaw suggests you should always walk your dog in a zig zag pattern, as for sorting its pattern you could try encouraging it with your hands trying to direct it to left and right. once it runs past you turn and encourage it the other way. throw stuff to left and right as you go keep it in close and see how things progress, can be tricky but once a spaniel clicks [assuming its a spaniel] they seem pretty keen might take longer with another breed, hope all goes ok.
