  4. Hi, I have two terriers 1, A 4 year old Patterdale, sound, no bother whatsoever,The second a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier, his problem is that although generally housetrained, his is inclined to piss in other parts of the house,on curtains, cupboards, kids beds, etc.these come in short bursts as if he was marking a territory so to speak, Would neutering this dog(I don't intend to breed from him)sort this problem out? What are your general thoughts on neutering,I understand that it reduces aggression traits, which this dog is showing. Thanks Netfull. Mant

  9. While we're on the subject can anyone define the rabbit breeding season,in the case of the ferret, producing hormones is it brought about by hours of daylight?or as some say the cold weather,
  10. Yep its happening to me too,dug 5 out earlier on in the week, making the use of nets irrelevant,as ferret 110 says it's probably down to breeding, guess the season is on the back foot now, an old hand told me once that it will be mostly Does that occupy the burrows at this time. Netfull.
  11. Hi Shaun. Can you give us Europeans an idea why on earth you get up at 3am!!!!I regard my self as an early riser 06.30 am ish,is it due to the fact that there are hundreds of miles of driving to be done before you reach your quarry,or then again does the heat of the day have some bearing on this? Regards Netfull.

  14. Hi, Just sorting out my Purse nets prior to a day out this week sometime,I learned some very valuble facts from an old hand a few years back(see the thread on bolting rabbits)one of these facts was the use of Elerberry as a net peg,I scoffed at his suggestion,as a lad playing in the woods I thought it was pretty useless stuff bieng hollow and very weak, even the berries tasted awfull,That was were he told me I was wrong,he advised me to cut a thick limb of Elderberry during the summer months, about 6" diameter and between 6-8" long strip off the bark and with a small axe gradually cut the bloc
  15. Mixi has all but wiped out the Rabbit population here in the North Wales/Cheshire border area, never known it so bad,is there some national group/society/board/association to give an overall picture of the outbreak? I'm aware of how it's spread but why/how was this outbreak so bad? Netfull.
  16. Hi, I've got permission on the Cheshire,North Wales Border, your'e more than welcome to come with me,I'd love to work with a harris Hawk again, you are quite right about the mixy it's devastated this area, there are some isolated areas that haven't been affected, one area in particicular will be Ideal to fly the bird on,I also have a patterdale,a dog and a J.R.T please p.m. me for more info.
  17. Evening bunny busters, Ferreted a spot on Monday that bordered a high voltage sub station (the open air type)usually working in the vacinity of electric pylons I just get a single buzz on the locater, pulsing evey few seconds or so,which I put down to high voltage interference, this I've got use to,but the substation on the other hand the locater emitts a loud continous buzz, luckily the ferret surfaced without the need to locate him which was made impossible by this buzzing, just a thought...Is the mark 3 locater any better in such cicumstances? Yes I guess I should of tried the locater first

  20. Hi Brimmer, Excellent post and some great photo's,I've justed entered a post "The voice of experience"and in it I Question how anyone can ferret without a dog? with your experience and in my case also, a dog complements the team and becomes a vital team member,no more putting nets on empty warrens! Netfull.
  21. Evening all, Unable to handle this period of ildlenees due to the widespread outbreak of mixi here in the Cheshire/Flintshire area, I decided to get off the subs bench and to have a crack at a area that normaly would be bursting with coney but because of the layout of a warren overgrown with thick blackthorn and gorse I usually give it a miss,In times of Mixamotosis no matter how widespread, there will always be a resiliant number of rabbits who, either escape infection or contract it and recover from the ravages of it,to become the breeding stock after the outbreak, My favourite spots of the
  22. I'm sick to death trying to calm my nervous terriers(1 Patt and 1 J.R.T.)for 3 nights now we've had fireworks making thier(and my) life a misery, My dogs work with ferrets and have no experience of shotguns, which, probably if introduced to at an early age, they would have become acustumed to,The 5th Nov. ok I can handle that and make plans to keep them quiet, but DURING daylight hours when out exercising the dogs some idiots spooked them with fireworks, off the dogs shot in absolute dread. As I type this thread out, both dogs are cowering beneath me, Perhaps you have had the same experience
