  2. http://www.ianhodgefieldsports.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=128 £160... very fast delivery and customer service is good its where i got my last collar from and will use them again as i cant find anywhere cheaper tbh
  3. yea mate they really do go mad for it.. like i say,, the misses picked up in a moment of rare kidness, i actually used it to settle them in the box today while i was cleaning the hutch out.. definatly a nice distraction for them ha. and yea ive noticed they go straight to water afterwards.. maybes its a bit claggy in there mouth.. either way i would never use it as a replacement for rabbits.. defintly a nice treat/distraction/calmer though! sorry Ideation i couldnt answer that question but i very much doubt it.
  4. getting A fistful of ferrets He’s out ratting – Ratting With Terriers Pro Rabbit Control with Colin Hemmingway The Ferretman Gone Rabbiting – Simon Whitehead Pakefield Ferrets off a lad on here just to start me off, will look into the others mentioned later on thanks guys
  5. Just wondering whos going to Raby Castle show 9th and 10th of july.. i havnt gotten a leaflet this time not sure if anything different from last year will be there but last year was a pretty decent day out.
  6. My misses went to pets at home the other day and got some Vitamin Treat Paste for Ferrets by Beapher.. basicly its got 2 colours in the tube that come out together.. one gives all the vitamins and minerals including taurine (w/e that is??) and the other helps the ferrets digestive system and stops them getting dodgy guts.. dont know if it works tbh but my ferrets LOVE it, i put small bit on me finger the other day and ive never seen them sit so still.. on me leg just licking away. whats your thoughts on this stuff.. does it actually do the ferret any good or is it just a nice treat for
  7. SMKs are known to be shit ... and ALOT of people will tell you they are.. HOWEVER.. IF you know about air rifles.. how they come apart how they work how to put them back together etc. you can make them on par with alot of decent air rifles... my dad has a laith in his shed and SMKs from the factory are shocking.. but he turns down some of the insides.. cleans them up. takes off all the little bits of metal shavings that they leave in. he even puts new hammers in them etc and they will easily hit 10-11ft pounds (pellet depending also obviously).. however if you dont know how to do any
  8. bit far for you to travel i would imagine but theres a tool jumble type sale at Rufforth(sp?) york 1st saterday of every month.. does alot of car and bike stuff... its like a mans car boot tool sale.. but there is a stall that sells metal mesh all different thickness's and sizes.. might be worth seeing if something like that happens near you theres alot of handy gear at them... next one is 2nd of July (my birthday! ) .. like i say its probably too far for you to travel and not worth the pennys in fuel though
  9. when i got my ferrets they bit me quit a bit but i never put them down until they stopped biting.. it didnt hurt much anyways but i think once they clicked on that bitting = they get naff all they stopped...i used the gagging trick on the dog like so it definatly works .. but for the ferrets like i say.. kinda just showed i wasnt bothered they just mouth me now.. never actually chomped down on me.
  10. Coney Catcher 1,2,and 3 with Phil Lloyd are really good the rest of whiteheads stuff is ok, and a fist full of ferrets, proffesional rabbit control part 1 and proffesional rabbit control part 2 - a few ferrets more, thou that james bradley is an annoying twat. Im with you on that one James Bradley he as got to much of a big head for my liking lol i just woke up so when i red that i thought "his head must be massive if its so big to annoy people" then i clicked on thanks for the DVD reccomendations.. some of them are expensive o.0 cheers lads
  11. why dont you just make it easy for yourself.. get 2 hobs.. wait till there about a year old.. castrate them.. £31- £40 each.. get at least season of working and learning about the animal before you get more.... thats the easiest cheapest new person friendly hassle free option...
  12. lol gets right on my wick me dad, weather were shooting or ferreting.. his phone is going.. granted we own our own business but on a weekend let it go on silent at least! haha.. took a mate shooting told him to hold a area whilest i went round the other field.. i walk back hes sat there with one of our guns.. having a tab texting ><.. wish mobiles wernt invented sometimes. I DO take mine but only in case of emergancy.. its on silent and i dont check it till i get back in the van.. i take my camra though i cant tell the time so no need for a watch.
  13. ive watched a DVD with Simon Whitehead and 2 other blokes in it that was pretty fun.. since im out of action atm i would love to know what DVDs you guys recommend for ferreting. i did a search but the posts i scanned through were so long ago i wasnt sure if theres any newer or better ones out there thanks!
  14. ive just rang Seaham vets mate.. there doing a special offer on ferret castration for £31 instead of £41.. until december not gonne get better than that round this area really mate.. durham charging £71 for castration.. didnt try south hetton cos there always expensive
  15. yea i could do that.. i just figured get the vasectomy i wont have to rely on other people as i get sick of being let down... i guess i could attatch all 3 hutches together in that case too.. but me mates got some kits and i was just gonna grab 2 of his jills tbh.. hmm they defintly work as well though yea? cos my 2 hobs are good workers i wouldnt want to loose that
  16. wow i just rang up a couple of vets i use ... Seahma/roker doesnt do a Vasectemy.. South hetton tried to tell me almost £200.. i just laughed (they just had us out of £900 for operation on the misses dog) and Durham the woman said as an estimate it would be around £100 but they dont charge for antibiotics on a ferret so it would be less than £100.. those prices cant be right?
  17. me mate uses a beddlingtons for ferreting and ive never seen nout like it.. the mother of the 2 wont budge from a hole if theres somethign in it and shes lightning quick to grab the rabbit.. she just pins it down till' he gets to it, she totally ignores the ferrets. he has to keep her sepearate from other dogs though as shes a bit mental.. been knocked over.. scars all over off god knows what (beddlingtons get black fur where theres a scar apparantly..lost her tail the lot but what a dog.. she just never gives up! The younger of hers is getting there now too, never seen her wrong on mark and
  18. as some of you know i have a problem with fighting brothers .. so ive split them up.. now i know ferrets are social animals and get lonley so i wondered about getting them a jill each and just giving the hobs the snip.. however i have a few questions atm one hob is in a 4ft x 2ft hutch with a 1ft ledge where he eats.. the other i have 2 3ft x 1.5ft rabbit hutches attached by a small bent boxing i made so he can run through the 2.. he uses one to eat and the other to play and sleep.. now would these 2 be big enough for another ferret each? i dont have the space to make anything bigger unt
  19. lol ive got loads of time im on the sick .. and my job is DIY pretty much (ceramic tiler/plasterer) .. thanks for the ideas.. i like the sandpit idea gives them somewhere to dig i guess
  20. im kind of in the same boat here .. i have a 3yr old patterdale terrier, ive been getting tips of Ideation on how to get him to mark holes for my ferrets. once ive got him sorted with that ill move onto other things but im worried 3yr old is a bit old as everyone i see on here starts working there dogs from pup... least hes really obediont
  21. ive been wanting to make a place for me ferrets to play and excoricse whilest there not working and while its hot there not stuck in the shed.. also so they socilize with each other since there currently in seperate hutches cos' they fight in closed space.. my plan is.. 5ft long, 2ft wide, 3ft tall.. a door on the top and 1.5ft of some kind of shade where i can put a bowl of water (or a bottle since they tip the bowls over).. base will be concrete slabs as we have stones outside and they will easy dig there way out of that.. it will be made from 4x2 so its nice n strong. there will be tube
  22. LOL my GF names my ferrets.. but lukily she hasnt gotten attatched to them.. however weve got a baby girl on the way and i am worried that things will be a bit different with her lol (hopefully i can toughen her up and get myself a young hunting buddy ) i cant remember what shes called them tbh lol
  23. ok thanks Ideation.. yea we have the work i have 4 farms..and there all riddled with ferrets.. plus one has pheasents on and im sick of getting s*** off the phesent men when im shooting (air rifle) on that farm (i dont touch there phesents but they just dont like me as i am the only person aloud other than there syndicate) so id rather have the ferrets there when their season starts.. and yea i want to breed them myself i want to get involved in the whole thing it really interests me. but you have gave me a bit more to think about thanks! also im glad they wont fight as much later in t
