Hi All Just wondering if any of you can give me any advice on how to stop my dogs fighting. I have a Staff which is about 2.5 years old and a beddy, grey x whippet which is 18 months, ive had them both from pups, they both live indoors and they have always got along great. The problem started a couple of weeks ago, they was both in season and we were playing about in the back garden with my daughter in the snow, when all of a sudden it kicked off and they were tearing chunks out of each other. I got them apart but they were still trying to get at each other, and only calmed down after a while

keep mine indoors, then i know they wont get nicked. Neil.

Sorry to hear about your loss mate. Its reading threads like this that makes this forum worthwhile, i hadnt even thought of something like this happening. Lamping can be dangerous at times. Neil.

I feed whole dead rabbits for a while before taking them out for the 1st time, thats usually enough to get them started

I have got pretty much the same outlook as you mate, and i picked a Beddy, Greyx Whippet. I got her at 8 weeks old, and now she is just a year old. I am more than pleased with her. She is only 21 tts but i think thats a good size for rabbits, Good luck with what you choose. Neil.

I went to acountry park at the weekend for a mooch, used to go there all the time and there used to be rabbits everywhere, i was gutted, nowhere near the amount that there once was. Just kept bumping into deer all the time. Must of seen 300, i was watching the bucks fighting, they didnt even take much notice of me standing there watching them. Had to keep putting the dogs on the lead. Gave up in the end, Lol.

Cheers lads, Its more daytime really, if i'm lamping, i can just move the lamp away, or switch it off, its just the barking and yelping that was worrying me, as i said she doesnt do it at the moment while she is chasing, but i dont want her to start. I think i will just try harder to not let her see them, and the ferrets will be coming out soon so hopefully she will have a few more then, and then i can stop worrying lol.

Cheers mate, i did try this but they just dive straight into the bush and go to ground, she is quick but i mean the ones that are just too far off. No dog would be able to catch them.

Hi all, I was wondering if you could give me a bit of advice. I have a Beddy, Grey x Whippet bitch that is now a year old. Now i have just started working her properly and so far she is doing well, she has caught a couple of rabbits (which is all i am planning to use her for) and after reading other threads on here the advice seems to be not to give her hard slips, which makes sense but if i see rabbits that are to far off and near cover i put her on the lead to stop her chasing them. The problem is, when she spots them she goes mad, pulling and yapping because i wont let her go. She is sile

No mate, there isn't any bones in the stuff i got, it is just like a regular dog complete food, but he thinks its the best stuff you can feed (well he would i suppose) I was looking on their website (of the same name) and they do a treat which they call sea jerky, this seems to be dried cod skin and has hardly any calories and is 85% protein. ATB. Neil.

Got talking to a guy on a stall at a dog show today and he works for this company. I told him i feed my dogs raw in the evenings but was looking for a complete food for them in the mornings. This food is full of omega 3 oils and no maize or wheat or bulking agents, it is 26% protein, looks like good stuff. He talked me into buying a bag lol, and i will try it out in the morning, they have tried a handfull and seem to like it. Just wondering if any of you have tried this and what do you think of it. He also sells dried sprats and other dried fish, will probably give these a go in the future. AT

I once had a dog that i could call off quarry mid chase, i never trained her to do it, she just did. I found out that she did when one day a course started to edge close to a road and i panicked. She was a fantastic dog and i never needed to question her commitment, she was only ever used on rabbits though. Opened up a few more oppertunities for me as well, as i could get on land, catch a few rabbits and disapear sharpish

Thats one impressive fish in your avatar mate....did your bull x catch it Yes mate, ive got loads of them That was caught by my pup, only 12 weeks and caught it single handed and brought back live to hand

Is there a secret competition going on to see how many different ways we can bring up the subject of bull crosses that i dont know about?
-
Yes mate, i know your right and yes i have caught them on pellets myself tbh. They are scavengers as well as predators by nature, but i have always considered myself as a predator angler, and i prefer to catch them using live or deadbaits. Its just that ive heard people saying that they will now only take pellets out there, and that dont seem right some how. I think fair play to the lads that go off on their own and find their own fish. Thats what i would do if i ever went there. I personally think thats more of an achievement than letting a guide tow out your baits on a boat and dropping it

Didnt want to come across as some sort of snob, just trying to pass on what ive heard, have heard it described as a circus out there now. It is a shame mate, what a holiday that could be, laying in the sun with a few beers and the chance of a fish like that. Yes mate, my pride and joy that fish, spent a year unemployed and had three fifties two sixties and that 76lb fish from a lake in Essex. They were English fish, the biggest went in a few years earlier at 20lb so i was told. Came out the following year at over 80lb. Would love to go back but i have to go to work now and they decided to

Yes mate, there are some cracking fish in that river, and it was a dream of mine to go and fish it a few years back. But ive heard some horror stories from people that have been out there. Apparently there are hundreds of guides there now, all claiming that a particular stretch is "theirs" because they go out in a boat every afternoon tipping in sackfuls of halibut pellet, and it kicks off if you decide to fish any where near one of these areas. The cats have turned into halibut hoovers and wont take a livebait or deadbait, which in turn has put off most of the purist "predator" fisherman. I'm

September can be the best month of all mate, I reckon they have a big feed up before they go dormant through the winter. Many believe as long as the water temp is above 10 degrees, they will feed. They can be caught all year round but its very hit and miss and this tends to be more on overstocked waters. ATB.

Looks like a nice dog you got there mate, is she steady round ferrets? That would be a good start, and welcome.

Hello mate, I'm going through a similar thing at the moment, my dog is only 9 months though and ive just got myself two jill kits. The advice ive been given is just keep handling the ferrets and allow the dog to sniff them, as soon as his ears go up or his eyes widen tell him NO and push him back, ive been allowing them to sniff each other through the hutch. I was cleaning out the ferrets this morning and they were playing in the hutch while i was cleaning it, the dog was there next to me, then somehow they were face to face, i got the dogs attention and started praising her and playing with

Well done mate, my bitch is 9 months now and ive just started taking her out for an hour here and there, she is doing ok although she hasnt had one yet. she is beddy/grey x whippet and 21tts. Nice to see a dog of similar age catching ATB with her. Neil.

Thats a nice dog you got there mate, just the sort of dog i would like next. Good luck with him. ATB. Neil.

is there any body who gives ther ferrets?
neilnbeanie replied to lampingkid's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
When i last kept ferrets back in the early 's, there seemed to be two schools of thought, some believed that if you fed your ferrets bread and milk, then they were less likely to kill underground and lay up, because they wasn't used to eating meat. Others believed it would make them more likely to kill and lay up as they would be craving the vitamins that were lacking in their diet. I went with the second idea because it seemed more sensible to me, although i did it occaisionally in an emergency if i ran out of meat. That was in the days when there was no such thing as dried ferret food so tha -
It can be done quite easily mate, just push a small piece of elastic band on the hook after hooking the worm, holds it on nicely Lots of people do think that barbed hooks are better because if you are hooked up to a big fish and the fight goes on for a while, barbless can come out and then rehook itself so some fish can end up with mutiple holes in their mouth. Personally i use barbed and crush it down with a pair of pliers, i think this gives the best of both worlds, Neil.

I was in a local pet shop today just browsing, killing a bit of time and i noticed they were selling dried meat for dogs. You can buy it by the kilo so i bought some to try the dogs on. I used it while training today as a treat and they seem to love it, so i was thinking of adding some to their dried food that they have for breakfast, (i feed raw as main meal in evenings) My question is, do any of you know if this food is any good for them, i'm assuming it is still full of protein. ATB. Neil.
