Wanted Wanted: Geese/ducks Scottish Borders
BORDERSCOT replied to BORDERSCOT's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
Well if you're not a novice I'd think you ought to know better than even consider a pup from a long line of untried & untested nonworkers....... like i said if nothing to say positive best to say nothing. How the f**k did the subject of Hancock dogs get onto a thread about me wanting ducks or/and geese???? -
Here's mines out of Alex - he'll be 2 at the end of the month...has done all I've asked of him and more... He wasn't an easy pup to work with and he certainly wouldn't have been a first time dog!!! He'da broke your heart and turned you to drink... He's my fourth Hancock and I'm really excited about the future...by far and away the cleverest dog I have worked with, has a phenomenal nose, loves to please, athletic, brave with prey drive to spare...very happy with him... Take care - Colin.

Been stopped for 10 years this November - after a really bad scare when I was in my mid-thirties - went to smoking cessation clinic at local health centre - and went from 60 a day to patches overnight...first fortnight was a piece of piss but the next month was a nightmare and never had one since!!! Sometimes miss it and to be honest if I could smoke 10 a day I would probably start again but the ten would become twenty and then thirty...and so on...feel better for not smoking though...

I agree 100% - I have no preference...however, merle dogs are distinctive and stand out...this can both be a good and a bad thing!!!

Looking good

still got the receipts for the ones i had 1987 £ and 1989 £92. You must be old like me Hancock charged VAT on pups in them days too....
-
does he sell the black ones cheaper? Yeah - he sells the black ones a bit cheaper...seemingly they aren't popular...'cause everyone knows black dogs are slow, have no nose, can't catch and aren't very brave... FFS...does it really matter what colour it is...according to David Hancock it does to some folk and he sometimes can't sell them as easily as others...could be pink for all I care...

My first Hancock was £65...half a lifetime ago tho!!!!

That is awful - your vet sounds like a decent guy. I'd honestly be severely pissed off at this carry on - as I am sure you are. Hope it all works out for you!!!! -
Over the years ive often observed from a distance people who will eat in a posh restaurant dressed up to the nines, talking down to staff, engaging in " look how well im doing " conversations so anyone in earshot can be so impressed, picking holes in everything........................then leave and get into their crappy Ford Mondeo leaving everyone in the restaurant whispering about what a shower of c**ts they were. Its a way for them to " rise above " their usual level even if just for a short time before returning to the norm. Alternatively,a bunch of roughly spoken, slightly loud and aggre

You have PM - thank you. -
No it ain't - seriously got it all planned!!! First sign of free running pish, inability to eat soup without needing a shower, not being able to walk/run slowly/ after a dog in pursuit or repeating more than the BBC I'm off...f**k that sitting about doing f**k all shit...
-
They must have had you fairly young if your 60 odds............ Ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not quite - tell you what though some days it feels like it!!!!!!!!
-
Sometimes look at my parents (both mid 70s) and think what the f**k is the point...better off having them PTS I reckon!!! Then I see the old man next door to them, who must be in his late 80s, who has got 2 young Jack Russell and he spends all day running after them and getting dragged here, there and everywhere and is as fit as f**k...and my Dad hobbles across to the window and sees him and says "look at that daft auld b*****d - mair ti life than that at his age stupid prick" and he means it too...what my folks need is two Jack Russell pups....

Dunno if that works but I'll tell you what doesn't??? Trying to reason with them...!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Good luck finding someone for him...it's a nice dog!!!
-
That's impossible mate - something decent with Hancock breeding in it - can't be done!!!!! Wouldn't have a collie x personally...all jackers and spewers... Nice dog by the way...is it useful???

Where are you? What kinda land do you hunt, what do you want to hunt? What kinda set up at home have you got/got space for? Is it your first dog - first x collie x grey might not be best suited, maybe beddy x whippet might be better? Lots of factors!!! If you want to do lots of ferreting a saluki x might not be a good one but if you have big land and 'what not' this x might be for you!!! All the best. Colin.

Seen it many, many times - folk buying a few acres/farm moving to the countryside and demanding that the folk who've lived there for generations do it their way or no way...I've seen the hunt banned, dog walkers bullied, harassed and assaulted, walking groups banished and abused, genuined countrymen and dogmen vilified, the list could go on and on. After one particularly unsavoury incident which made our local press the editor wrote an article branding the incomers as white settlers and he was reported to the PCC...I could go on and on about this...real sore point...

As above - looking to purchase a few geese/ducks live in the Scottish Borders but willing to travel a reasonable distance. Thanks Colin
