  1. Not trying to discourage you coming on here and talking hunting jagd.
  2. I second that. Doesn't matter what's legal. It should be kept on the down low. America doesn't necessarily protect our right to hunt. No cougar or bear hunting in Oregon... It's too cruel and unsportsman like evidently. We're in a class war here on the American Continent as much as anywhere else. We've got to watch our step.
  3. Adding to the above and previous statements - having cleaned out the digestive tract by fasting the dogs are better able to absorb what is fed to them on days not fasting. I have also been told that fasting promotes muscle growth. When the fast is over and food is fed again the body releases growth hormones. I have been raised fasting myself. Not always once a week but I fast often. My girlfriend thought I was torturing my dogs because she had never heard of it but her old couch potato house dogs are ancient looking at half the age of our hunting dogs, excersizing and yes fasting. However, dur
  4. Good looking dog. And not the oversized chest. Good deal.
  5. I call a dog proven that is consistently hunting in the way that is required of it. If it only took a season then so be it. An age limit can't be put on it. Though my best dog was a cracker jack his first year and quit every time on the second year. i put him up with no hunting for 5 months, thought he was gonna have to be culled. Took him out after his long break and boom - he was the best I had. He never looked back and got better and better. I tell this story because it is not normal for a dog to show good for a whole year then stop - but it happens. That dog was not proven at 2 seasons but
  6. I hope I'm not one that's ;"riling". I like the stamp of Bad Bob's dogs. I have been tryng to point out more than anything that pictures of dogs say nothing about working ability. Even pictures of dogs in contact says very little to me. There is so much that goes on in hunting that you cannot see it in a snapshot. I'm guessing all the dogs shown have worked and I'm guessing that all the studs that were mentioned have produced some good pups or they wouldn't have been named. I would love to be able to travel all over and hunt with every character on here. I just don't have the money for it. Hun
  7. I bred an older bitch a few weeks ago. I had to leave town for work for a week and I left the dogs with my dad. Seeing as she was kenneled with another dog and rough coated my dad could not tell that she was not eating her food and he didn't have a clue she was ill. I got home and felt her and she was bony as heck and dehydrated.I gave her antibiotics that are safe for a pregnancy and had to syringe liquids down her for a night. Her temp was just one or two below normal. I got her eating raw meat for the past week and she's just starting on dry food again. She seems to have pulled through fine

    Thanks for the articles.

  9. I think it is the same whether on this side of the pond or that side of the pond. Even when it's not about money or a pissing match you get shite dogmen. Hound hunters are the worst around here. They don't catch squat but sure as hell their dogs are bred off of nite champ this or that. Having a face ripped to shreds also says little in my book. It could mean the dog works well. It could mean he was in many kennel fights. The dog that I had that looked the most "Bad-Ass" just kept picking fights with other dogs. He lost a lip here and an eye there. After the 3rd incident he was in the ground pe
  10. I wish I knew the answer to which 3 are the best studs. I've got a good bitch that I would love for the best to be put over. lol Which dog is best is a matter of opinion.I haven't seen enough to say but I have heard great things about the Angus dog producing. I think most of the best dogs are unheard of to tell the truth. I've heard alot about Sparticus and also Miner. Nuttal dogs seem to be the favorite in America. Though I think there are not enough options to claim any other bloodline as greater. I'm with stuntman that if a dog does not work to ground he should not be considered in the list
  11. America is real short on things like terrier yearbooks. I would love to have a few. Not that it would magically transport some good working terriers into America. lol There are a few around with good ones. I can't rag on all my fellows. Thanks for the replies on the topic
  12. On terriercentral.com there was a group of articles about Frank Buck called "The Best Terrierman That Ever Lived." It was an interesting article and I've procrastinated printing it for years. Now it seems the site has disappeared. Does anyone have this group of articles and anymore like it of terriermen of the past?
  13. Used to have one near the spitting image of that one. Great worker he was. i ran him over on accident while opening a farmers gate. Grieved about it to say the least. He was two years old and was really coming into his own. Hope you the best with yours.
  14. I'm doing the same myself. The stud is proven a thousand times over but the bitch only has a season under her belt. We had several other dogs that had more hunting but by some fluke they all died within a month's time - two working and one hit by a car. I knew if I wanted to keep the blood I'd have to make a breeding to an unproven female this year. I'll be keeping every pup for myself or they will be lent to my closest hunting friend who I know makes good dogs. I won't let a single one out of my grasp. When you get down to having no options it becomes a numbers game. Breed and work as many of
  15. Also not talking about money here. Just plain old giving a dog for any reason to someone who will absolutely not be doing with the dog what it is meant to do.
  16. I'm not talking about working dogs coming home and being around the family and getting affection after a hunt. I am talking about working dogs that never get hunted. Dogs bred for work and never worked. I'm not saying take your dogs out and hunt and straight awy put them in a kennel.
  17. If a terrier gets worked he will be calm fine for the rest of the week but you keep them housed all the time they go apeshit. Simple, doesn't matter what kind of working dog. if my hounds were worked 2-3 times a week they were quiet and content. If I didnt hunt my hounds for a week they would not shut up and pulled up their stakes. If my Kelpie didn't work sheep regularly we had to keep him in an acre run where he ran figure eights all day non-stop. He ate 3 times what any pet twice his size would eat. Working dogs need a job. Ceasar Milan the dog whisperer will tell you the same. Dogs need a
  18. I have yet to see a pet home be able to handle a working dog's excess energy and drive. The dogs always are bouncing off the walls and the people tell me the dog is crazy or it's this way because you inbreed. On and On I here why the dogs aren't normal. Well they're exactly what they were bred to be High strung energetic dogs. Not meant for a house. Patterdales are the most calm working breed I have ever had and all pet people I have talked to tell me they must be possessed by Satan they can't be controlled. I have seen jagdterriers that go kennel crazy without being able to hunt and they bre
  19. Nice. Let us know how they're comin on when you start em.
  20. On the wrong place to talk pet stuff. Working dogs should not be pets. I've let people have them for pets and I regret it over and over.
  21. Does Kick like a mule. I'll have to get it to an expert. I don't know squat about the stuff.
