Depends on the lines mate anthing from around 20 kg upwards average height is 23 to 25 bitches from 20 to 24kg Dogs average 25 to 27 tts and 23 to 26 kg. Got a dog 28 tts and weighs in at 31 kg running weight.

Greyhounds to listen to you are the saviour of deerhounds, coursing dogs even adding pastoral dogs. I dont need rose tinted Max Most Saluki owners in the UK are reluctant to run their dogs against line bred coursing dogs, so only a handful if that do it. However the quality of the UK bred saluki is on the up If the owners were more enthusiatic and the comps were more of open events than runs for the boys, then maybe the salukis would begin to make their mark. Most of the top dogs in coursing lines have far bigger percentage of saluki than grey in the mix why Max? Most coursing lines going out

how many "deerhounds " worked down under are pures? Or are their staghounds line bred deerhound crosses? I don't think the saluki is strong enough for the quarry that's run in Australia the deerhound offers roughly the same characteristics as in endurance and hardiness but with the added bonus of size and power How big a dog do you need ?

Get a pure greyhound out to run a Pure saluki any quarrie on any land Max you spout Greyhound track dog over this or that your the one second . guessing Coursing greyhounds had saluki blood put into them to make hunting dogs when coursing parks finished so was the pure greyhound as a viable consistent coursing dog. The same Deerhounds are no longer the chosen dog for deer are they .

I f your dogs injured its stopper a few times the scar tissue will make it a vunerable spot. Hardening it will dry it out and make it more vunerable. You can buy purpose made stopper protectors that protect the stopper They usually have velcro fastenings, or get a 3 or 4 inch piece of cycle tyre inner tube put that on when working just be careful it isnt to tight and restricts the blood flow

Australians say there is a shortage of good Saluki stock in Australia. Though numbers are now on the shopping lists even straws are being imported. So the numbers will increase rapidly.as more folk know and see the potential and capabilities.

A deers a Deer Max the dog doesnt know where it is. Does it matter if a hares in Lincolnshire or Lancashire ? if the Dog can run them it will run them. The Hindu Kush are much more inhospitable than the Highlands Max. The Officers in the British Army in Asia (1700 t0 1947) had Deer hounds and Irish wolf hounds with them when they arrived they soon went over to the salukis not just because of climate neither. as said breeds are all down to personal choice and preference.and the needed ingredient capability

Do you reckon I should get from proven working stock then? In a word yes first decide what work and terrain, then what quarrie . Plenty of questions, reading various posts and articles, talk to lads doing the stuff you want to do then find an upcoming litter from lads of good name, with good working stock. Dont pay a princes ransom, a decent lad will sell a working line pup at a working mans price. When you find a pup ask the breeder/seller to mentor you,most would agree to give you pointers.

The first thing never show your to eager to get a dog as plenty will try to part you with your hard earned cash and usually its crap they are peddling. Ask plenty of questions from numerous folk and first learn to differentiate from sound advice and bullshit.

Salukis can bring down the same stuff deer, ibex, wolf ,fox ,wild goat, hare rabbit, Salukis run any terrain from the Sands of Arabia, the Fens and fields of UK ,the foothills and higher ranges of the Hindu Kush, the vast plains of Mongolia they are tried and tested for thousands of years run rock hard land. flinty,, shale ,sand, snow, pasture what more is needed? Most of the COO dogs are used to put meat on the table and to take out predators worrying the flocks these are well documented facts.Everyone to their own preferences but Salukis should be recognised as top line hunting /running

My dog is jumpy round people and a c**t with dogs bitches or pups if they disturb him, but out on the land he knows his job and will do it. he doesnt even aknowledge other dogs are there.
