  3. I'm sure if they were alive the old timers that gate netted hares would argue it ,over a pint . I would suggest they wouldnt be paying though
  4. So do you think a Saluki is faster than a coursing bred dog? Yes or no? I said You wheel out what You have thats pacier than all salukis LOL Now you have gone off on a completely different Tangent Let me find some fishing line lolBuying a dog that's quicker than a Saluki wouldn't be exactly hard now would it? 10. Facts are humans can see motionless objects at a distance better than dogs can, this is a FACT is it not??? Don't try and skip my question. The argument you put forward related to me saying my dogs can see game moving better than lads I was with, you stated i must have some canines as humans see better which they dont nothing to do with stationary objects a sight hound doesnt course stationary objects give it up. Where did I state humans can see game moving better than dogs? No it doesn't but a human can spot sitters from a distance to slip the dog on can't they??? You're forgetting a li

  12. Dont start trying to fudge dogs can see Further and focused on a moving object as I said you are arguing without facts to back up your theories you said dogs cant see as far as humans I was talking running dogs you stated that humans see better then dogs you were wrong end off. a dog sighting game on land in hunting coursing has better sight, hence sight hounds sight and motion detection is more focused over distance in the dog.
  13. I suppose you dispute scientific fact Dog Fox
  14. Dogs cannot see at a distance as good as humans, do you disagree with that? See above post
  15. DOGS MOTION DETECTION AND LONG DISTANCE VISION Dogs have much better motion detection than humans, due to the number of rods in the centre of the back of their eye. This means that in low light conditions (such as hunting at night) dogs can both see in low light conditions as well as detect the smallest of movement from prey. While they will not be able to detect camouflaged animals as well as humans (dues to our higher colour range detection) they can easily detect the slightest animal movement. The previous segment stated that dogs have lower visual accurity than humans and less dept
  16. A dog can detect motion at 800/900 metres can you?
  17. I've seen non coursing bred Lurchers catch Hares from a fair distance away when out for a mooch. You would have i ve seen the longest slips for salukis that most dogs wouldnt even attempt tp get on terms, its not a contest between breeds of dog, its dog against hare on any particular day no matter want slant people want to put on it Not just me, the people I've been out with. Most dogs with anything about them would attempt to get on terms. I know different about dogs trying to get on terms I have been out with lads on here who couldnt even see what I had slipped on. I rely on my dogs s

  19. Weve had a couple of run ins with the female Game Officer to no avail she was making a lot of assumptions and presumptions that came to nothing But. by applying pressure to Farmers/Landowners she cost us a lot of our rabbiting permissions on her patch poisonous springs to mind.

  21. Salukis are a working dog ,most coursing bred crosses are just that coursing dogs so the stories can be slanted either way. What I will say is in PreBan days a good dog would be put to any quarry on any land in any weather and will not only run carefully selected opponents .. Long range slips make for a better test of a dog .My method is if the dog sees it then it gets slipped on if its in the same County. . Matches because they were based on kills the game plans were different but for days out they should be fair play all round for hare and dog. As has been said the hare doesnt get into ge
  22. Fair law is to allow a sporting chance to all involved as peoples estimation of distance varies greatly also the use of an independent slipper is a lot fairer, most lads running now in the comps try to tip the balance away from dog versus hare to who can get the most advantage. Pick of land,,allowing kick ups, , walking time out .Its become a win at all costs game now but with as many short cuts employed as possible.
  23. would be interesting to know how many salukis ran in the various single handed comps, prob totally outnumbered in all Very few pures did or get run in the big comps plenty of saluki x,s but these comps are primarily numbers on the doors rather than "coursing ability". The number of lads that actually work pures regularley is very small compared to other running dogs but to witness a pacy saluki work and course game is truly a thing to behold and that in UK is one of the reasons the saluki lovers have them certainly not for matching.
