  1. Not getting into it on here it's getting stupid THE " just cos I haven't done it it can't be done" attitude. Plenty of people know me and know i'm not a liar and if i was counting head of game got not digs.................... well that's another story
  2. Believe what you want to believe that is your choice and the twenty was a one off in a really good season probably won't be repeated in a hurry. But the bitch in question used to get in to double figure regularly in a weeks graft many times in good company. Not blowing my own trumpet at all just stating pups should not be bred from intentionally.
  3. Was that 3 monday 3 tuesday 3 wednesday 3 thursday 3 friday 3 saturday and only 2 on the sunday as it was the sabbath so the dog had a break No i had 7 on the Sunday but only 5 digs Plenty of lads getting good numbers with good dogs and none of them would breed from a young bitch that has barley done any real graft. A young dog with only 20 digs to it's name will probably of not even done 10 hours to ground all together.
  4. Very true, some of the best dogs i've seen have been great regardless of the muppet that's got it.,they are born not made. The best of the best overcome everything that's thrown at them regardless including a poor start, shit owner bla bla bla. GREAT dogs are born.........................But a decent dog can be made IMO. You can't put in what God left out, you will only make something mediocre from shit and thats if you've got the tallent to do it. Getting a good tune out of a bad fidle, the answer i gave was about the greats, the "once in a life time" dogs. I agree th

  6. More crap bred from crap..............................but they are a nice color Twenty f*****g digs i've had that in a week with one dog
  7. I agree to train a lurcher to stop chaseing imho is totally unnatrual and i wouldent attempt it for fear of mentally damaging the dog. this is true cause you instill rules in your dog from a young age eg.not to chase livestock etc but teaching a young dog to chase quarry and encourage him to do so then to smash that dogs confidence by then teaching him to stop well you would have to be very firm with the dog to do that any way would mentally damage a young dogs confidence but then again each to there own atb biza Some people on here really don't have a clue about dog training.
  8. The trouble with the working borders mentioned it this thread is they are priced out of the working mans reach. I enquired about a pup from a litter one of these "top guys" had on not that long ago and was quoted £450 for a bitch puppy I have had WORKING borders round me for well over a decade and i have never charged this kind of money for one and never will. Long live the working dog at a working mans price.
  9. it's nothing like the same as stopping it chasing livestock, you want it to catch rabbits etc. most of the time, you never want it to chase livestock so it shouldn't run after livestock no matter what. No but it is kind of similar to the control needed to do the following - take one hungry dog, make him sit, place a bowl of really tasty meat in front of him and watch him sit there for 10-15 mins wanting the food so bad but not moving a muscle, before you give a command and only then does he eat. Not quite but close. It's also how you tell the dog to leave things it doesnt understand yet
  10. Look lads take it as it is meant it's just an opinion but one that i believe in. They are your dogs and they will be trained to your standards but please don't put another man down for wanting more from a dog that a point and shoot hound. My dogs earn there keep and account for a little bit of stuff over the course of a season so i will stick to how i do things and you do your thing................................Happy hunting.
  11. Good stuff. I'm interested in breeding Linnet cross Goldfinch next season, any one any experience in this hybid? Not a very good cross mate they are poor color and are usually mad as hell better muleing with linnets or maybe pair one to a bullfinch and try your luck.
  12. I'm not talking about some wild dog rampaging round the countryside, I mean it you were just on a park or something and a rabbit pops up. Thousands of people walk their dogs off the leads around parks and countryside!! If your dog was 30 yards away from you and a rabbit it appeared next to it, you're telling me that you saying "no" would stop it chasing it??? YES!
  13. Any dog man worth his salt should be able to stop his dog from chasing something he doesn't want it to. I'm not talking about calling a dog off mid race although this can also be done with the correct training. I'm talking about stopping a dog in it's first few paces letting it know what it's after in not on the menu at the present time. The simple word NO can save a whole lot of trouble when out and about IMO there is no excuse for letting an out of control poorly trained dog loose in the country side.
  14. Couple on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cast-Iron-Decorative-Garden-Spade-Door-Knocker-New-/370351337486?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Home_Garden_Decorative_Accents_LE&hash=item563aa8f00e
  15. Not really a problem with all the modern sulphur drugs. I bred 60 young greenies one year and only lost one and that was to a night fright which is a bigger problem with them IMO than going light. They throw there tail and flights at the smallest disturbance through the night.
  16. You get payed to run a dog on a posh golf course???? Bet the green keeper isn't to happy about that I know when we were kids and one of the only places we had to run the dogs was a local golf course ( not permission) and a dog spinning it's quarry on a putting green could make one hell of a mess.
  17. Or you can buy the raw ingredient from across the pond works out about £35 a liter
  18. That red dog is one hell of a good looking terrier and for his age is a credit to you
  19. Any pics?? and whats the price?
  20. PM Shamo off here mate i'm sure he knows a lad that makes some top notch gear.
  21. The dogs don't kill the Deer. They catch and hold them. Sounds like you know an awful lot about it though!!! You want to get a better dog then................................. If the dog isn't actively trying to kill it he ain't gonna be HOLDING for very long. I have seen dogs kill all species of deer up to sika size with very little fuss except on the biggest of bucks then it gets interesting Running deer was a passion of mine pre 2005 but rabbits are my only game now but here is my opinion on things for what it's worth. The hare is the ultimate test of a running dogs speed &am

  23. You know nothing mate everyone knows that deer are big clumsy things that run round with there eyes closed just waiting to run into something. A buck rabbit is more of a test to a lurcher than Bambie FACT!!!!!!!
  24. If you use them you got to fix them........................... mine just cost me a small fortune too
