  1. Should I go back and put all this in big writing so that it's more believable? ?
  2. Exactly what I meant, grizzly bears, one of the biggest CARNIVORES on the planet, eat MILLIONS of berries and vegetation, 'omnivores by nature' Brown bears have large canine teeth toward the front of they're mouths. However towards the rear they have flatter grinding teeth. Omnivore by evolution! if they ever were carnivores. I know this as I've just looked at a brown bear scull on Google images lol. So the formular taught to me when I was 12 works. Just checked Google images again. A Panda's denture is the same as a brown bears canine teeth at the front flat grinding teeth at the back
  3. This is not to suggest that carnivours never eat anything other than meat. They may take small quantities of vegetation at times for whatever reason. Whether that be predigested prey animal stomach contence or the odd blade of grass. Much of which will pass through them undigested (undigested, I hardly call that a food source!). I don't think the odd blade of grass makes a mammal an omnivore.
  4. I learnt in a biology class when I was around 12. That herbivores have flat grinding teeth for efficiently grinding large amouts of vegetation such as a horse or a cow (however this didn't stop farmers from feeding meat derived products, which attributed to mad cows disease). Carnivores on the other hand had pointy jagged teeth for tearing flesh and crunching bones, loins, wolves etc. Omnivores however have a mixture of flat grinding teeth and pointed jagged teeth such as humans a set of pointy teeth and grinding teeth. This is an indication of what an animal is at first glance. But this of cou
  5. Thanks for all the replys folks. Yis Allan

  8. This time of year I just use wood shavings. When it's colder I use shredded paper on top of shavings
  9. Does anyone use muscle embrocation on their dogs regularly? I know a lot of greyhound trainers swear by it. If you use it how frequently, after every time they have worked. Or only if you know they have had a strain or a pull? What about brands any recommened brands?
  10. i thinks it law you can't net hares at night I could be wrong but I'm prity sure that's wrong. Anyone else have any input on this?
  11. Think I may need to look at getting myself an old traditional style gate net. Nice light weight and easy to fit inside my jacket. To be carried at all times when out with the dog. You know, in case the opportunity should ever arise whilst out lamping rabbits.
  12. Thanks again Giro, all as I suspected. But it's good to know someone else shares my thinking. Also food for thought as I'm also a falconer. Although I don't have a bird at the moment. Further to that I dont own any kind of hunting dog at this moment. But this is soon to change, as my nice new lurcher was born last week. So I look forward to working it within to confines of the the law ?.
  13. Thanks Giro, what kind of insurance? Also what would be the case be if say. The dog mouthed the hare after the hare was secured in the net?
  14. So with regards to the law. Would it be illegal to "flush" a hare to a gate or long net using a dog? Of any kind. Under the current legislation? Please only answer this if you actually know the answer. YIS Allan

  16. The Gafer, I'm just looking to get back into the lurcher game after being out for 10 years. I was going to see what came up in a few months. But I think I may be very interested in your litter. Having ran a good few dogs to a good standard. I have mates still involved in the game. I have also been in other types of dog work and other field sports in the last 10 years. Will have a lot of good permission including a 6500 acre estate 10 mi
  17. What sort of breeding are you looking for Allan? I think I'm looking for a good pot filling lurcher. I'm not to bothered about it having bull in it. I was thinking more along the lines of dh/gh x col/gh perhaps. A good all rounder.
  18. Thanks for the reply and pm gafer. I don't feel the litter your breeding is right for me at this time. Wish you all the best with the sale I'm sure they would suit a lot of lads. Atb Allan

  20. Hi WC, I've often thought of flying a Redtail at squirrels. I've also thought something like a Plummer might be a good dog to use for finding the squirrels (i think in the states they have something called a fiest hound or something they use.which is not UN-terrier like). But I also understand that plummers are feisty and prey driven. So I've often thought that if the RT nailed a squirrel and brought it to the woodland floor. The terrier would be there soon after. The terrier wouldn't be able to resist getting "stuck in!". Which I would imagine can only end up in a dead hawk. What would be
