  1. Hey, nice dog....is he hancock bred? Looks very much like the hancock first cross i picked up this year. Will hopefully post a photo later.
  2. If I dog breaks it's neck, is hit at speed by a car or smashes it's leg beyond repair, you can have all the insurance you like, it's going to to bugger all to save the dog! As I said 'causing injuries', death is a non-refundable claim dry bread........
  3. I think regardless of working ,Lurchers all run flat out and have a natural instinct to chase causing injuries so insurance is a must!.........
  4. Only advise I have been given over and over is always get a 'life time' policy, the rest have too many loop holes to not pay out! The 'Which' website can explain more.......
  5. Thanks for reply, think I will just get back to basics and walk them separately until little un's caught up a bit. Found a good place to take them too, finally, bloody city living!! atb x
  6. Yeah had thought this may be the case, though a couple of dogs have had a go at him and she didn't seem to care one bit might just seek out some older, confident dogs who can remind her of some manners.............will work on the pups confidence too reduce any need for her to back him up though as he is a bit of a drip Thanks
  7. Hey there just looking for a bit of advice on my lurcher bitch. Went out for a walk (with her and the dog pup) yesterday to a little park in the nice side of town, as expected we came across a golden retriever, only 11 months old, so it comes over, tail wagging and my two are chasing each other as usual. On greeting the dog she starts to chase it but with focus, takes out its back legs with a bite and then is all over it, hackles up and growling enough to bring the owner over in a panic, especially as her behaviour has set the pup off who is now nipping and barking at her(my dog)!! Apart from
  8. Lovely looking cattle dog cross......anyone on here got a cattle dog cross?
  9. Dogs are naturally opportunist eaters, Horse/Cow/Sheep/Rabbit sh*t is full of well processed fibre that is good for dogs as they do not digest it well first hand so to speak. It doesn't necessarily mean their diet is lacking, but they aren't going to miss they chance of a free meal! As for rolling in it, one theory goes it's to disguise there own scent from their prey with the prey's own scent in order to get close up undetected, the other is that a dog is sharing the scent of their catch/meal with the rest of the pack.......either way its natural behaviour, just teach em to leave it if it bot
  10. When I worked at kennels I found that all Bulls and x's of where very noisy compared to most other breeds. I found them very human reliant as well so breed does play a part. There are lots of things you can try to stop or tone this down as its just attention seeking. Ignoring completely will put an end to it eventually, but a quick fuss and something to busy them while your ironing(!) will make it easier on the dog............
  11. Did ask him if he'd go for a Whippet cross and it will depend on the size of Whippet as he doesn't want the dog to turn out anything under 21" so if you know a bit about the Whippet then that would really help? Thanks for the reply x
  12. Hey, a friend is looking for a 1st cross Beddy/Grey pup (dog) if anyone here knows of a litter or planned litter soon? Any info much appreciated. In South-West area but will travel for right dog. Thanks
  13. So is the pup of 3 months the one who snapped at you and your nephew? If so may be teething and a bit ratty about his face being touched?! Not good considering the children around but worth a thought.................But gotta be said two lurcher pups together does encourage nips cause that's what they spend all there time doing together. Firm but fair at that age..........Or I'm rambling about an irrelevant scenario..blah blah
  14. I have a bearded colliexgrey, he's only 4 months so yet to find how well he'll do or look like! A lot of white coming in and a heavy coat i'm guessing at the moment. Has the traits of both crosses, very vocal when he has it about him, quick to learn, though generally quiet and gentle like a hound. Looking forward to this one.............
  15. Think the worst thing to come of all this over production, selling swapping, shooting, dumping, abusing and blatant disregard for lurcher's was the ban in the first place. If you remember that the hunting ban wasn't just about poor little peter rabbit but equally for the protection of the dogs used for the game. If they had been better cared for we may still have the right to hunt freely!! But then people would have to work harder with the dog/pup they chose in the first place!
