  3. Lots of nettles.......i'd bet my bottom dollar theres been hens or something similar on the patch before? You can get stuff called Grazon as well, it will kill the nettles but wont effect any grass that might be there. Obviously not organic but really the only way to do that is to pull them out...
  4. .......you think that would have the opposite effect on the soft mouth though. Hardly known for being the most soft mouthed the faithful collie?..
  5. But theres nobody here saying the lurcher is uesless, its use lads trying to push saying the lurcher is as good as a Lab/Spaniel at Gundog work when thats incorrect. I reckon a Lurcher couldn't go deep back into a wood to look for an injured bird without the owner worrying a deer pops up and its gets coursed across the field infront of a load of guns, i've yet to see any lurcher that works hand signals like a proper gundog( not seen it but wont dismiss it cant be done), i think a lurcher would struggle wildfowling at freezing temps', i've yet to see a lurcher that bashes brambles aside like th

  15. . All the services you mention above use collies also as do the likes of mountain rescue, the last time I looked the majority of dogs being used (Scotland) were collies. You won't get any arguements from me regarding a well bred gundogs capabilities, I'm only saying what I have experienced and I'll also concede the point that the majority (not all) of the lurchers I've seen the equivilant and better than a lot of gundogs have been collie blooded. i'll sit on the fence here and try and be everyones mate and say that many times over the years I've had a notion to own and work a gundog bred l

  18. Good post mate and i mean that. Your quite correct in saying that i have little too none knowledge on lurchers, i have no problem admitting that. But its pretty frustrating to read on here how many lurchers are better at Gundog work than Gundogs are. I think Mooch had covered it quite well when he says "shit gundogs" cause thats exactly what they must be. I fully understand that a lurcher, especially with collie blood could be very useful at retrieving game, but so could a highly trained terrier or pet pooch but this doesn't have a patch on a proper working gundog. I think Dan said it as well
  19. Well thats me sold all the Labs and got myself a couple of Lurcher pups for the picking up. Dont know why i've f****d about so long.......;-)

  21. Whippet master at rabbits Saluki master at coursing Deerhound master at Deer Lurcher master at nothing........................................No?
  22. So we can say 100% that the Lurcher is a jack of all trades but master of none and the Lab or Spaniel is master at its job.......I'm happy with my master then i wouldn't be seen dead with anything but the best.....
  23. i kid you not mine will work cover like a spaniel, retieve like a lab and catch stuff both the spaniel and the lab wouldnt get close to You wouldn't want a lurchers on the foreshore in Nov, Dec or Jan though would you mate.....they would freeze to death. i live nowhere near the sea, there not carring the fat layers a lab carries and would think the wind chill would be a killer in that situation. but as i said earlier the lurcher will not compete with a spercific task dog but excells as an allround pooch. how long would a lab last lamping rabbits before it gave up. We wil
