  1. Hi, Just got myself my first ever lamping dog, shes a small whippet with a bit of terrier in her. Ive seen her on the lamp before so she knows the score. I want to start going on my own now but i was wondering what sort of set up would best suit me. I know there are a lot of lamping kits out there but i know very little about them. I will be going for about 3hrs at a time on land that is lamped a fair bit in some cases.....filter?? I dont want to spend the earth but at the same time I want a reliable lamp, been out too many times with other guys where the lamp has packed up an
  2. Brought the new bitch home yesterday, her and my terrier get on very well. Both the same age so they started playing together straight away. They are both curled up on the sofa as I write this! She is still having the odd accident in the house, I suppose that is because everything is new, routine, house, owner etc. I took her for a walk on her own first thing this morning and she never left my side, then i took her out with the terrier and they were both fuckers!! Going out tonight with a couple of other lads and their dogs so I might bring her along for a look. Ive seen her on t

At home ive got a patterdale dog who is good as gold with other dogs but can be a bit moody when it comes to food etc. Ive only got a small place and both dogs will be on their own sometimes indoors. Im just after any tips about introducing them, im sure they will be fine but any advice would be much appreciated.

  10. Haha yeh the barrel was a god send! Was good being on my own in a way. Amazing what you can see when your quiet in the woods, as I turned up a hen sparrow hawk come rattling throught the trees with a mouse.
  11. Got a tip from the groundsman at an estate I ferret, that the fields surrounding a small block of woodland were getting a hammering from the rabbits. I had a look on the Saturday and sure enough it was like rabbit city in there! I'm used to ferreting hedge rows so the clear open warrens in the woods looked all too appealing so I set out first thing Sunday morning with four Jills (inc 2 new Polecats) and the mutt. This was the first time ive been ferreting solo as my mate couldnt make it which meant that neither could his whippet. So my terrier/rodent had to step up. We missed a few but ha

  17. I recently bought two polecat Jills and have noticed similar thing. Yes they are much thicker set than my ferrets and yes i have found that when picked up, they just sit there as stiff as a board! the skin in oily as you say and seems much thicker than my ferrets. I took the plunge and worked them both yesterday, both accepted a collar no problem and both seemed to work very thoroughly. I found that their speed around a warren was incredible but found that they seemed to revisit the same areas a lot, typical of young ferrets in their first trip i suppose. They did shift a few rabbits, and
