The blind leading the blind

tried the old turning back on her routine didnt really work to be honest, didnt like the thought of tug of war but maybe thats the way, worry about getting the prey of her at a later stage swaping it for a treat ect You might try stepping towards her at the last minute to get the retieve before she drops it, praise and throw again. If she drops it no praise, put it in your pocket, forget it for 5 mins, try again. Never throw it if she drops it, she's anticipating the throw, teach her she only gets the throw if she gives to hand. Might take awhile but she should grasp it ,after all she's l

That method only works on the basis, that if you've made the dog stay away from you, it naturally wants to come. It doesn't train the dog to come over long distances when it doesn't want to. It's also bad practice to recall from a stay position during training, it easily leads to an unsteady stay.Good practice is to go to the dog, touch and release the dog. best practice in the field is to, whenever possable send the dog on from the stay before recall.Only recall from the stay when you have to. It does if you increase the distance using a whistle untill your 2 or 300 meters away eventually

You can train a dog to a high standard on 10 minutes twice a day mate.

A good dollop of Saluki adds a bucket load of stamina to any breed.

Get her on a long cord, call her, haul her in and praise well. Only let her off in places you can get her back without calling her, where you can catch her as she goes past. The proplem is usually, that you've trained her not to come to recall by using it in situations where you can't make her obey . Every time you call her and she doesn't come, you are in fact training her not to. Useing this method for a week or two will lead her to believe that when you call she has no choice. In the meantime, when the dogs loose, in an emergency, don't recall , run to the dog.To train to the whistle, give t

If somebody does it, and it's any good , they aren't likely to tell you are they.

Does he need to see a bunny until then,,??

I've heard this said so many times, always by folk who can't train a dog. -

Far as I can see the only folk who worry about hunting up when lamping, are the ones who can't train a dog.My dogs always did everything ,day, night, ferreting, mouching, makes no difference.A dog only hunts up if you let it. My dogs would lamp off the lead walking to heel, and wouldn't chase till they were told to. they would even watch other dogs run. When ferreting I would place them anywhere I wanted them and they would stay put till one bolted. You can train a lurcher as good as any gun dog, my gsp hunts up like a train but if I blow the stop whistle or the recall it does what it says on th -
And that advice is based on what! Anthropomorphism ? At least mine was based on 50 years of experience.

I aggree mate , at least with a dog there is a large amount of natural selection, the ill, infirm, old and daft are more likely to get caught.

I would split them, they will rear together, but you often get problems with one jill dragging the other about, treating it as if it's a kit. Also if they both have big litters in the same nest, the smaller ones sink to the bottom and don't do well , often dying. Unfortunately these small ones are usually the jills. So unless you want a high percentage of hobs, split them.

yes your quite right in what you say ,to much calcium can couse problems ... calcium and phospherous work together and its a fine balance between to much or little of either and problems ,to much calcium will grow bone quickly ..but it may lack in dencity and be subject to fracture ,,good balanced diet is the answer Also, calcium is not much use without adiquate levels of vitamin d.

I'm not voting for any of them, they are all the f*****g same, who ever gets in, you can be sure that we will get the shity end of the stick. again.

I,m,o, 29 is too big,I would not want a dog over 26 for any job with the exeption of maybe deer. A wagon can't slow down and change direction as easy as a mini, the strength to weight ratio is higher in a smaller dog, and a smaller dog gets up to speed faster. I've seen whippets easily beat greyhounds over 150mts. A realy big dog hasn't got the stamina of a smaller dog. Having said all that, a tall lightly built dog will perform better than a heavily built one. So I guess it's more about weight than hight. Romany, I don't know what whippets and greyhounds you have seen; but I have NEVER

well from what the law states in catcher 1s post i would say yes!! theres no such thing as accidental hunting!! I would say no, if legaly hunting rabbits then that is your intention, Hares, deer unintentional, so your not hunting them.
-
To me that means, if something gets up in front of exersising dogs, accidentally, then it's not hunting,so you are not contravening the act.Thats obviously why so many hunts get off. Intention is not easy to prove.

In my younger days, I was getting grief off a keeper,so I went on everyday, to walk the footpaths with the running dogs. He had the police out to me 5 days on the trot, but from then on whenever he saw me from a distance, he would come tearing over, till he could see it was me, then just turn round and piss off. I took that to mean I had permission

Everybody uses words or sounds of encouragement when the dogs on,It may be worth shouting " oi leave it you b*****d " to gee him up, instead of "go on then"

I know any dog can take a tumble, but why would anybody in thier right mind, want to breed dogs with a physical deformaty that means they can't pick up without falling over. Even when you get mr burrels explanation , it still sounds like a bloody andicap.
