  3. Gnipper is right. I had a job come in for catching some pea cocks. Made 2 big funnels and used them with one of my partridge pens. Took about a week to catch 5. Then I got paid!
  4. We have a few in West Sussex but not vast amounts.
  5. Who's the huntsman there at the moment????
  6. I put one of my triple catch larsens out at 6.30 last night (side entry) and had a crow and a magpie by 8am this morning. Only one more trap to go out now
  7. Spare time???? What the hell is that? With all the vermin that needs controlling and all the pints of bitter that I HAVE to drink there is no time left!
  8. Not to bad. Will be picking them up tomorrow. Sunday night was not as good as expected. By the time I had seen the rest of the farm, with the client, it was starting to get on so I think there may have been some sent left on the wires from my hands. Last night was much better although the foxes and badgers had most of them away. Not to worry. Cheers Spike
  9. Well out again today with the wires and traps. First place is a nice rough field with quite a lot of rabbit damage. There can’t be a lot of good grass left for the horses that graze it. I have got 40 peg snares out and 14 fence wires. I hope it’s a good haul as I have just picked up this farm and need to get the rabbit numbers down quick. There is going to be plenty more snaring to do there and a good bit of ferreting. The second place to day is another horse paddock but as the ponies were only taken out yesterday, after 3 weeks of telling the owner to move them if he wants the job don
  10. Hi Branch, I have contracts where I charge either by the mole and others where they pay me a fixed rate for the year. Depends on where it is and who it’s for. On a golf course I would try and get them to go for a contract but really it’s up to you and how much you want to earn out of it. Work out an hourly rate and how long you think it going to take…..see what they say. Some you win, some you loose. Cheers Spike
  11. Hi all. Where is the best place to get a live catch fox trap, spring loaded door and a good size. Need one asap. Any tip for bait and setting would be good as well. Cheers Spike
  12. I have done 3 light force in a year………..connections always go, or the trigger or both. Have had my clulite for about 8 years. It just keeps going. But it’s not so good for shooting. No where near the same beam as he light force. So my answer is both and I will just have to keep buying new lamps. Cheers Spike
  13. I have 4 terriers and two lurchers. It can be hard work some times as the nights close in but I can’t do with out them. Earlier this season I was real short of terriers as 3 of them were un-entered. The older lurcher had a broken toe and the other is a pup. Its got a little better now but I could still do with another lurcher but I wont take on an older dog, never had one come up to standard……..you have to make them, not buy them. Cheers Spike
  14. Total from the 58 peg wires was 28 over 3 nights picking up the wires that had court a long the way, as I don’t have that much time in the morning so I don’t re-set them. It has turned real frosty and clear down here so I am quite happy with that. The other set has not done so well. 18 so far with a few knocks. The grass is quite long in this field and I had not got the snares set high enough. These are still out as a mate of mine is checking them as it is on his farm. Once the weather turns again and the moon is down I will get some more out. Sorry no pics as I am on dial-up and i
  15. Hi all, Well not the best of nights for the wires but still had 11 and one knocked . These wires will be out for another two nights so I will keep you posted. I also set another 79 peg snares in a 40 acre field today. Will let you all know what the catch is. Cheers Spike
  16. Tell me about it. I still get paid but the rabbits are what make up the money. We are going to have to have a sort out with the foxes. The farmer was as up-set as I was. He knows that I can only keep the price down all the time I am taking rabbits to the game dealer. Cheers Spike
  17. Well Rabbithunter- It will have to be the 58 wire challenge………..as that’s what I put out this morning. Three separate fields, some with grass longer than others. All peg snares. We will see tomorrow. Cheers. Spike
  18. Some of the ground that I have you could do it on, if you could stop anyone else lamping it for a while. We shoot well over the ton mark maybe twice a month and don’t make a dent. The only reason that we don’t shoot more is that they are just about as lamp shy as it gets. We can only shoot that many because these rabbits have to get out and feed. There’s not a lot of grass left with that many of the little buggers running about.
  19. Had the same happen to me last week………….25 peg snares out, 18 rabbits accounted for over 3 nights and I only took 3 home. The rest had either gone to Mr Fox or the numerous badgers in the area! Not happy
