  4. One of 3-4 year old jills has lost one of her top canines (the ones that stick out and grab stuff). she is fit and healthy and the gum shows no signs of infection or swelling. 1.Has anyone found this on a young (ish) ferret before? 2.Do they grow back like rodents do? I'm not too worried as she eats loads of bones in her diet which i suppose can cause a weak root to loosen and drop but i was surprised given her age. ....Just wondering.

The only problem with the short sharp neck job is that it can damage your nets in the excitement of the moment if you don't remove the rabbit first. I've tried all methods. One thing is certain...it's very hard to remove a struggling rabbit from the net before killing it. I simply pick it up in the net ,hold it by the head and give it a quick flick forcing the back legs very quickly back towards the back of the head at speed whilst pulling the head in the opposite direction. One or two quick flicks are always enough and the net remains in tact. FFS.give him a chance!!!!!!!!. We all ha
  6. I haven't got a garden or compost heap, just a back yard. My ferrets do their business...(well most of it )in a metal tray. I lift the back yard manhole cover every night and rinse it straight down the sewer .Only use a paint scraper and scrubbing brush. Have you got a manhole cover nearby? or outside bog? would save using rubber gloves/plastic bags etc? Good luck.
  7. Thanks for that, i've learned a lot about the RSPCA powers
  8. I read somewhere that a tv aerial screw connector will do the job and when i checked my secondhand collar, sure enough that appears to have one fitted. This one started playing up last year though.I've been wondering about approaching a local electronics shop where they love building little gadgets from bits of wire and transmitters etc. I know nothing about electronics but wonder if a cheap mk 1 collar could be made up somehow. good luck anyway.Mooster
  9. I've used both and prefer jills. The reason is that the hob i had was big and was constantly messing up the nets, whereas the jills being smaller seem to pass through them more often than not. If I was just having one as a pet though I would go for hobbs just 'Cos they look impressive and i can use them to scare away my mother in law!
  10. Thanks for some very interesting ideas folks. Mooster.

  13. At the risk of sounding like a know all tosser..........Don't rely too heavily on the machine anyway.Use it as a last resort.Hands on experience of your ferrets and rabbits/field craft will boost your confidence so much more than mechanical devices.Good luck!!! Mooster

  15. Let's not forget...this is America... Looks genuine to me, as Hog has mud and straw on it.Fakes are usually too clean looking. In any case i agree.."FOOKIN ELL"!!

  18. We've all been there...you meet someone new at work or the pub or a party and the conversation gets around to your ferrets.(usually by a mutual friend who wants to see how you react to eachother). Then after the blue touch paper has been lit the fireworks begin..."OH MY GOD-YOU DO WHAT?" "How can you be so cruel? aren't your ferrets scared of the dark?.."What have those poor little bunnies done to you"?"And you kill and eat them"?!!.."How"? "Why?"..... My most favoured argument for killing and eating my own meat is greatly assisted by the whole Burnard Matthews thing....If you don't eat Chi
