  2. when iam running local grazing land..grass land ect ...a quick wash and a check over is all i do ....but when iam running arable land ...crop land ...the mud.. soil sets like concrete ...it gets in the wicks and can make them very sore and even cause infection....most of the lads who run arable will tell you the same....for the sake of checking and washing feet can save you having to lay your dog off for a while ....important thing are a dogs feet dan...
  3. nobody can say all saluki,s or all line bred saluki crosses have good feet .but yes a high percentage will have ..but you stil have to take care off them like any other breed...my dogs feet get bruised like any other would running on rough ground.. so will the dogs in the far east....wash them and take of them everytime you have been out ...if my dog has had an hard day..and his feet have took a battering we wash them at a farm or keepers house or where ever we can with a hose pipe .,..then on the way home near where i live me and another lad of here stand the dogs in a river near us for 20 m

  8. have alook at the ground round the dog baw...this dog weighs nearly 70lb running at around 30 mph..maybe a bit more at times .. twisting and turning.. on quite a few occaisions the dog has come passed me and i cringe ....it like the sound of you or i kicking our boots on a stoney beach ....and all this is just to retrive the hare the bird has obviously killed..... i would say they dont need any injection of any other breed to improve there feet ....but thats just my opinion ....even though iam fairly sure your on the wind up ..just getting my point across..
  9. It takes more than two days walking to get a dog fit, especially a heavily built dog. I wouldn't let it run at all for at least a month unless you have a sandy beach or wet field to let it have a canter about. Ground's rock hard here and I don't let any of mine gallop now unless we're near the river where the ground is softer. Most probably either strained tendons or ligaments or bruised the bones. Either way, ice pack to reduce inflammation, or hose for 5 minutes at a time twice a day. Keep on lead for at least a week after all the swelling and pain has gone. If the swelling doesn't go do
  10. depends on whos got it. ..it also helps if you are happy with the parents to the dog and how they worked ...wether you seen them yourself or you have 100% trust in someone who has seen them work ,,,,
  11. i think its about creating a good bond ...( trust)...i got a young pup on at the moment ...very young ..3 1/2 months old ..i took all the dogs out this morning for a good walk ...but this afternoon i made sure i had time for just her on her own for an hour or so..to do a bit of recall ..ect ect ...when out with other dogs they have to much intrest in what there doing and its hard to get there 100% attention...spend as much time as you can ..if it lives outside fetch it in for a while ...with you getting the dog at ten months old you will have your work cut out ...but you will get there with pl
  12. does anybody no where the ginger geezers farm is ...what part of the country ...looks like theres some good running to be had there....i was thinking of asking for permission .....
  13. to run a dog on 5 hares and for the dog to kill 5 hares on the fen it has to be in top condition and at the top of its game ..so there for its got a good dog man behind it...
  14. mines just just about 25" sire to mine was 3/4 saluki 1/4 lurcher ..dam was a bizta ...there was a tad of bull in the dam ...hes 5 years old and hes a fast dog...he might of lost a little bit of speed but theres a good few lads on here whos seen him run ..and most important hes got a real big heart....hes run every type of land big fen and small rocky stoney hedgy you name it ...
  15. i think by the sounds of it barny is the better producer baz....ive been out with several benji bred animals and a couple of barny bred animals..and i know which i would use if i wanted a bitch covered .....i was also out with the lad who owns barny ..hes says barny ...lolol..and ive also been out with a lad who watched benji run week in week out,,,through a couple of seasons and hes says benji,,lolol....both very good dogs but like i say i think barny is the better prodcuer ..thats from what ive seen run,,,,theres people on here who may think different ,,,,just my opinion....and a couple of l

  19. thanks he is a fair dog but i was saying he aint a fen dog... anyway iam not going to steal toms thread ..imo an allround can be any size or cross ...it just got to be able to adapt on the ground its running and the quarry its after..and catch a good number of varid quarry....consitantly ...
  20. then you dont know what a fen dog is then ..iam not going to get into this again but please dont think just because a dog runs the fens or bred for the fens can only catch on the fens you would be being very nieve.... chid21 you are 100% correct one good day dont make a dog ...and the dog did have a good day...but i didnt get him for the fens ,,,i got him for what he does best and thats a bit of everthing everwhere hes been on everything hes ever run ..i used take him down there to keep him fit and have some fun it was his last season down there.. now just local for him from now on,,,.but he
  21. ive got a saluki lurcher x lurcher ... 5 seasons under his belt and hes been what i call a proper honest dog ...hes ran up and down the country on allsorts and never let me down on the lamp or daytime ..ive let him down a time or too ,,,running him to hard ,,,,but his heart is massive...for what i have run him on alot of dogs would of thrown the towel in.....hes had some real stick running on ground and i will quote what a mate said ..he wouldnt run a cat on it .. never been a fan of ferreting so for that reason he aint to good ....his feet arnt the best no more...but he still fills the freez
