They can eat from 3 wks mate if it's dry then make sure you soak it for them mince any meat up and they won't open their eyes etc until they are 5 ish weeks old. What makes you think she isn't feeding them and is she trying to drag them back into the nesting box Regards JW

jackwhippet replied to bigbailey's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
thats the funniest thing ive heard and i cant offer any advice as i have never seen/heard of it before, no doubt the lads on here will have an idea of what it is best regards JW -
That's how I turn my locators off with the arrows on each touch them together and they turn off/on I think that key is just an extra saves using the box hope this helps Regards JW

My Jill is really good normally, my son went to pick her up Wednesday night and she lunged at him and this is her first litter so I am a bit reluctant to open the nest box and sneak a peek do you think she will be ok with me looking or should I not tempt it Regards JW

Thanks for advice Jamie I put a small bowl of egg/ milk mix in and a few strips of liver plus her dry food, but I have noticed that she hasn't really drank a lot of water from the bottle so I will put a bowl of water in as you suggested, I think it may be down to egg/milk mix she may have had all the fluid she needed from that? Regards JW

I'm breeding to keep my line, they've worked well for me and I wanted to add a few jills to my team. I must admit I have been like the expectant father and fretting over the jill, the missus has been laughing at me. Ive heard so many horror stories it almost put me off breeding. Regards JW

Well just been to clean out the litter trays and my pregnant Jill has done toilet on the top tier of the hutch which is very unusual ,so as I'm cleaning it up she came out to greet me that's when it all made sense, she gave birth last night. I had Saturday down as the due date so it was a nice suprise to hear the kitts yelping for mum. Haven't looked yet will leave her for a few days, it doesn't sound like a very big litter though! Oh well as long as there all healthy. My Jill looks in perfect condition as she did yesterday is that normal I only ask as this is my first breeding program to add

Try your local butchers for scraps I get hearts livers and lights often from them try to stay away from pork products or feed limited amounts of it. handle daily, clean food and water daily I remove the faeces daily and big clean out every sat morning and above all enjoy the little fella Best of luck JW

This is what gets me let me put it to you like this. THEY ARE MY LINE OF WORKING FERRET WHY WOULD I BUY SOMEONE ELSES SHIT Simples. I am breeding to add to my stock and nothing more Don't tar everyone with the same brush. The ones that are in it for the money are sadly mistaken if you think you can turn a profit because if feed properly and looked after they cost a small fortune much much more than the tenner you may get for them if you want to preach to folk join a church. Regards JW

As you all know (well most of us it seems) its mating time I'm breeding mine this year to add to my team, yesterday put jill in with my hob and left them to it just checking the periodically after the deed was done took the jill out and inspected her back of her neck was a right mess so phoned my sister-in-law in my local vets to pick me up some antiseptic powder, she asked one of the vets is there any thing around the house I could use the vet recommended sudocrem so I ask this question to you all: anyone used it or will anyone use it Regards JW
