  1. f**k me mate, the weather isnt realy cold enough but there's plenty people going out and finding to ground, i will hada speak to jamie2004 and dog n natives and we will go to the secret location where we can do some serious pest control, and some cover work, mite be easier to find away in the hills at first light! Has barry started yet?
  2. I have a family tree somewhere from gran parent and great gran parents down to cob which my dog is also bred from, she must of been from a different litter as she is 3ish maybe going on 4 i cant be sure, i spoke to the lad off here that told me everything about the family and gran parents with pictures etc! Ill try to find it but no promises as i may have deleted the pm was a while since we spoke! My bitch
  3. I think this post is good enough, plus the guy isnt a member of THL...We like to see our fellow members doing well.... weight mentioning isnt needed in such a good write up, and a cracking fish...PB should be kepted to ones self.... Especially when not asked. Just my opinion. ATB Russ Its not a competition mate, any fish over 14lb is a cracking fish and the only reason i said about fish pal is because he could keep up to date with the river he landed the fish on! Im sure there was no hard feelings! Maybe i just dont get some people! your slamon was bigger, and... tha

  5. Well done mate, cracking fish there! Ive always thought about taking up fly fishing everyone seems to enjoy it more. I spin on the river tyne my biggest is 24lb in 9 years ive hooked bigger and never landed! Last week a member took a 30lb and a 35lb salmon from the same beat same day and last year he also got a 35lb! He an expert at shriping and worming! Go to google and type in fish tyne and click on the fish-pal you can see the photo's and the write up it also gives information on rivers all over the world!
  6. What the hells going on 118118118118
  7. It will come with time try to get some easy bunnys for her, if she is retriving a dummy day time she needs to pick a few bunnys up and go from there! After missing the bunny, its the excitement in the pup she wants more and faster than you can put her on a lead! Keep lamp off after she misses and dont continue lamping untill she is back on slip!
  8. Try walking away from her with the lamp off, have your slip lead ready and take hold of her collar when she comes back to you! How old is the dog? is it her first season or just learning the trade?
  9. Is this when retriving a bunny after missing a bunny? Is there any other dogs out with you?
  10. Sorry mate, as above! Start with alot of easy runs or try to get as close as you can to the bunnys on the fence befor running the dog,if by this time the dog has no chance of getting it cos the bunnys making a move, keep the dog collared up, or it will only get worse! Will come with time! My bitch only does it now and again and its not as serious as most have seen on here, its also towards the end of the night when she is tiring a bit!
  11. Dont know if this is a valid answer but hear goes! My bitch for example is 25 1/2 inches 1/4 bull airedale 3/4 grey mainly used for rabbit, big rabbit and no eye deer, she can hold a fox, maybe kill it if given a chance to tool on for 3-4 mins but not for me! I would be after a heavy dog thats 100% on fox and big rats to add that little bit strength, maybe lack a little pace than the bitch but should be good for most jobs!
  12. Good point, hard to say for me realy as the more this goes on im starting to think mine isn't as bad as first thought, she gets alot of bunnys to hit cover hard and they fall into her mouth or come back into open a bang another in the bag! And its just this season realy and ive only been out a handful of times so far, so i couldn't realy comment but it wouldn't realy bother me!
  13. Some she just goes flat out at some of them the harder ones and catches them quite well, some of the easier ones with a bit more of a chance and she turns her nose up! Suppose they no what there capeable of after catching hundreds over the years!
  14. no being funny mate, but thats what i used to say, then seen her oot wae a dog that would run anything an after she refused to run a few bunnys we slipped the other dog an some a them uncatchable bunnys were caught Oh yeah completely agree, i try not to be picky realy, sometimes she goes about 10yds and thinks no chance here, i then call get on and she goes, but if the bunny has already started moving, its a bit late! Catch rate changes ie when she ran close cover bunnys its was like 3 runs 1 bunny now its getting to 3/3!
  15. Thanks for your reply mate, There is alot of people that say its soil minerals but with no evidence everyone guessing, over the years there's been many of dogs die after being to ground there or around the specific area, including hounds! So ive heard, and my bitch also had same symptoms. Run down, off food, dihidrated, and lost weight withing 24 hours to a point where if i was to run her 24 hours she wouldn't lose as much! As you say all a myth, unless vets or scientists can prove something! Or anyone experiencing it themselves!
  16. My bitch is nearly four and she has started to not run for something she has less chance of catching, resulting in me getting bigger bags and her not missing as many! Too me i think its a good thing and rather clever!
  17. I've never heard of anything like that before fella, but its a pain having to deal with vets in situations like that,,lost a fine dog pup 8 months earlier this year, knew something wasn't right with him , brought him in , vet checked him, few tablets, sent home, back in few days later, sent home again, and on the third visit , they decided to scan him, scanned him, opened him up, but it was too f*****g late, the gut was twisted for too long and blood supply had been cut off, ,,after that , having to pay for the scan and operation , both of which were performed nearly a week too late,,how the
  18. I while back i nearly lost my bitch to some sort of poisen, which i never ever found out what it was from the vet even after paying the bill for a dog on drip, drugs and kept in for 8 days they didnt think she would of made it, but she did! I now a vets priority is to make sure the dog makes a full recovery but when asked what poisen it was or what it could have been, they couldn't tell me as they didnt know! Soil minerals popped into my head, with the local hunt kennels being up the road about two miles, i heard of an earth they never used near there because of soil minerals and the amou
  19. im with you 100% i was just making a point of cant have the best of both worlds! This is how i work lurcher for rabbit hare deer ( pre ban of course) and much prefer using terrier for foxes (ETC) it gives me more thrill than lamping them! JMO. But i also need a lurcher that can take fox if needed incase the shooter misses or theres a job to be done! Not the best at charlie but gives 100% and complete the job, sometimes with little or no assistance!
  20. Ive seen alot of dogs kill fox most of them heavy types that do the job themselfs without taking much stick at all killing on impact or a 10 second job, those dogs arn't realy the type to be taking deer with! On the other hand ive seen saluki types take deer all day long that catch and hold, not kill. But when on fox either cant do the job fast enough take alot of stick and some dont entertain! Different dogs for different jobs comes in again, there is some out there that can do everything but they are few and far between! So if help is needed thats what im there for
  21. Im not saying there arn't any dogs out there capeable,me for one have seen few! But to get not all bull x EG 1/4 bull 3/4 grey most capeable of taking deer but on the other hand take alot more stick off a big strong dog fox than a 1st cross would and it would be a faster job, on the otherhand not many 1st cross bulls are capeable of catching deer consistanly, unless you have some big fences to slow them up a bit!
  22. We all know there is dogs for jobs, but to have a dog that is consistant on fox without taking much punishment or taking 5 mins to do the job and also have the stamina and speed to take deer week in week out are hard to come by! JMO mate
  23. If hes that good mate i will just leave them too it next time and watch i do enough bending a digging week in week out to be doing it on a weekend aswel! Your on a time limit next time Simpson lad!
