very cheep, , but personally i would sel it quick and make some profit, f****n hate the trucks got no go in them at all, always breaking down with the turbos, electrics, normally altertnator not charging the batterys, the gearing ratio is shite also, loads more things aswell, only good thing is the room inside them, them tires aint much good at all in deep mud just sit on top and spin, talking from alot of experience, alot of digging and alot of phone calls to local lads to pull us out, bad times,

she will hopefully be used mainly for beating, but if she comes good then she will come with me rough shooting/ducking, e,t,c so the get back signal will be a handy command ? ? am not being big headed here but she is very good at basics, i,e, recall, heal work, stop/sit, sit/stay, e,tc, she has picked up alot of little things very quickly such as, throw out my palm of hand in her direction and she will sit, she will also do this with one short blast on the whistle, two short blasts and she on her way back no matter what she doing, once back if am not moving she will sit by my side, if am

Good for you mate .your dog seems to be coming on a a treat.? you say get back what are you asking the dog to do.atb.catcher yea coming on great, and GET BACK i mean when i send her for a bird/dummy and she is only working close in, when the object she is after is further away but she doesnt realise this, so the command GET BACK is used to signal her to get back, more or less, someone else will be able to explain better, am sure i was dropped as a young un, , , atb

thanks for the advice, thats something that i havent been doing, i have been letting her retreive the dummy everytime, i will start to change this now, , i will get her use to this idea 1st before the get back command i thinks, i always show her the palm of my hand for sitting, which she is just as good at doing than the whistle, thanks again,

whats the difference between stamina and fitness ? if a dog struggles on say 10 bunnys one night, , so you decide to run it at the side of the bike for a few days to build its fitness ? or stamina ?

Personally i have never found hunt terriers game(In Ireland)They like yappy dogs that will bolt not kill.I once gave them a pup on the understanding he came back if not suited.A year later he was back to hard not suited. We used him for years after. i was thinking along same lines liam , some hunts pre ban had plenty of terriers about them but regular digging lads had far better dogs and got more proper work without the hunt, must say i am talking a good few years back , but thats how it was, as for ratting if a terrier dont rat it aint a terrier. not true in my oppioin, i ha

hard to say without knowing the dog, and how much work its had, she might just start to slow down but if she fit and well cared for she shouldnt just stop, i wouldnt worry if i was you just give her a break and then carry on as normal,

about a month ago i got given my 1st ever gun dog/ beating dog, , she is a lab x cocker ( accidental mating ) but looks a very tidy little bitch, she is now 7 1/2 month old and doing well with basic training, walking to heal, retrieving dummy which has a pair of partridge wings tied to it, recall whistle, stop whistle, even when hunting up, and is just picking up on hand signals, she will also sit and stay while i walk out and throw the dummy out and not move until told, ( very pleased so far ) took her on her 1st day beating on saturday, as am in charge of the beating line i got to choose w

What time do you go out lamping?
GET THEM OUT (.)(.) replied to jjbel's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
depends what we doing, how we doing it, were we doing it, anything local then we try to leave as late as poss, 11.30ish normally because they well shy around here so try to catch them out in the field abit, never really earlyer than 10.00, just find it pointless, to many eyes about when early on, quite often do all nights leave at 10.30ish, and carry on until next daylight, some times have to swap the dogs around if they start to tire or get sore, then once it breaks daylight have a drive around with pellet guns to see what we can bag, ,
