2 weeks ago i bought my first dslr, the sony a380 and equipped it with a 50mm - 200mm lens also made by sony. spent my first trip photographing all birds i could find with relatively decent results. decided to spend my second trip sat in a local marsh harrier hide. here's the fruits of my labour lol rather dissapointed the quality isnt as crisp as it is on my computer

i 'use' a brittany, he doesnt point, he doesnt work on the whistle, but he does flush everything he can find and as he doesnt really go very far its not a problem, my falcon used to wait on over him and im hoping he will be fine with my goss

i know a trained sparrow-hawk could not kill numerous pheasants safely and this would lead e to believe it is a gos, buzzard etc. but i also know, to take a pigeon with a trained spar is quite a hard task, but wild spars seem to take quite a few. if it is not a mature pheasent then i know of a few sparrowhawks that have taken young pheasents. but in my opinion, a spar could not take a full grown pheasent -
this years bird, i actually got her coming on 2 weeks now and the breeder started dropping her for me four days before collecting. i havent found her actual flying weight but when jumping she comes at a more responsive speed at 2lb 8 3/8 oz. i dont usually find her actual flying weight until a birds going properly on the creance. hope this has clarified it :/

well after reading gilly's thread on his harrises i have decided to do one on my P/r female goshawk who i picked up, untouched for a mere £500 xD her fat weight is 3lb 5oz and her flying weight so far appears to be 2lb 8 3/8oz. i only got her just over a week ago and she is now on the creance, solid around my dog, chickens and is fine around traffic. my original plan was to wake her, but it just isn't necessary. she will be the second bird i have trained this year as i did have a gyrxsaker who, unfortunatly decided to chase pigeons for miles everytime we flew, this became a burden and took al

lol, your best bet for the maggies is an air rifle. i might be picking a male harris up at the weekend for my dad to fly, haven't decided yet

they could, but couldnt do a succesful season on them, they may take the odd 1 or 2

tracking system for falconry? the only ones are telemetry and there distance is dependant on the transmitter, but it wont give you gps vision so to speak? is that what you mean telemetry? if so google marshall radio

i have, had a rabbit and 2 partridge. go on one of the falconry forums i know there is a lot of 'seasoned' falconers in wrexham

depends the rabbit was dirtectly from the fist, but for the partridge he was waiting on, not too high as i have found they can out fly the partridge i'd say about 100 foot up

this is osiris my gyr x saker on his third kill, a rabbit kills no. 1 & 2 were partridge

oh and when you go too gamefairs and you get them thick women walking yorkshire terriers on retractable leads and they're all over the path and people are walking into the lead although the looks they give you when you walk into the lead repetetively and refuse to step over it is class

ok fair enough. but the way i see it, hunting is a sport, therfore we should be sporting and surely, four lurchers chasing one rabbit is not fair. as for your othr point, never have i had 2 rabbits bolt at the same time even if one bolts 1 second later the dogs reaction speed will surely mean they are already reacting to the first rabbit?

i saw a goshawk last week in kirkby very high up XD the first wild one i've ever seen. also, have you noticed there is a lot of wild spar's in liverpool this year?
