The dogs scothunter talks about are in the minority. I worked as a parader for almost 10 years and handled dogs of all shapes sizes and personality and never had a problem with one nipping me. I have had pups brung right out a feild and would run the other way after there run and within 2 months of a weekly parade and coax i was the only 1 they would come to even rather than the owner. I did parade some that would growel at other dogs and yes show agression but 9 times out of ten it was a dog that was in a kennel full of bitchs toward other dogs. I have had 2 that would walk to heal of the lea

how to keep weight on a working whippet
fresh earth replied to eddie jones's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I feed all mine red mills racer with half a lb of cooked mince each per day (hand full or two of red mills) i also feed a sprat or sardine every second day and egg the opposite. Agree a hell of alot of people think whippets are under weight when realisticly the vast majority in fit muscled up condition will show the top of there pins. Alot i know feed nothing but veg and fish during the racing season to keep em lean. The dog might just be needing a good worm out then get it on a decent high quality feed i only ever feed my mature dogs a racing formula never any other dry food. -
I have owned 3 or 4 that have went into charlie in the past i wouldnt and never have run them on fox simply because they will and do get smashed a bit in the proses and i wouldnt want my prize ferreting companion lay up for the sake of a stinking carcus of no use to me. Youd be surprised but every whippet iv owned has been gaging to be slipped on every charlie iv seen on the beem thats why i never work mine from heal no more always on a slip. a decent sized whippet takes less stick but realisticly how do you expect a 20lb whippet to slay a charlie sometimes 1 and a half times its weight withou

Whippet bitch 3rd nite on the lamp ....
fresh earth replied to fresh earth's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Haha dont worry about it shazza my other bitch is working type but tbh i was struggling to find decent working lines with the proper size and breeding at the time i had seen some from the same line run and was happy enough with the ped behind her her parents were worked so she didnt come straight out a show kennel. Tbh the farsce about then being fragile dogs terrified of the weather is just that a farsce. In reality if you wrap a working bred whippet up in fleeces and jackets and have em inside in a scalding house on the couch it will turn its nose up and shiver at the weather just the same a -

Yes weight may play a part but in my opinion weight isnt the main tool a bullx has for its attack on its quarry its.

Whippet bitch 3rd nite on the lamp ....
fresh earth replied to fresh earth's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Tbh mate she is mostly show stuff worth talking about alot of nevedith , pencloe ,milwold , cornstalk and alot of oakbark. Saw some dogs of these lines run and was happy enough but as i say my main reason on her choice was the size of the line and the fact there were no ss or laguna dogs anywhere on her pedigree. A whippet is what you make of it in my eyes regardless its breeding. Yes decent breeding helps alot but if you know what your doing and the speed and initial willingness to please is there your laughing She will hopefully carry on like this and will add to my stock at the end of ne -
Would think it come more along the lines of some x's stalk up some hammer in wouldnt say the use of weight made a difference as in my opinion its down to the way a bullx uses its power its all in the way they strike a good one will rarely take much stick and more use a techneque rather than weight. As for agility id say a collie would sort of course its quarry in a way turning a rabbit simular to a saluki would run a hare.

Whippet bitch 3rd nite on the lamp ....
fresh earth replied to fresh earth's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As the saying go's catcher good things come to those who wait. She is turning out well i chose her mainly as i knew she wouldnt even make 19" her sister is even smaller and one of her brothers is barely half an inch bigger. -
Whippet bitch 3rd nite on the lamp ....
fresh earth replied to fresh earth's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
She's 17 months and has done a bit knocking about mooching and has watched my black bitch for a month. I always do this then start working them alone so she has actualy been worked three times on the beem but has been learning the ropes a bit longer. Wouldnt expect anything less she has had them in the day and has her strike spot on and aint the type that hammers up and over shoots so easy enough wee bitch to work. Cheers for the comments ill work her till the middle of next month then thatl be her till next season as i dont like taking young rabbits or gravid does as it hinders the numbers in -
As above here's my 18" bitch cracking wee dog to work just started her on the lamp last week she has been taking rabbits while mooching and 2 ferreting outings but iv been holding her back due to the freeze. Finaly got her going at the weekend got a couple decent bunnys difficult runs so i decided to let her see some ground with more bunnys to tackle. After about an hour and a half 2 hours i decided she had had enough and brung her home. All in all some decent runs i knew she would pick rabbits up here so she done what i expected of her maybe a dash more. Not the fastest bitch in my kennel but

My sides are killing me here look like laguna lines .... Laguna lines are not mike brown lines. Secondly you say they look like mike bred dogs in what way exactly they are 21" at 9 months so apart from not being breed standard what else are they ? Granted they are nice dogs but the lad come on here dont know how there bred and there in fine nick but the clowns come on here mike's line lol so now any whippet above breed standard is mb lines bloody halarious when i first saw these piks i though whippets deffo not pure whippets to me then the lad confirms non pid whippets now there mb whippets

Sooty sam is long gone and in reality his blood is pritty well diluted down now so what exactly he is contributing to most dogs he apears behind is very little. Also as said where has anyone ever even seen him with a rabbit even lay next to him .... As parkstone states not all working lines have him on there ped and i have actualy been watching a couple of parkstone dogs since the biggining of last year i actualy considered a brindle bitch but decided against it as it would have been a dog id have been after a smaller more compact faster type of whippet exactly how to me a whippet should b

lucky number sleven about the hit man who was sent to kill a kids father for gambling a rigged horse race he didnt kill the son and raised him amazing film ..... Cansas city shuffle quality. Fighting films would be either undisputed redemption 3 or never back down but blood sport was my favourate from the age of about 5 lol . A few of will smiths are quite a good watch seven pound is spot on. Also love the lord of the rings . As said could go on all day

Depends what you mean ... I have owned whippets and greyhounds all my life and with the greyhounds all were exactly what they were meant to be at the end of the day if you buy a dog bred the right way the rest is upto you. As for whippets out of a dozen or so 4 have been exactly what i wanted and id pay a fortune for 3 the three that have passed. The real deal in my eyes is something that turns out how it was meant to if you buy a well bred dog and bring it one properly there is no reason why they wont all be capable and THE REAL DEAL but yes there will always be one or two that stand out

think it will look worse in a running dog due to the length and shape of there legs
-
Dont think it will come to that jenna as i say a mate of mines cocker was the same and it was fine by the time he was a year old but in a running dog it could affect there over all ability so you need to consider these options now before wasting 12 months rearing a pup to then have to start from scratch again with another thus taking 2 years to get to the initial 12 month stage of a useable dog. Can no one else remember that dog the other year just seems funny to me that it was also a saluki highbrid could it be a fault in some of the saluki genes ?
-
Cut and heal is spot on one of the best ointments iv ever used id lay the dog up a fourtnight with no running at all as id expect it to keep reopening with any less than that of.
-
Was it not just last year a saluki highbrid had this problem on here last year and someone had been trying to stud him out after it had corrected itself ?? mind there was piks of it a party colour with a fair bit white i think Good on you for keeping hold of em and giving em a try a mates cocker had same problem and he is a fine strong dog now but to be fare i wouldnt be keeping on a coursing dog with problems decent ones are hard enough to keep from injurys. Sure me mates cocker was fine by 6 or 7 months was a sid to see as he was always falling over imself.
-
Sad to hear this donny but i wouldnt be surprised if he sold it the twat , Bottom line is a terrier pup will always piss about play fighting with other dogs what bloody pup wouldnt ? it dont take much to get the dog in line if it were any pup of mine he would be getting a hard kick up the F**kin arse !

Cheers lurchers she is about the best iv had in and her first litter have shown there just as good. She aint scared to get stuck in and has the scars on her mush to show it i can run her in any conditions on any ground and she never realy has any trouble she's even caught a couple of rabbits on a car park while out for a walk with the girl , God only knows how she's never ben lay up more than a week .

What a question to ask as soon as you join the site why is it not the make up any of the other breeds.... Im sure its comon sense whats in the make up of a bullx .... technicly any bulldog, bullterrier or bullmastif over a greyhound is a bull x.

Nice big beast judge agree theres no need for one over here unless on a farm or yard
