Fished the swellies a lot - soft plastics a good bet , as mentioned . I have caught successfully with white and white/blue sidewinders fished risky close to bottom [fishing the swellies is risky!] , i use braid as i find the current doesn't influence as much . I have persevered with a copper toby to no avail [its supposed to be good]. Keep at it - its not an easy place to catch but rewarding when it happens, i have had a handful of magical sessions over the years.

The guy who bought this dog may be a novice , i dont think calling him a div will help , we all started on the learning curve somwhere, maybe some help and advice on how to get the dog started would benefit.

What a sensible reply. Thanks

What i meant was that - in my opinion [in my eyes {no on else can see through these}] Pure bull breeds dont look like working dogs.[it is my opinion and no on else will understand - i cant explain either] but i think that i have answered [truthfully] the original Q.

Could you expand on that HEDS? I'm not sure I follow Cant belive this Q has come from a Mod, anyways heres the answer - Just my opinion [Which is what the original thread question is about]

Mate , the words - pigeons in barns, and - rabbits at 50yds. dont equate very well in my mind . Decide what you want - rabbit at 50 yds [you need some power] pigeons in barns [you dont need any] More info on what exactly your after would be good [at the moment i think your asking for a 4x4 small family car pickup truck with the handling of a lotus and top speed of 170mph] -
Cracking question! i know nothing about full bulls, and after reading 5 pages of cachu i still know nothing about full bulls! If you want to know what my opinion of full bulls is - They dont look like a working dog.

Tied flies for years , have a whip finish tool sitting redundant in the box - have attempted the use many times but just forget. Much better and easier by hand.

The time will come when we will have to stop using lead - who you vote for and what the BASC do wont make any difference.

Dont know if im doing right but i always have the rifle in a sleeve and out of sight in the car. Have the bolt and bullets in my pocket. I dont see what more i can do without going OTT.

Cheers guys , I am using a multi catch trap - this is what prompted me to think about leaving it alone for a few days, otherwise why would you need a trap that catches more than one? Do people get big catches in these traps in a short period? Anyways - the rat is dead as a dodo , have rebaited with some peanut butter and hoping for the best! Thanks Again

Hi Have been sifting through the forums - but cant seem to find the info im looking for. I have a rat problem in the back yard , where i keep chickens and also kennel the dogs. I have had a cage trap near a run for about two weeks now baited with dog buiscuits and peanut butter. Success at last - yesterday i caught a fully grown rat. Do i keep the rat in the trap for a few days? [thought it might act as a decoy?] although i fully understand there are implications regarding the wellbeing of the poor little rat[who has been hammering my chicken food for the past six weeks] Or , Dispose of

Interesting thread - i applied for .223 to shoot foxes , my permissions were fine with plenty of ideal land. My local force denied me a 223 and recomended a .22 - i reminded them that i needed a large round for shooting foxes. They rang me back and offered me a choice of .22 or .17hmr [as this was my first licence] i took a hmr thinking that this police force are insane ! shot loads of rabbits with it and got really accurate , found that it is good for fox at about 100yds have dropped dead every one i shot at. still agree that .17hmr is not an ideal fox round but does work with a degree of car

ill tell you one thing with a world class dog [figure of speech ] ,it means you dont have to do a 9to5 to get by .how many on here can say that , So if you dont work 9-5, you have a world class dog , cool Ok hats off mate - i guess that only you can say that!! you are 2 good! Next time i bring on a pup , ill start him early to see if i can teach it to pay the mortgage for me.
-
What does a dog have to do to be world class? [i havent heard about this 'world class' thing] I have no views on the starting young bit - just that i dont see the point.

Have to disagree slightly - Wild brown trout spawn in rivers running in to the lakes , most of the fry will then drop down in to the lake and many of these will be eaten by other fish , and birds. However the ones that remain will grow and stay in the lake. So a lake does not have to be stocked to have fish in! - In wales, ireland , scotland and england there are hundreds of lakes [mostly highland] that have never been stocked , and are packed with fish. As long as we ensure healthy and accessible habitat for the fish to spawn and fry to develop , the Wild Brownie will survive. I have alwa

Have been looking at a 20g 3" Mag Investarm O/U. Details punched into barrels are as follows : Hard Chrome , PSF . FNL . [bF] There is also a shield type mark , and also the serial no. I would like to know if the gun is proofed to take steel. Also what is the 'steelproof' mark that gun buyers should be looking for? Any info is good info. cheers H

New approach to gaining permission...
HEDS replied to silentshot1's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Good idea , good benefit to all involved [apart from the wabbits] and gives that extra reason for the landlord to give permission. Good Luck! -
Why is it youngsters dont know basic wood working skills
HEDS replied to Catcher 1's topic in General Talk
I think its down to two thngs - 1, this crazy health and safety culture we live in , loads of kids are not given the chance at home to build treehouses and gokarts any more . When i was a kid thats all we used to do! 2 - the National Curriculum , the subject [design and technology] is topheavy with paperwork of the wrong kind. Kids are taught how to design - but adequate time is not spent teaching the skills needed to build. I think that 'woodwork' and 'metalwork' as subjects need to come back . Also just for reference - this is worth a look -
along comes yaucht with 4 overgreedy speargunners anchor up for two weeks ,,when they fuc off theres plenty little fish left and fuc all else for no one else, schools of jacks, snapper ,grouper gone is that sport? or slaughter? This happens in hunting and fishing all the time - lads completely wipe out areas of rabbits because theyre greedy, but you wouldnt blame the dog for that. So spearing shouldnt be blamed for wiping the sea clean - its the doing of the 4 guys behind the guns.

Jeeezzz - what a negative attitude, to something you obviusly know very little about. I fish with my own built gun - relatively easy to build, and also it adds to the experience ,shooting a fish for supper with your own gun is worth doing. It is a very complex method of fishing [i practice every kind of fishing freshwater and sea] and this is the most rewarding. There is so much more to it than buying a gun and jumping in !! also spearfishing is probably the best way to obtain your fish - no bait , no waste [dont reel in undersized fish] If you would really like some sound advice from people
