here here! I'm the same, 10 mile bike ride and I'm bolloxed......won't do us any harm though. I give mine a good swim for 20 mins or so half way round to knacker her out a bit and to give me a rest.

fcuktheban did a good job on this guys thread - http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/215031-looking-for-a-pitt-ireland/ ....there should be more of this. I've seen a few people that have been accused of being peddlars and when you look at their topics virtually every topic they've ever done is either dog wanted or dog for sale, those people should be banned.

When he checks out warrens keep your eye on his body language. If he just has a quick glance and shows no interest then there's probably nothing down there, if he has a good old sniff and ears cock forward, or he stays for a bit longer, put dog on slip and enter ferret (assuming the dog's OK with them), try and position him so if something bolts you can slip him near to the rabbit and give him a chance. Sooner or later he'll get the idea and you can leave him to his own devices to wait for the bolters. Or better still get a longnet so he can pin them as they get caught in the net. Ma

Is that the dog in the pic? doesn't look too heavily built so it might do, you never know. I'm just bringing on my first lurcher now so am pretty new to working dogs but when I was younger I used to go ferreting and mooching with my uncle and his dog. He had a pointer x shepherd that was shorter and slightly more heavily built than your dog. That dog used to catch them in cover but he used to just plough through even the thickest of brambles. If the rabbit broke free of the cover it would leave him for dead though, I would say out of all the rabbits he chased he'd lose probably 90% of the

bit of info... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myxomatosis

it was introduced by farmers in the 50s (I think) to reduce the rabbit population. Not sure if it's passed on by fleas or just bacteria but it's not harmful to any other species apart from rabbits and it won't do your ferrets (or dogs) any harm eating a rabbit with mixi.

Ferret demolished neighbours cat....
rob190364 replied to shoota matt's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I had something similar except mine did not kill the cat. Woke up one night to an almighty racket looked out and in the court was a cat being ragged to fook by two 1kg plus hobs and three jills I ran downstairs and out side and the cat managed to escape up the fencing panel with one of the hobs attached to it's arse end. Checked the ferrets over not a mark on them so was very lucky. but in my stupidity I never used to shut them in at night prefering to give them free rein after that I didn't take the chance. One of the same hobs got hold of my old neighbours large "staff" the sire of my bitch -

I was in bed once and heard an almight commotion downstairs, legged it down and my front door had been kicked open, as I glanced into the living room I couldn't believe was I was seeing. A burgular had broken in and one of my goldfish has given an almight suck and pulled the burgular into the fish tank. As one fish held him the other fish were going up to the surface and blowing air into him so he kept floating to the surface and then sinking again like one of them divers you connect to the air pump. I manage to drag him out and use a break stick to get the fish off. The only injury was to -

Summary - matt has realised he's been a tit and has created a new account pretending to be a mate in order to backtrack with yet another made up story. Conclusion - he looks an even bigger tit and is now extremely boring! It's so obvious it's ridiculous! -
Ah right, that's interesting....I just assumed they'd be easier on the lamp. The only problem is we never seem to see them during the day apart from in dense undergrowth, I'll have to see if we come across any during the daytime out in the open. We'll be wandering quite far a field though so I'm sure we'll get our chances

Yeah the strike is what she needs to perfect, she's only a small dog so it won't be an issue turning....when she's running with other lurchers and one is chasing her she out turns the bigger dogs easily. She just doesn't seem to expect quarry to turn when chasing so overshoots most of the time, a case of practice makes perfect I reckon. I'll be spending most of this season hammering the bunnys and when opportunities present themselves like they did the other day then I'll give her the opportunity to see what she can do.

Good write up pal, and nice pics. I always like the pics when the rabble get the carcass at the end. The whippet's looking in fine shape
