  1. feck me mate, and to think I was worried when I had to fess up about some speeding convictions!!!
  2. hammer? not much. we had one that was a bit tired and then were given another.
  3. I just went for a 2nd hand PCP after "some" years of knocking magpies over with a £30 mail order .177 baikal with a £10 scope! (yes it was a while ago when I got it!) it was the reduced noise and the extended range I got it for. (baikal was only useful up to about 25yds if I am honest and sounded like a car door slamming) I got a second hand Falcon FN19 with all the kit, pump, pellets, AirArms moderator, targets, 3-10x44 IR scope and slip for £350. It is really simple to strip (essential IMO) very quiet (more so now with some tweaks) shorter barrel than some(required) much lighter
  4. well done OP watch this space though. it is only a matter of time before the powers that be WILL INSIST that FAC owners have some reconised training qualification. I was surprised how many people on mine failed the shooting. for my mind I couldnt give a toss if I failed to recognise a Chinese Water deer male vs female, given that I live in Scotland and have never seen one let alone shot at one! what bothered me is that a couple of people on the course aced the exam but couldn't put 3 shots in a very large bull at 100yds and less. I would like to see more shooting tests in these
  5. I have one and never use it. I am lucky though, I have a .22lr and a .17HMR which makes the .22wmr redundant. it will go on your FAC as .22WMR and you will have no problems justifying it for vermin control (it just ownt have foxes added as your primary reason unless you have a VERY friendly firearms officer!) it is on mine under the same justification as the .22lr. I have never needed the extra energy the magnum delivers and the range increase over the .22lr HV doesnt justify the means in this country IMO. In the US they love this round. but when you are shooting a 4kg ground hog th
  6. do you plan to shoot any other large game? .270 is a great rifle for red deer and I cant think of any foxes that got up after being hit.....
  7. will never happen. no UK Police force will authorize either of those calibres if fox control is given as primary reason for owning. (that is not to say you cant shoot them with those but that is a different story altogether!) If you have land to shoot on and foxes to control but have no shot any of them you need to get some experience with someone who has. 22-250 or 223 are the loads of choice by most fox shooters but I would suggest you will struggle to get an FAC without some history at least. contact some local guys, sure most people will let you come out with them
  8. The PES I have is not really "strippable" but you can unscrew the centre section from the tube with the baffles. I can get quite dirty inside which gums up the threads and makes the already quite tight fit even tighter. I just unscrew it and wipe it out with tissue paper, light coating of WD or similar, spot on the muzzle threads (male and female) and you are fine. They are also stainless steel IIRC so whilst having it sit in the cupboard damp is not ideal it is not a major issue, more likely to transfer moisture to the rifle if still fitted.
  9. .22 is a very dirty round, can make semi autos jam and misfire without regular stripping. grew up with a semi auto, i now have a bolt action which is more accurate, much quieter and doesnt need stripping. you never really need to fire that second shot that much faster if the first one goes in the right place anyway!
  10. you can shoot foxes with whatever calibre you feel is appropriate. If you are out shooting Cape Buffalo on your private game reserve in kent and charlie pops up you can happily take him down with your rigby .416. likewise if bagging bunnies with a .22LR and Mr Fox pops his head out of a hole 20 feet away, feel free to ventilate him. "Calibres authorised should be powerful enough to ensure a clean kill of the quarry species concerned." The law comes into effect when it dictates "primary reason" for ownership. You would be well advised to read the statutory guidance issued to al
  11. I have one silencer for .22lr, .22HMR and .17hmr/M2. works a charm. was a bit off with my numbers, its flat but not that flat. 100yds=0 200yds= -8" I think meant to say that between 75 and 175yds the hmr is only just over an inch above and below when zeroed at 120-130. for all intents and purposes that is negligible its more like 5-6" holdover at that range.
  12. unless your sunnies are made from toughened glass they are not going to save you from a supersonic piece of barrel shrapnel!
  13. I have all three calibres, in fact I also have the .17M2 (shorter version of the .17HMR) i use the .22lr for anything I want to eat or need to shoot with a silencer (for more chance of shooting as well as noise disturbance reasons) I shot a rabbit at 115 yds with a subsonic .22 once, but at that range you are really putting faith in your own ballistics knowledge. I was zeroed at 70yds and was aiming 6" above the bunny's head! it took so long to get there you can almost see the bullet! It has a rainbow trajectory and in my opinion too limited a bullet choice in subsonic but is very versa
  14. I have a PES. very well made, simple design with better than average materials. I think they make them in NZ, company that makes them aslo does custom work for the F1 teams. not cheap but works extremely well. smaller than the normal overbarrel reflex. they do a Titanium one as well now if you want some real bling! got it through steve kershaw in Howden, fitted it to the rifle and cuts the rear inner section of the moderator to exactly match the barrel.
