  1. My FEO wants a letter from any other FAC holder to say they think I'm safe. I don't have much experiece to speak of (but I think I know my stuff) and they don't do mentoring clauses. Is this normal? Seeing him on Friday. Cheers, Halam
  2. A bit of fun http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/wildlife/7356009/Fowl-play-hens-and-cockerel-peck-fox-to-death.html Watch out for Hunter killed by Bunnies on 1st April Halam
  3. I know more about supersonic aircraft and rocket flight than bullets but this is my thought: The distance around the bullet is greater than the length of the bullet so the air has to move faster than the bullet to get out of its way and close up behind it. So even if the bullet is not supersonic the airflow around it can be. You need slower subs to properly clear the speed of sound. Halam
  4. Funny coincidence I was reading it today. I thought there is also an ACPO document but cant find it, is there such a thing or is it my imagination? Cheers, Halam
  5. Roumer has it competition ammo is subsonic because the transiton from supersonic to subsonic affects accuracy. However this effect is marginal for the hunting point of view and in competition you know the range and zero accordingly. Shooting live quary the range is less certain so a flatter flying bullett with less drop can be placed more precisely which offsets the slight loss of repeatability. You must try a few and find what works in your rifle, that sems to be the key to accuracy at any velocity. H
  6. I ordered one and it came next day. What does a hare sound like? H
  7. A high velocity hollowpoint would be a good choice. You will need to experiment to find which is most accurate as every gun is differant and finding what works with your rifle overrides what brand others say is good. In case your looking at user rifles you should know that CZ used to be called Bruno (named after the place - its not an abbreviation). You will probably need someone to take you shooting a few times to satify the Police you have the knowlege to be safe. H
  8. 22LR cheeper to feed but 17HMR will give you the range at 3-5 times the cost per shot. For both of them you will have to learn to judge distance and the corresponding drop, limit yourself to about 70 and 120 yards and you can aim dead on. 22LR can be near silent with a moderator, 17HMR can have its noise reduced but supersonic bullets always make a crack. Both are adequate for fox at shorter ranges. To get a licence you need land approved for the calibre, see the pinned articles on firearms licences for more detail. Good luck H
  9. One reviewer says the faxcall UK caller attracts rabbits, can that be true? H
  10. Wow that was alively debate but some good info. Cheers mate.Gerald. Oh I hadn'r actualy read it myself yet! H
  11. Try this thread: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=128626 H
  12. Try the forum for reloading: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showforum=54 I'll be interested to follow the discussion as I also feel the need for speed. H
  13. I think I have learned for this that I should expect to match my air rifle shooting standard with rimfire without having to learn to shoot again from scratch. Bet we will see. The idea that faster internal balistics means smaller errors sounds good but I wander if I'm now acustomed to the slower internal balistics of the s200. Cant wait to find out! H
  14. Thi is an old thred now but for anyone searching old posts you will find some reivews here: http://www.highlandsports.com.au/productreviews.aspx H
  15. Just found 2 reviews here and see on eon the 22 as well: http://www.highlandsports.com.au/productreviews.aspx H
  16. Thanks Guys, I'll just keep practicing wiht the S200 till I get an FAC - then I'll be able to answer my own question. Cheers, H
  17. If you are talking about a conventional, run of the mill 12ft lb air rifle then 50 yards is pushing your luck. Accuracy wise you should get touching shots with a HMR, and close to that with a .22lr at 50 yards!! This was 100 yards on a good day for me with HMR! Thanks Deker, but I don't seem to have asked the questin quite right. Can I expect to shoot just as well with a firearm as I do with a air Rifle? Or better? Or worse? So I guess I'm asking if they are differant skills. Cheers, Halam
  18. Hello Chaps, Yet another question as I eagerly wait for the FEO to hear from the Doctor if I'm insane and a danger to allow out on a full moon. If I can shoot say a 4 inch group at 50 meters offhand with an air rifle, should I expect to be able to do the same with LR or HMR or are Firearms a whole new shooting experience? Cheers, Halam
  19. Has anyone seen any velocity or trajectory data on the even smaller HMR's? There must come a point where less is - erm - less. Cheers, Halam
  20. Hay Guys, (dont we get any girls on here?) I've read that 22LR barrels last and last because of the soft bullets and low pressures. Is the same tue of HMR with its higher pressures and copper cased bullets? How do you know if a barrel is worn out anyway? Cheers, Halam
  21. Ho-hum. Thick as very thick things. Do we have to explain it or just give up? I rowed a horse onece, it came with very long oars....
  22. Lots of us start with an air rifle where you can start a few years earlier if you have somewhere to shoot and/or supervision of an over 21 year old , here is a summary: http://www.cambs.police.uk/help/firearms/young.asp Cheers, H
  23. You may have been joking but according to this: in at least one state gun ownership is mandatoryH
  24. I didn't want to reviel your secret identity! Cheers, H
  25. I had a brief chat by PM with another member who has one and he said he had had no problems. Certanly the price is tempting but not a whole lot cheeper than some of the used CZs that come up. I want to know if the trigger is any good and can it be fettled? Check it feeds reliably with both 17 and 20 grain ammo then you pay your money and take your choice. Cheers, H
