My dogs are always in the wars. Just check theres nothing lodged in the cut. Bathe it wit salt water or antibacteria spray on it. The dog will keep on top of it lickin it clean. It wil be ok just dont rush back into running her. Few days shel seem normal shel be ok

Alot of ppl recommend 11-12th day -
2 old wives tales that i have been told - 1. When u catch a chicken place its beak on the floor an draw a straight line in front of it, the chicken will lay there an not move - i have actually tried this one an it does work. 2. If u drop a white hanky in front of a rabbit it wont move - that i haven yet tried as iv never got close enough lol any others?
-
Iv been told when you buy new snares to dip or rub them into somethin as it gives off a diff smell to the rabbits an lessen your chances of catchin. I have seen the warrener boil parsley an have also heard about dippin the snare into vinegar, whether it works or not i dont know. Do u put them straight out or soak them first?

My partner read a book before about how a spaniel, ferret an harris hawk work together. Just wanted to see if ppl have any opinions on using a hawk wit their dog?
-
Totally understand what ur saying. I dont know nothin about the dogs passed an thats harder as u dont know what work or training has been done wit him. I think hes been left to do his own thing without any discipline and thats why he doesnt listen on times. Hes getting a bit better slowly but it has to be on him consistent as he seems for forget quite quickly on what he shouldn be doing. Alot of one on one is needed wit this dog an hopefully wit alot of time an effort put into him over the next few months id like to see him spot on. Ill let u know how he gets off.

What benefits are added if your bring a bird of prey into your hunting team?

Going back a few weeks a topic came up in a conversation about working terriers. 1 of the boys can be argumentative at times reckons that - a dog wit kc papers cant be worked? And also dogs from non working lines wont work? What do u think?

5 diffrent groups lamping one feild
MissRhianL replied to maitland93's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Its the same in my valley. I live right next to a few fields which are more or less ankle snapers an a rugby pitch an there was 13 kids out 1 night wit 9 lurchers. They walk down to the end of the valley an back up. It is image with some of them. They breedin one of the dogs all the time or swapping them wit a guy from Cardiff. Its good that they are off the streets an not hangin about so cant fault them in that way but certain dogs in the wrong hands can be dangerous an thats where genuine hunts people get a reputation from. -
For who asked iv had him 6wks. I take him out walkin around sheep on the lead he dont look at them or pull for them soon as hes off he sees one hes gone, i call him an completely ignores me so after the 1st time he did that, he doesnt go off the lead around sheep an most certainly wont run him in fields where there are sheep too. It is a pain in the ass but i cant chance him. Yday was a bit improvement wit his recall an had him walkin by my side without the lead, but it seems hes a completely diff dog in the night. I hope i can get him to break out of it but i think its gonna be a long journey
-
its not about him knowin that hes having the upper hand with me, many dogs i know ppl have tried breakin them to stock an it just cant be done wit some dogs unfortunately. Ppl make it sound so easy typing tellin ppl what to do but sorry puttin it into practise is another matter, we have all been there but some ppl r too proud to say that their dog has faults an im more than happy to tell ppl mine as some ppl can relate to the same problems that im having. Ppl will try several methods before they break which one works for their dog, but it dont mean that 1 thing he tried an succeeded in will wo

I dont think hes done as much lamping as the boy said he has. Iv taken his diggin an hes fine. Iv noticed if im out wit a gun or sling he will walk by ur side without a lead an if u take a shot at somethin he will run in the direction u shot at has a quick look if no quarry is at the end he comes straight back waitin for the next shot, so i know he can do it he just plays up now an again thinkin that he can find things if he has a wander an smashes thru hedges. Its really frustrating sometimes all i ask of a dog is to listen when called back an he tends to do it on his own accord? Some days i

Get your self a shock collar and the dog will be sorted in a few weeks. thats the problem that solution has been tried an hes not afraid of the shock collar hes quite happy to wear it lol he just shruggs it off

These passed few times that i have been out lamping with a dog that i got given seems to be turning me away from hunting dogs all together. 3x good things about him - 1. He gets on great an runs well wit my other dog. 2. Hes quite quick 3. He does all quarry an does his job quietly. Hes just turned 4yrs old hes a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 bull. He can be quite stubborn at times wit callin him back, i cant really trust him walkin him off a lead really incase there is sheep up the mountain or other dogs about as hes very choosy wit who he wont go for. The only thing thats startin to piss me off is we go
