We are easy pickings for Islam for the very reason that we try and apply our western kindness and sense of reason to our dealings with them……as a group, these people harbour no such weakness (or virtue depending on how you see it) These people find us disgusting, bottom line, if they could wipe us out and make the whole world Islamic they would…..without a second thought ! The point you are missing is, the Serbs didn’t suddenly wake up one morning and decide to wipe these people out……as you say, this is 400 years of living with these people and they decided the only answer was slaughter them ! I was in the tip this morning, it’s stacked to the rafters inside with rubbish. I was talking to the bloke in there and asking him why is was so full and where’s it get taken. He said some go’s to landfill via trucks, some then go’s via trucks to barges and is shipped to Europe where it is sorted again and then finally what’s left is shipped to……..China ! There’s where your green, recycling tax is going…….an incinerator in my yard would be better for the environment ! However, that’s been made illegal !

This thread shows the conundrum imho, an all encompassing religious ideology flys 3 jet liners full of our own people into packed buildings full of more of our own people, they kill thousands. I think in its simplest form mate it comes down to this, they were given an ultimatum to give up Bin Laden and his sympathisers and they chose not to…..so we rinsed the gaff. I wouldn’t be up on the history of geo-political success or failure that could be attributed to all the military actions since the war mate, I think some thing simply feel “right” and some things don’t. I believe the military operate within a set of rules and boundaries but they are also at the mercy of public opinion……sometimes we simply don’t have the stomach for it as people. I hear you mate, I really do. Its moving into a whole other conversation really but I have always said we don’t understand these people. America think everyone wants to be like America and they don’t, these people are tribal and, as has always been the case, the bloke with the biggest stick is in charge…..it works for them, it’s in their nature and their culture. I think you always have to be careful to separate the political from the military in these conversations. I also think between the first gulf war and the second & Afghanistan we are talking about totally different conflicts. The first was a big bully neighbour attacking its smaller oil producing bloke next door and we went and helped them…..there’s good will, oil and helping someone all rolled into the bargain there……fairly simple stuff. To be fair, hauling soldiers into court to placate terrorists is a fairly recent turnout (25 years ish) and we elected the people doing it. Rules and a sense or right and wrong are what separate our professional soldiers from these utter animals so again, I don’t think that’s worth talking about.
