To put it another way, we are pretty dour unexcitable people, not exactly world renowned for our positivity whereas Americans seem to be extremely positive, excitable people who all love to get behind something. It seems, and I could be wrong, that when it comes to military service you have a sense of “doing it for America” which is why I asked you if you found it strange that so many lads on this thread were a bit “The country can go f**k itself” Hope that clears it up for you

Seeing as you and Gnasher (and probably a couple of others) have been door men, you must have seen some sights in you time with birds out of control ? I know the old argument about hitting birds and all that but if a bird is acting like a bloke surely all the rules go out the window ? Pal of mine ended up having a few days in Snaresbrook after a bird tried to bottle him across the head at the bar one night and he laid her out with a right cross ! Lol In those circumstances I personally think he was well within his rights.

If you are into this stuff, you will find parallel after parallel between the methods employed by the Nazi regime and the methods being employed today by our own governments. State rules on Speech, literature, art, broadcast and film, state monitoring, checkpoints, media created to reinforce “the message”, a skint economy turning to conflict as a means of diversion and production, using those conflicts to grab land……it’s all there in plain sight.

My old man would never buy a poppy. He volunteered at 16 in 1936, was sent over with the ill prepared BEF to France, got left behind like many others to fight rearguard while lads got off the beach at Dunkirk and was captured. Spent 5 years in Lamsdorf and at the end, along with all those other lads, was forced to do what is now known as the Long March or Death March. Walked a 1000km to Germany in the coldest winter for decades in January 1945 and was eventually picked by the Americans. Like all of you, my immediate ancestors all fought….my grandad in WW1……my dad, 5 of my uncles, my mums dad in WW2. My mums 2 older sisters were land army girls. I went to join myself as a junior but an extremely bad (but true) letter from my head of year in school telling them I’d been expelled and everything leading up to it put pay to that. By the time I was 18 I was too busy earning a living and generally having a good time but I still harboured feelings of deep patriotism and can hand on heart say I’d not have thought twice if it had come to a call up…….but no more, I have b

For me it’s more than that too, I feel no affiliation to half the people I was meeting towards the end either…..they seem to have fully bought into that nightmare. Stand back and let it run to its natural conclusion which is to wither and die like all the places and people and cultures they promote have withered and died.

That’s a right bit of crack that is, all over that. Im sure most lads would want to be a bit more “UK” about it with regards to dogs and how many dogs etc but you can’t knock it, who wouldn’t love to be out at that job. That last slip was gigantic !……makes you think what some of the decent dogs we have seen in our time at home could become on land like that in those circumstances.

Fair shout mate, but I’d counter by saying that’s not quiet an honest appraisal of our former and current situation either is it ? We wasn’t sourcing ships or steel or small metal parts or motorcycles or air craft or cars or trucks or clothing or coal or oil or radio antenna or bricks or tunic buttons or zips or boots from other places was we?…..we made all that ourselves, we had the skills and the means of production which we no longer have. Like they gutted our industry they also gutted our youth…..we “outsourced” a couple of generations and imported the 3rd world instead. That is definitely coming back to bite us, that’s not even up for discussion.
