I used to fish a reservoir for trout at night (was'nt a member of the very expensive angling club) - any way I'd be there until dawn broke with my bubble and fly then do a circuit of the lake with my terrier and my god the mink were friggin everywhere, bolting up trees and into the water . The dog missed more than he caught but we nearly always got a couple. One memory
I do have though is when the dog caught one he had to be clever or the mink would turn in his mouth and get a bite in before he was killed - and they do bite pretty hard.
Just been out for a stroll with the pup - round the outskirts of the local landfill.
The little fella was taking in the sights (and the smells ) with great interest.
To be honest I didnt want to flush any rats out for him as he's way too young yet but he marked a piece of corrugated iron in the grass next to the track - tail going, and getting very excited - so I flipped it over and about half a dozen mice scattered in all directions. T o cut a long story short, the pup shot after the only one which tried to run across the track and I thought he'd lost it in the grass on the other side until
I'm sorry - Ive got to say it ( and I'm surprised no-one else has ) Valerio - you are full of SHIT - I have seen a fox turn over the hardest of terriers - I have dug down and found big hard terrers at a loss what to do with a canny fox in a rocky place - and getting a kicking into the bargain.
Ok Badger is another proposition but fox is all we've got right now and if my pup can kill a fox before I get to him - Ill be happy.
ps - wrote this reply at 1.30 am - just in from pub so forgive any poor grammar or extreme views as I was vwery drunk at the time.......
There was a recent cientific study of fox's which found that British fox's were generally bigger and heavier than fox's on the continent.
Whats more Italian fox's are probably as brave as Italian people.........
This dog made me a small fortune at the bookies back then - best Grew I ever saw.
Does anyone remember Scurlogue Champ - always looked out of it but came strong at the finish.
I had a Bedlington nearly 20 years ago who killed every cat in the neighborhood - got me in a load of trouble, the police were involved but didnt prosecute me as they all met their maker in my garden. Cat lovers will tell you that their moggy is a match for a dog but once a dog learns the knack of
dispatching one its all over pretty quick. Some of those big feral toms can look after themselves though...........
Yeah, stupid indeed.
But allowing thousands of Poles,Romainians, and every other fecker who wants to live here in a free council house and paid benefits that they wouldnt be entitled to even in their own country - thats not stupid at all is it?
Bedlington fanciers may be interested in these pics of my pup Spike - 14 weeks old, obviously working him is a long way off but he is shaping up well - uses his nose well and takes no shit even at this age. Time will tell!
God I'm such a sad b*****d - I saved that pic of the fox then enlarged it - just to satisfy my curiosity. :11:
Would I b right in thinking that Milly is your favourite dog Jack?
Where I live there seems to be an inordinate amount of grey squirrels, they are in the gardens and the local park is infested with them.
I have a young terrier pup who is already showing an interest in scenting and chasing them but is this illegal under the hunting act. What if he accidently ,by chance catches one one day as I'm walking through the park - would I be breaking the law? surely they are classed as vermin as I know its illegal to release one back into the wild thats been caught alive.
I wonder if someone could give me some info on squirrel trapping in the UK.
First of all - is it legal? and if so can anyone reccomend a catch alive trap?
n. b - I'm reffering to grey sqiurrels not our native reds.
