Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair

Tom, We always like feedback AND try to portray what is on accurately. What bit did you think was 'hyped up'. To put Ballywalter into perspective - when BASC cancelled their Fair here in late January/early February last year we had a little over two months to organise a one day Fair which went well. This year we moved it up to 2 days and increased all facets of it including competitions, attractions, stand nos etc. However it is difficult to grow a fair in just over a year and that is why we gave a FREE ticket to Shanes Castle, Ireland's Largest Game Fair and in effect gave vis -
Bigliks, I've been to Selby and quite a few of the others. Largest would be CLA or Midland but in my opinion one of the best to visit for access, goodrange of products and one that you can get round in one day is the Scottish Fair at Scone. As someone else said the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle, Antrim 25th & 26th is the largest Irish Fair closely followed by the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr Castle in the ROI. Both are organised in beautiful traditional venues with exzcellent competitions and a very friendly welcome but both are smaller than the major UK fairs. Our

Ballywalter tomorrow then shanes class After being at Ballywalter today, anyone that could call this a big game fair is having a laugh. I was at it last year and was not for going back but with all the hype on these forums about it being second only to Shanes Castle I decided to go again. We were round the show in just over an hour, the main arena was dead, the family were bored senseless and the wife never seen as bad an arts & crafts area at any show...her words. Will not be back. Lets hope Moira is a lot better than this, though it wouldn't be hard. You must have been spr

Deidre McCoy has range of photos. Will post full results later today. John Humphries with China won the under 23" and overall. Young lad who I don't know won the Over 23" with I think a dog that hasn't done much before. Both go through to the Master McGrath Final at Shanes on the 25th June. Some close racing ( including the final between the two dogs) and there are still plenty of chances to qualify including at Dessie Mackens show this w/e and the Mourne & Neilston Shows on the 15th May. Albertj any idea where i could see photos of the showing dogs two guys where pics but didnt fi -

A great day at Ballywalter Game fair

Thanks - the terrier , lurcher & WHIPPET crowd - often criticised and demonised and banished to the sidelines or outskirts of fairs proved yeaterday that they deserve to be an integral part of the fair. Lord Dunleath came down to watch the racing and said he was impressed by the sportsmanship being displayed and the obvious enthusiasm being displayed by the handlers for their sport and their dogs. I managed to take in some of the showing and most of the racing I have to say what impressed me most was the hard condition of the obviously well cared for dogs and the very sporting atmosp -

Johnny, Hope your show went well and the prizes made their way to you in time. We had an unbelievable turnout at Ballywalter and as it ran on to two hours after the closing time of the fair I was able to watch most of the racing. Looking forward to getting dtails of your qualifiers for the Master Mc Grath final at Shanes Castle and the Five Nations International Lurcher Championship at Birr - also your other prize winners. If we are to make the next issue of Irish Countrysports and Country Life, I need your results/photos by the end of the week. Albertj

I would wish to thank everyone who participated in the terrier & lurcher events at Ballywalter and especially Matt Lee Snr & Jnr and the rest of the Lee Clan for running the event when the rest of the Mid Antrim team including Chairman , Seamus Erwin were ill or unavailable. I would also like to thank the various people who telephoned and emailed to offer Matt and the show their support in getting over a few last minute hiccups. A big thank you to our judges Billy Copeland and Walter White for a good job going over great entries. As you can see from my photos of the T&

Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair 30April/1st May

Thanks for your input. We have never claimed Ballywalter is Ireland's premier Game Fair - The Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle is. As you are well aware we took over Ballywalter last year at very short notice ( two months) when BASC cancelled their fair. It was a huge success and this year will be even better. The Terrier and Lurcher events have a central place in the fair with their own superb race track, showing area and car parking. Unlike other events which appear to wish to be ashamed of the Terrier & Lurcher events and keep them outside the fair - we believe that they should be -

Hessy, Since you have not taken up my suggestion of 'phoning Matt to offer him support or ask who the judges are I am happy to inform you that he has two judges who I know personally and have my full confidence. Walter White for Terriers and Billy Copeland for lurchers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those genuine terrier & lurcher enthusoiasts who have sent their best wishes and offered to judge if we needed them. Hope to see you all at Ballywalter and I am quite confident the Terrier & Lurcher Show will be as great a success as the rest of the superb s -
