Lee, Your one suggestion was FREE entry. I have indicated this is totally impractical. I indicated what we actually do in terms of admission concessions AND THOSE SPECIALLY FOR TERRIER & LURCHER OWNERS. And challenged you to name any other Game Fair organiser that gives greater concessions for people ACTUALLY ENTERING THE FAIR. We believe in having our competitions INSIDE the fair and in a good location rather than hidden away. You have mentioned two that may have in the past had a concession BEFORE you entered the fair. My challenge remains unanswered. Albertj -

Lee, You have now come up with one suggestion that I will address ( briefly!!!). It is totally impractical for anyone to organise shows and give free admission. Where would it end? If there was no gate there would be no show. What we do is make valuable concessions to sportmen in general: 1. A Free ticket with a year's subscription to Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine: Thats a year's magazine posted to you and a free ticket for £15. Or 2. If you purchase a ticket at Ballywalter ( £10) you get a free ticket for Shanes Castle. Meaning admission for each sh -

LF, If we can get enough interest in this we will certainly consider a competition or a main arena display. We are always willing to do look at anything that promotes working dogs. -

Tom, WELL SAID. The Five Nations Terrier Championship was a fantastic idea which I was very happy to adopt and work with you on. You gave 100% commitment to its delivery and I know that you put money, time and effort into helping deliver a very successful event which was very well received by the crowd at Birr. Some very smart dogs were paraded at Birr and while everyone can be a 'ringside' judge there was a worthy winner. AlbertJ -

The decision on who qualifies is down to the organisers of the qualifying events. However this is a decision that has to be made at every show where there is racing so its nothing new. -

It would appear we could argue all night but you raise one useful point : What do LURCHER people really want? THATS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE ASKING THEM AND LISTENING TO THEIR ANSWERS You have raised the question but not given any suggestions. Let's test out your suggestions - certainly the footfall at our competitions appears to prove we are attracting a lot of them to our shows against a very few negatives. But I am interested to hear your suggestions. YOUR HAPPY WITH YOUR ATTENDANCY THEN=COMPLACENCY I have to say I am amused at your very simplified view of the economics of running a fa -

Regarding the FN Lurcher Show - it is for lurchers only NOT greyhounds. Equally the racing is also for lurchers only. A lurcher can be defined in many ways but pure bred greyhounds are ineligible.Dogs will be able to qualify at shows over various distances and through heats at the final so the final winner will be well tested. -

If we are putting up a great deal of prizes and prize money and not taking any entry fees for the final - can you tell me how this could 'smack of money making'? Money brings out the worst in people I thought you would of learnt from last years fiasco with your 5 nations terrier championship(sic) you may of been happy with it BUT there was more criticism than congratulatory slaps on the back Your "putting up a great deal of prizes and prize money and not taking any entry feesfor THE FINAL" is that 5 or 6dogs? How about free entry to the show for everyone entering a dog at any of your -

Five Nations International Lurcher Championship In line with our GREAT GAME FAIRS of IRELAND objective of giving Ireland's terrier & lurcher enthusiasts the opportunity of competing with the best on Irish soil, we are following last year's Five Nations International Terrier Championship with a Five Nations International Lurcher Championship with its final at Birr Castle on Sunday 28th August 2011. This will have a prize fund in excess of €1,000 and all qualifiers will receive a donation towards their expenses. All qualifiers will also receive a year's subscription to the Irish Countrysp

The Terrier & Lurcher events at the Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair will take place on their tradition day of Sunday 1st May. Johnny Dicker has been in touch to ask since we have now added an extra day to Ballywalter could we change our dog show to the Saturday. Unfortunately, even if considered desirable this is simply not possible at this atage of our planning cycle as the Terrier & Lurcher events at our event are already part of an overall show schedule. Ballywalter is a small estate with few open areas adjacent to the main fair site and I have indicated to him

LF Without downplaying the hassle from alleged 'travellers' by some people who reported it to me after the show. it was certainly not widewpread at the show or even at the clay shooting beside the terriers & lurchers. It did NOT lead to any physical confrontations and it appears to have been about a dozen' moochers' bothering people by asking them to sell their dogs. If it had reported to us at the show it would have been dealt with promptly. However we have been organising family friendly largely trouble free events in Ireland for 32 tears and we will not tolerate anyone being ha

Hi WD, The 'alleged' referred to 'travellers'. I accept that there were a group of people who hassled a few people who have contacted me but because it was not reported to me , the garda or the security staff at the fair I don't know the extent of it or who was doing the hassling. There were no similar incidents reported or seen on the main site so it appeared fairly localised to the terrier & lurcher area. So if there are no dogs or pups for sale the problem will be more easily contained and dealt with in 2011. Personally I do not like to see pups for sale at our shows because it

There were some post fair complaints relating to Birr - including some apparently 'passed on' rather than experienced - that there was some alleged hassle from 'travellers' around the terrier & lurcher rings at Birr on the show day on Sunday but no complaints about the 'racing day' on the Saturday. Our investigations with our security staff and garda have indicated that none of this was reported to them during the fair. Although a girl did report to me that a puppy that she had purchased at the fair had been stolen. THERE WERE NO OTHER REPORTS to me, the Garda, our event organisers

Plans are well advanced to make the new Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair planned for the 30th April and the 1st May 2011 the best ever staged at Ballywalter. Stands are booking up well and in spite of the recession all the competitions have been strengthened and the prize fund is growing steadily. This year the Ballywalter Fair joins the GREAT GAME FAIRS of IRELAND brand and the gundog and clay shooting competitions become qualifiers for the All Ireland All Comers Game Fair Championship finals to be staged at Shanes Castle and the casting competitions become qualifiers for the

Sorry I have to repeat myself but its for the benefit of simple minded people such as you who appear to prefer abuse and rumour to facts and logical argument! repeating a statement 100 times does'nt make it a fact and heres a question for you Q "how many pikeys does it take to ruin a game fair"?????????????? A "just albert and his family" You really are a slow learner. I have answered the ONE person who has now given me details of how they were hassled and spoken to carraghsgem. The largest estimate of potential troublemakers stands between 12 and 30. I didn't get
