  1. There is masssive public interest from all over Ireland and the UK building up for the IRISH GAME Fair at Shanes Castle on the 25th & 26th June. Dogs Galore There will be the largest and most varied selection of dogs on display at any event in Ireland including the top lurchers, terriers and whippets; real international gundog teams from all over the UK and Holland; horse & hounds:pedigree dog show; dog agility and even dog mushing with a range of breeds from huskies to Irish Red Setters. And of course another World Dog Training Record attempt by Keith Mathews. AND the whole of t
  2. Thats it for this year. we can discuss everything after this year. We have 'stepped up to the plate' for all breeds this year and are prepared to do so in the future but lets have some harmony in the fraternity. Albertj
  3. It is for all WHIPPETS KC registered or not KC registered. This is a matter than can be looked at again in the future but if we are to further progress increasing the whippet profile at our events we can do it through calm discussion. Albertj
  4. well was it raining. You should know!!!! if it was you who was ouside!!!! What about Rory!!!!!!!! Come on Our Wee Country!!!!!! WELL DONE RORY ! Now guys I think we have hammered this topic to death. Can we all not turn up at Shanes Castle for ( weather permitting ) the best Game Fair that Ireland has ever seen with the largest display of guns ever; gun fitting and stock bending by Mike Yardley; a great Angling Village; a Real medieval and Living History village in the old castle; a continuous and action packed main arena programme; great international gundogs with a team fro
  5. The track has been mown and is in good order. The track will not be watered as plenty of rain has fallen! But with the fair almost completely built the ground is in good order. Final arrangements for the race are as follows: Proceedings will start at 1.00 on Saturday 25th June with the public draw for the Master Mc Grath heats. There will be 4 or 5 heats with the winner of each heat going through to the final. There will be three line judges. One lurcher enthusiast and two independent judges. In the event of a 'photo' finish - majority of line judges make the decision. Although th
  6. Yes, The only pre qualified event is the Master Mc Grath Lurcher Racing Final All others are entry on the day. Albert
  7. See the report on the show on FREE to READ version of Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine on www.countrysportsandcountrylife.com
  8. Great coverage of the Irish Game Fair launch in a virtual two page spread in the BELFAST Newsletter. All of the dogs well covered so any of you with your canine stars should look out for a copy. Great coverage for terrier, lurcher and gundog owners. Dan Kinney gave us good coverage in his column as did CAI Director Lyall Plant. With dogs and their owners taking centre stage there wasn't room to feature the country sports 'heavyweights' such as Philip Lawton, Lyall Plant and Des Crofton, our guest speaker from the NARGC and of course yours truly. Antrim/Ballymen Times gave us a
  9. 2 clubs i thought ther was only 1 is this another club to cause tension among the whippet people or is it 1 for the people that cant win at the other club or cant get ther own way just my thought on it totally agree longstone lad, the proper sporting whippet club is the only one as far as i know. the other is some idgit trying to start his own so that he can win all the time with his 'kc reg' whippet. why does this person not attend the sporting whippet club and offer opinions in it for a seperate papers only whippet race as well as open racing??? possibly coz they never win anything?
  10. Now that's what I call a 'working whippet'! AlbertJ
  11. I have been extremely disappointed by this thread. We have responded to all sorts of suggestions on this forum including that we do more for the increasing number of people wanting to show and race whippets in NON KC events. For those with KC whippets as you know there is a KC Open show organised by the NIGFSS on the Sunday as part of their group show. We have always supplied an alternative option for whippets 'with and without papers.' However as someone who has shown and worked dogs for many years I applaud the efforts of KC registered whippet owners to work or race dogs bred more f

  13. I agree with you on this one - it is not a KC event and certainly at this late stage we cannot put in new rules for Shanes. If anyone is really concerned about the legitimacy of a particular dog please raise it with me at Shanes and I will have a quiet word with the owner. AlbertJ

  15. Tully, Matt and I decided to try the lurchers first to see the interest and we hope some of the guys with old racing dogs will bring them out as well as some of the great old show dogs. Its funny how some dogs, like people, are 'lasters' my first golden was working at 13 and sired his first litter at 10; his son sired a lot of pups until he was 12 including when he was 10, siring my old dog who is still working at 11. 16. L330, The Stormont launch was the all Ireland launch of both fairs - we follow this up with a Press breakfast at Shanes Castle on the Friday morning before the fair and a press launch on the evening of the 27th July at Birr Castle. We have launched before at the Michael Collins Barracks and other public venues in the south but have found that the format that are using this year works best for media coverage. Albert sound Albert just if you were im only down the road from Leinsteir house so i would have been there to offer my support I hope you're coming to Shanes Castle
  17. I can't speak for Moira - but I was unaware that there was any controversy over Ballywalter. If you have concerns about the status of any dog you have the right to take it up AT THE TIME of the race with the race organisers.
  18. At the very successful press conference staged at Parliament Buildings Stormont to launch the Game Fairs at Shanes Castle and Birr Castle, leading Irish chef Emmett McCourt launched the new Irish GO FOR GAME campaign to promote the health benefits of eating game and fish. Emmett is not only a very successful and creative chef but is also passionately involved in shooting and fishing. In fact at the Ballywalter Game Fair he was only just pipped by young casting sensation Thomas Armstrong in the distance casting competitions pushing Thomas's well known casting father Sean into third pla

  20. Following a suggestion on the forum Matt and I have decided to stage a Veteran Lurcher Class at the 24th All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships to be staged at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle on the 26th June. This will be for dogs or bitches over eight years of age on the day so lets see you giving some of the famous old dogs a day out. If it is successful we will also add this to our classes for Birr. Thanks for the suggestion. AlbertJ
