D arcy, my ignorance even surprises me, I didnt realise arible farmers would have a concern over a working dog, I should of had my finger on the pulse a bit more, it's just my knowledge of ferreting is limited (like Ive said, if noone is there to show you...you never learn)and just cos I have ferrets dont mean I ll hook up with permission, I dont want this thread be violins out cos one fella cant find permission, I wanted to throw it open to see what you's lads think, and Im glad I did, as it's had a good response and no...well not much argueing Craig

Hi Jimmy 100, sorry pal, misread your post, sorry, yes it is a concern, I was on a forum rfecently saying I was concerned that my Lexy hasnt been on the back of a rabbit yet, im not panicking yet as Im only now stepping her training up, she's about 11 Months and ive just started encouraging her to jump whilst out walking, she course as a pup used to jump to get her meal, nice offer mate, I appreciate that Thankyou, Born Hunter, Ive recently just moved out of Nottinghamshire into Derbyshire bout 3 Miles, I live in a town called Ilkeston now, and there is nothing that I know in terms of regualr

Jimmy, my dog is a for life, wether my dog is shite or not, this whole debate is around the fact that I have no permission, so why would I have a dog based on it being a prelific rabbit taker, if you read my posts I ve said that my dog is firstly a pet, a companion and is loved as a pet by the whole family, does this mean that we cannot enjoy our training together, our long walks and long term our lamping sessions ? so the answer is, if Lexy turns out to be totally and utterly useless in the field, she still has a place in Lisa and my bed.

Poacher, I thought you knew me, I have always liked and admired the relationship between man and animal, wether it a horse, bird or dog, however, If you would have seen our Lexy snuggled between me and the wife this morning, there is an unbreakable bond, a loyalty and a unity between a man / woman and his / her dog, I like what I know, and if honest this is the thing which grows in me and I cant help myself, why should I who have loved working dogs since my dad took me out with our Sheba (old fashioned mooching dog, probably called a mongrel nowadays) those days of me gutting my first rabbit o

Fight the Ban, 100% with you, look please fella's lets not get into an argument at allover this debate, I was really hoping to have a grown up debate on something we all feel passionate about, so I really ask for us all to keep on the level and not make it a have permission Vs a have no permission slanging match, I deplore thieveing in anyway, but thats the problem, I do feel guilty and am not proud of the situation, but like I said, I have loved and love my dogs very much, and the very thought of my dogs working, usung instinct laid down over thousands of Years makes me shiver with excitement

Hi Fella's Killum with chrisps, Thanks for your advice, Ive just been cautious, like I say, if I cant get permission for ferriting what do I do with the ferret, but it's a great point you raise, Cooper, trust me, size doesnt matter !!! I have spoken to a local 8 hole golf course, sort of pitch and put type thing, I know that they have had there greens dug up, but because of the stigma attached to field sports, they told me that the rabbits dont cause them a problem, it's interesting to see that im not being lambasted for saying that I have jumped the fence so to speak, I thought I was in tor a

Hello Waidman, I didnt post to get asked out, and if Im honest, there is nothing I would like more than for there to be one man and my dog, I dont go for 3 or 4 fella's with there dogs walking across fields decimating the population, we have to look after the countryside, treat it with respect, so that my children and my childrens children can enjoy fields sports, while on about my children, there is nothing I would of loved more than to have taken my eldest boy (12) out for a nights lamping, as my grandad did when I was 7, but like has already been said, your forever listening out for every no

I 100% agree with you Giro, I'll be honest with you.....I am and always have been frightened to death of my beloved dog having an accident whilst out, see my Lexy is predominantly a loved pet, but she like Lora (on my addy) is my hunting companion, and the thought that Im in the middle of a field, not knowing which way to turn with a injured dog, fills me with dred, thats why over the last 2 Years I have been persueing my own bit of "paradise", I really think that there is a massive devide between the landrover driving, shotgun weilding (nothing wrong with shooting) farmer and little old me an

Born Hunter, it'snot the done thing round here mate, honestly, If I was a lil closer to to Derbyshire, Chatsworth etc, I would have been asking to beat alomng time ago, re ferrets, Ive asked, I nearly bought a job lot of ferriting gear, but what comes first...the ferret or the permission ??? no permission means I dont need a ferret, so therefore, I'd be doing what I hate other people doing, buying an animal which isnt needed, Im not the most eloquent of people,I hope Im not coming across as a squealing mardy git, bit to say I feel aggrieved is an understatement, Thanks for your advice tho

While in my work clothes I knocked on a farm house door, a very dear friend of mine and my late dad's over a glass of bushmills told me that he knew the farm hand at a relavely local farm, he said that there would be a chance albeit slight of getting a bit of lamping (3 fields) I was telling him my plight over a glass of Bushmills, so I went to see if there was any chance, stomach in mouth (I hate asking, tbh I dont really enjoy approaching the door I feel like Im encroaching)well I was amazed by this mans attitude, I went through a pre rehearsed verse and said I would be prepared to help out

Hello lads, it just frustrates me, something was said to me today and I cant seem to shake it, the thing which really gets me, I honestly dont like doing it, after all I tell my children to be have and try and instil into them what's right and wrong, yet there I am, ya know....doing wrong, but there is so many fields just standing there, does it really matter ???

You didnt Penine but Big Hunter 12 did, glad to hear it mate, to many time our trusty companions who give us everthing dont get a fair deal imo Craig

Hi all, hope that your all well, Right im going to have a moan about permission, time after time ive been sneered at when I ve mentioned that in 20 Years of working dogs Ive only had permission for 2 Years (golf course) before I get hung, I have tried everything, from phone calls to letters, e-mails to knocking on doors, but when you hear "look lad we have had 3 generations of the same family working our land", what chance have I got !!! so what we saying, no permission = hang up my dog lead ? I have it in my blood, my father my fathers father, but alas that was in the day, when a fella walk

Hi all, hope that your all well, Right Sexy Lexy is doing well, however Im still doing lots of work with a dummy ( no not the wife) stuffed rabbit skin, she'll locate it and bring it towards me but then just as she's about to stop and offer it me, off she goes, tail wagging and du know somatt, im sure she was sticking 2 fingers up at me, my dilemma,if I whistle her, she'll stop straight away and return to me minus the dummy, when I wait and she eventually comes back, I cant give her ass a slap as then surely it seems im slapping her for doing as she's told (albeit eventually)your advive would

I think some people need to wake up and smell the coffee, puppy peddlers, I went to see if I wanted a Hancock dog, We were invited and had a good look round, yes there are alot of dogs, and no I dont agree with keeping these animals just to keep knocking litters out, but this happening on a smaller scale all over the country with all breeds of dog everyday, when I went the dogs were kept in clean kennels, well fed,and looked in good overall health, they are inspected on a regular basis and I am 100% sure that the Hancocks have the dogs best interest at heart, after all if your selling tomatoes

My Lexie is just approaching her first birthday, not worked yet but she's been a dream to train, very steady healthy bitch, which wants to make me happy........which she does, go for it mate, all comes down to what you do with it, to many spoilt dogs by peeps buying a 8 Wk old pup and think it'll look down the beam, catch and return live to hand over 5 bar gates through a field we sheep in it, little do some people know that what ever x you get, it takes patience and time !!! good luck which ever way you decide to go, piccys of pups are always appreciated
