As skinner quotes,most racing greyhouds go back to orfords stuff,if you out cross a saliuki to a greyhound,has it got greyhound in it? All breeds are results of crossing at some point and an outcross is considered "pure" by the KC after five generations. Deerhounds were "outcrossed" with the kc,s blessing back to greyhounds,there.s even a Afgan in the greyhound stud book! If Orfords dogs were bred from then greyhounds have bull blood in em....period

Have you got a link on google or somewhere for this bit of information miles or baz? Ive looked right through google and the encyclopedia and i cant find any information to back this up It would be interesting to see The original argument was that greyhounds have bull in them not outcrosses like miles says. Lord Orford outcrossed his coursing greyhouds to bull to give them more courage,heart ,grit "gameness" ,call it what you will. Apparently the first few generations were a little to "heavy" to win these compertitions,but,a little further down the line he bred a famous dog.(bitch?) Someone on here with more knowledge than me,and A LOT MORE knowledge than you will know what it was called. Something like "casandra" or something? Yes,Kizzy was his Dam and ringsfield pharo his sire,others out of this,and subsiquent matings of this pair are' Lennon,s "Star" Alan Booths "Fred" Willy toughs "sonny" Joe Hansons "criuse". All the salukis in the N.E and most futher afield that are worked are from these lines,with a infusion of smooth desert bred stuff that was up there for a while.Funnily enough he,s pictured in this thread

In quite a few of the country's salukis come from they are bred for harder stuff ( that fights back)other than hare. Its all in the breeding and the lines, most salukis over here are bred from show type salukis, its a bit like breeding of a show staff and saying most of the pups arent any good. Good point Mush and i know exactly how those dogs are bred

7/7 in early nov with pure saluki at goole,perfect going and some big levies,mind you the guy i was matching only stopped one Dave Smiths "Gazza" killed 11 in january in front of alot of well know coursing men

There,s different strain,s of salukis with different trait,s. I would say a "good" saluki is nigh on impossible to get hold of cos most of them are so infused with show rubbish they,re going the way of the afgan and the show deerhound,greyhound etc There are still one or two "proper" saluki,s about though if you know the right people A tale will illistrate the point.........i got a k.c reg bitch "bell" at about 2yrs old,the bloke who had her was a pr!"£K and she showed all the "steriotypical" saluki traits ie scared of her own shaddow! Funny that.......have you ever considered that there are some people who would never go in for those sort of competitions? The just work their dogs alone or with a couple of friends. It makes me laugh that so many people these days think that unnless a dog has won a competition it's no good> believe me, there are dogs out there today who could hold their own and then some with any of these competition dogs. not considered it......no I know it the best dog i ever saw was never matched or entered any comp,s BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ive never seen or herd of any norfolk,collie or ay other

Just needed it clarified The best saluki bred dogs did/do it regular One even had a bit of DEERHOUND in its breeding (sniper) BUT,,,,,,,,, you cant hold that against him His sire was a full saluki!!!!
