Thing is now though, with this new snaring legislation, in Scotland..that wouldn't be allowed, anymore ! ??,...you CANNOT set a snare (on any good run) running under or through a fence line, now ????, indeed, you can't hang one ANYWHERE where there's even the slightest risk of entanglement, etc , to the target animal -

I wouldn't try & snare any type of hare here, often,..just occasional,...but I do remember the keeper actually got my mate a bit of paid work for hares once (at least 20 year ago now,....), he was a ferret , & dog man,..& the landowner sold this ground to the regional park, to be planted up with trees , & public access, etc Anyway, they were obviously too tight for proper fencing,..& I remember he was to snare the whole boundary, cause when the saplings got planted, the hares where going in & nipping them off, etc (no guards on them, & a can't actually remember if t -

a watched them first mate,...seen where they were entering/exit , the field , etc,.....thats why I was successful, I think (cause I was new too it, I never believed I would catch anything !, same with the rabbits I managed to catch ! ) ?, but with the right snares, tealers, etc, & wee bit of field craft,.....well it was the Woodga/Waters gear too ! ,....& instruction from the book ? ,...lol,....my old man's neighbour asked me if I could get him one or two, for the pot, so a thought I would try,.....he made a great hare stew,..very tender the meat was too, he managed,...I thought it wo -

a managed to snare one or two (only) brown hares ( in season) here, too (one snare set , at appropriate height, etc, each time,..hare in them early next morning),...for the pot,......i was told off a couple of old countrymen/poachers, local, "hares are easier to snare than rabbits " ?,........i discovered they were right ! -

Micky, what would carry away my fenn mk 6 ? (other than a two legged fox) I was learning, couple of years ago, with these, & pretty sure NOW, probably ,..? I didn't have it pegged securely enough,.....was one before this , same embankment , another hole,.....GONE the next day ?,...so I obviously secured the above better, shortly after ! ? -
Interesting , thanks.

When the paper work comes through, from the course, etc, you run down to the local police, & register, etc & pay them a £20 fee,.......they didn't have a clue, about it (even though theres wildlife liason, I think)...anyway, the old poacher , runs down like a shot,..? (I held back a couple of month),...& gets it all organised. I laughed now, how I was keeping him going, saying , "that's it, they know who you are now,....any of these daft 'c...s' , snare someone's cat, badger, dog, lamb, etc,......they will come to you first, see if you know anything about it !! " ????,....he was

earth-thrower replied to earth-thrower's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Took a notion,...got six of these still new, gathering dust, for a long, long time,....acquired off the top 'putange man' or somebody aquainted, on here,......good traps obviously, anyhow,.....(here , definitely stronger than the standard version, which are also good, I remember) -

Fancy that,....me setting this 'single' (know the run times, here,...not foolproof, of course) ultimate stainless, French job ! ,....... -
Believe it or not, I had too attend a 'snaring course', here,...legally, before you can use them (wtf is that all about ???) ,....took an old 'poacher' along with me ? (he was more keen than I was ,...& got me to book it !),...thought he was gonna learn , some modern tricks,...& see the latest snare designs, set up, out in the field etc,.....& so did I,.......but NO , stuck in a f***ing barn , for 4 hrs, we were (along with a load of keepers, old & young, on 'refresher' courses,.....had too listen , & sit a f.....g written test !!, at the end...36 or something questions, (

Well , ave had the pleasure on the phone with him, at least a couple of times,...& aye, I kinda felt a bit overawed, I must say ?,....no wonder but,.. im a rank amateur/ novice, when it comes to rabbits/snaring ? ....(still can't believe I managed to snare around fifteen , on various occasions, out in the open field ! (usually just practise with two snares, etc),....all thanks to his excellent book , on the subject ? ,...but old reynard, got some of them from my snares, before me , unfortunately ? (did manage to salvage , & neck one , when a buzzard was just about at it, one morning),.

"badger tongs",...........the poor old beleaguered brock, is in real danger of becoming as rare , as them implements, in large parts of England now, I fear !!,........I still can't get over it, really,....its the scale of the slaughter, that bothers me. They aren't convincing me, & alot of others, it seems, anyway, their justification, for it. Don't get me wrong, they have been overprotected somewhat, possibly, too.....& just look how its all backfired now ? ?
