    "as for pest stops they are a damn good trap" ,....& as far as am aware,..'Pest Stop' is STILL a slightly modified version of the Duffus/ half barrel, trap,......& would you know who's responsible for these improvements ? ?

    Went a wee trip recently, see if we could gather some mussels, for the pot. Lucky, for us, the spot my old man's neighbour, had been 5 years, previous, was still 'holding' ?,.....haven't done this for about 35 year, myself,.....so here's a few photos of my 'pops' & his neighbour, i took, on the day,....

    Sorry, I replied there, before you,....aye mate, really good, your friend really has introduced his own 'tweaks' & further refined the design. Clever chappy ! ?,...hey, a need to get someone to fit these springs on some new wooden ones, I got made, & finish them off a wee bit,...then I will dish a few out, & your welcome to one ?

    About 70mm mate,..shell now 13 to 15mm, that ones that's split there, a prototype, was probably only 10mm

    Cause as ave said, think fixing spring along hole line contributes to this happening, eventually ?

    Here's the way spring is normally fitted on wood barrel,...& photo below that is one where spring fitted down the barrel a bit,...off that hole line

    Here you are, mate. It was a fyfe pesty who kindly sent me these. (long time ago). If I remember right , it was definitely that "Tony P" & co, trap design. He knew him, etc. Now , this fyfe guy might have made them himself, cause (as Phil says) full plans to make them, were in the booklet. So this version of a wood half barrel, mole traps, got to be from late 1980s/ 1990, at least, I think.

    Be a pain,..if it was very often like that , Clive ? Iol,...but its a good question. I've, found you can set them at depth, but you have to take alot of extra turf out, to accommodate the set spring,...& granted if times an issue, (which it is obviously, doing it commercially) then a modern trap is going to be preferable,........its just nostalgia for the past,...with me ??,..nothing more,..i wouldn't claim they are better, or anything.

    Not me, ma friend,...a don't know much,..but just got a wee bit of enthusiasm, for whatever 'floats ones boat' lol ,...regards trapping, etc,...like alot of others (Not least your good self !)

    So there's an example,...in the 'flesh' then ,....great stuff ! & all them traps were available together, too ?,...a will also dig out a couple of more modern versions of the wood half barrel,...& i think it was the said Gentlemen (from above post) design,....whether it was made by their hands, or purchaser of said pamphlet of theirs, i will never quite know !

    On the subject, Phil, Would you recall, oh,...got to be 30 year ago, now,....it would have been the 'Shooting News' (at the time),..an article (maybe 1990 ?),...& it was i think two Welsh fellas,..trapping moles, & they made their own wooden half barrel ?,....that helped to 'spark my interest' initially,......then I finally got round too trying to catch them , couple or so , year after.
