  1. For the record I think that speech is fake because if you look at the speech made by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2008, its almost word for word. http://dancingredfea...AKE-IT-OR-LEAVE In Fact it was also Claimed that John Howard had made the same speech. Have a look at this link, its all based around fact but a lot of it is rubbish! http://www.hoax-slayer.com/howard-muslim-speech.shtml
  2. Hi Sam. Join this forum and have a look at this thread mate it will tell you everything you need to know. http://falconryforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=58771
  3. i zero at 12yrds and double check at 75yrds as the zero point is roughly the same this means the round is only ever a max 1 1/2 inch out over that entire distance so up to 75yrds its a case of point and shoot not having to worry about hold over ect. I just ran that through a ballistics calculator for the CCI HP Sub, it would put me 3.05" high at 75yds. if on the other hand I Zeroed at 75yds the maximum I would be high is at 45yds with a figure of 1.33". However at 15yds I would be low by 0.18". So what you said is correct but according to my calculator, only if it was zeroed at 75yds wh
  4. Hi guys, I was just wondering what range you all zero your .22s and for what reasons? I've recently zeroed mine at 100yds with CCI HP subs and I can get some decent groupings, but I was out tonight on a new farm and found a number of Bunnies in a section of field about 70yds from a nice gate to rest on. So I'm now thinking of re-zeroing to 70yds because I'll be visiting this farm quiet a lot! Would you re-zero or just adjust your aim? curious on other peoples thoughts?
  5. Looks like I had a bargain then because my Ruger 22/10 came with a Redfield 3-9x50 plus a Parker Hale mod, sling and slip and I only paid £250.00 for the lot from a dealer! :D
  6. This is part of the problem there is no national standard, each Police Force can effectively make up their own rules.
  7. Apparently they don't like issuing any Center Fire Rifle to first time applicants, however if they can't find a reasonable cause to refuse then they ask you to provide details of a person who has an Open Ticket with a rifle of the same caliber who can supervise you for a set number of outings on your land, after which time you can apply to have the supervision order removed. In my case I was able to prove to them that I had vast experience with a wide range of calibers between .17 and 120mm. In their opinion someone who has been trained in the safe use of Firearms is going to be far safer th
  8. Here in South Wales we have a restriction whereby we can only shoot fox with a minimum of .223, so its worth taking that into account as he may have a restriction on his ticket stating what he can shoot with each caliber.
  9. If you join the Countryside Alliance right now and use the code promotion 12SUK you will get 50% off, so it only costs £30.00 for a full year!
  10. South Wales Police took a respectable 12 weeks to issue my First FAC for .17, .22 & .223. In fact I phoned them just before Christmas to see how long it would be and they said it had been authorised but was awaiting issuing, and it was likely it would be in the new year. I said it was pity because I had a few things on my xmas list that I was hoping for. Incredibly I had a call back of them a few hours later telling me I could pick it up that day from Bridgend so that Santa could sort out my xmas list!! I was extremely happy and it made my xmas! The process was extremely smooth, the FEO ca
  11. Thats the biggest downfall with a .22 as anyone who's experienced a ricochet will testify! It just doesn't have enough power to disintegrate the round. This is why many opt for a .17 hmr and of course the trajectory of a .17 makes it easier to hit targets at varying ranges without too much brain power!
  12. With a decent scope, a range finder an anemometer and a simple ballistics computer (phone app) its not that difficult to hit targets out to 600m with a .22 on a fairly calm day. I'm not suggesting you attempt live quarry at that range but the truth is if you hit a bunny in the head at 800m you would kill it. But if you've got the land then there's a lot of fun to be had with a few mates taking on targets at up to 500m. Remember a .22 will carry for about 1.5 miles, so in theory you could hit a target out to that sort of distance!
  13. I used these last year, great price and free delivery. http://www.4x4tyres.co.uk/?gclid=COHmurulua0CFUJItAodBzEqnA Obviously useless if you ain't got a 4x4!
  14. I watched that vid the other day was impressed with the penetration they got. A lot of people completely underestimate how powerfull a .22Lr really is. If you think of it in terms of airguns which have a legal limit of 12ftlbs. and then think about a CCI Sub HP with a muzzle velocity of 1050 ft/sec. That round is still pushing 72ft-lbs at 100yds. I recently sighted in my Ruger 10/22 at 100yds and was using a piece of 8x2 timber with a target pinned onto it. I was very surprised at the result.
  15. Generally most Police forces don't like issuing a centrefire rifle of any caliber on a First Certificate. If you want a .243 my advice would be to ring them and ask them what they recommend, rather than apply and get turned down. In theory if you can demonstrate a need they cannot turn you down...However in reality it doesn't work like that. Prior to completing my application I rang the FEO and explained to him I wanted .243 for deer and .223 for fox, so should I just apply for a .243. He told me that in order to even consider an application for a .243 on a first ticket they would want to see
  16. fine grade wirewool and Meths is the method used to remove varnishes and finishes on antique furniture, I have restored a number of air rifle stocks over the years using this method. Just don't rush it, and if you use a Palm Oil build up layers slowly over a few days or so.
  17. I did a few daft things when I was about 14 -15 one of them was classed as a Firearms offence....Discharging an air pistol in a public place! in the 70s everyone had air rifles and we all shot them on the waste ground or down the park. That shouldn't necessarily rule people out in the future, I'm a totally different person now and have undergone many years of military training in the use of Firearms. As has been said what is needed is a common sense approach. Sadly common sense approaches will no doubt cost a lot more than the £50.00 it currently costs to obtain an FAC.
  18. The laws relating to Firearms in this country are archaic. just about anyone with a fairly good police record can obtain a rifle based on a 5 minute interview with a "rushed of his feet" FEO. Lets face it you need a days training to use a power tool in most companies these days yet almost anyone can obtain a firearm. I think the time will come when all applicants will need to complete a minimum of a 3 day safety and assessment course, so that a person can be better judged and their general attitude towards guns can be assessed. Probably some sort of Physiological profiling along with Annual me
  19. Have a look here, or just google Trigon optics. http://www.lgasupplies.com/trigon-38-c.asp
  20. you dont need to fill the paperwork in as lent send it recorded delivery and your out with the gun Of course. Sorry what am I thinking about...lol Don't know why I was thinking about variations That makes perfect sense, and my mate can have his beauty sleep!!
  21. Cheers guys. I suspected the rules were different I'll have to drag my mate along on one of his nights off then, can't be waiting 3 weeks for a variation....
  22. I know that as a SC Holder I can borrow a Shotgun off a friend for upto 72 Hours without notifying the authorities. But can I borrow a Rifle? What I mean is, I'm an FAC holder and have .223 on my ticket, (but don't currently own one!) a friend is selling a .223 and I've been asked by a farmer to sort out a fox problem on land that has been passed for .223. So Can I borrow the rifle and try before I buy so to speak, or must I be accompanied by my friend who owns the gun, who unfortunately works night a lot of the time? Thanks in advance.
  23. My FAC states. .17 buy 400 possess 600 .22 buy 400 possess 600 .223 buy 100 possess 180
  24. Your incredibly lucky to get a .223 on your first FAC ticket down here mate usually 17 hmr and .22lr unless you live on a farm Initially they asked if i could provide details of a mentor with an open ticket on .223, I told them I could but they rang back and said if I could provide details of my military service it would save them having to put the supervision condition on my ticket. The FEO came out and copied some details from my little red book (service record) then listed all the guns I'd used whilst in the army, they ranged from 120mm (I was in a tank regiment) down to .22. As a re
  25. I ended up buying a nice little Ruger 10/22 with synthetic Stock, Parker hale Moderator, and 3-9 x 50 Scope.plus a Bipod, slip and 200 rounds of CCI Subsonic. Nothing special and I'm led to believe not great out to 100yds but it was only £250.00 all in so came in on budget.
