Football as old'uns like me knew it is being sanitised out of existence. I remember when the shoulder charge was a legitimate part of the game, now you'd be red carded for it. The old style English centre forward no longer exists, Shearer was probably the last one, Carrol could have been one, but injuries and teams style of play mean he never will be. Characters like Vinny, Gazza, etc no longer exist, Joey Barton was probably the last character in the game. Managers are now simply tacticians, Cloughie was the last of his kind, Mourino is a sanitised version. It's hard to work up any excitement

As I said on another thread, I can't understand why people pay £40/60 to watch the dross served up by my local EPL teams, but people do. There's a report that only Real Madrid and Barcelona , and five other EPL teams, that will make more money than Newcastle United, due to this new TV deal. Yet Newcastles stated aim is only to survive in the Premier...no cups, no Europe, simply survival to keep getting the TV riches. Max, I couldn't give a shit about Newcastle or Sunderland. I just enjoy correcting your inaccurate posts ! You mention Newcastle "only" having 47700 crowd on Sunday against Stoke, as if it was a catastrophe or crisis. What you don't mention is it was the biggest attendance in England that week end; bigger than the Scouse Derby, bigger than the London derby, bigger than the games involving Man U, Man City, Chelsea, etc. I'd guess just about most clubs, including Sunderland, would dream of such support. I understand rivalry, but Max seems obsessed ! He goes on more about Newcastle than he does Sunderland ! For the life of me I can't understand why people pay, what, £40/60 to watch the dross served up these days at St James and SoL, let alone get excited by what's happening a rival club. I was at the last Derby game, and to be honest, I didn't see any hatred. Rivalry, yes, but hatred no. I posted before about having a drink with Sunderland supporters after the game, in Newcastle. Something that would have been unheard of years back.

How was it a bite Max? I've been consistent in my disapproval of Ashley's ownership and running of Newcastle United. You are the only one on here who is obsessed with Newcastle. Who cares about Newcastle, apart from you ? I'm suprised anyone spends money going to see a team with absolutely no ambition, a team that sells its manager and best players, an owner who doesn't want to win cups and only objective is staying in the premiership. As I've said many times, NUFC is simply a cash cow for Ashley.

What for Take That concerts Handy little point today Defoe is such a natural goalscorer he,ll fit in quickly which is what you want at this stage of the season. You're right, Gnash. The Stadium of light has never sold out for a football match. They got 48,300 once, but that's not a capacity crowd. They DID, however get 60,000 for a Take That concert.

Max, all joking aside; I read the EC online most days, and this day there seemed to be a lot of comments on something that was going on at NUFC. I started reading them, and then came across one by "BEEFY1992", I was intrigued as the comments were almost verbatim what you had been saying the same day on here. I had never in my life heard of beefy, 92ers, KEEGANITES, etc, and here they were on two different sites the same day. Beefy ended his post with 100,000 locked out, and they divant understand us ya knah, and the jaw dee nation.......exactly the terms you used on here.....coincidence ? Who

There were the 13 th richest club in the world with a debt ratio of 40%. To "go to the wall", as you say, would entail a debt ratio of over 100%. Ashley took over the debt, so all interest would be owed to him, NOT the banks. He is currently doing the same at Rangers, turning it into his personal cash cow.
